Any predictions/speculation?
I'm guessing...it has Tim Drake as Robin #3 / Barbara's love interest, he gets mind-raped by Poison Ivy and made to fight Barbara.

Why Tim Drake?

This is a DCEU movie so Gotham is going to crumble. This is a Joss Whedon movie so she'll be a badass fighter and say pop cultural quips while it happens. Can't really think of what could actually happen. Only by how the DCEU has been going and what Joss Whedon does in his movies/shows (especially with female leads).
I think DC might push Damion instead of Tim. Age him like in Injustice 2.

Suicide Squad showed that one Robin has already died and Bruce keeps his suit in the Batcave - which is what he does with Jason Todd (Robin #2)'s suit in the comics, though the DCEU hasn't specified if it's Robin #1 or #2. If it's Jason's then that would mean Dick Grayson is already Nightwing. Well, I guess there was no hint in BvS or SS that Bruce currently has a Robin at all... unless I forgot/missed something. And I know from playing the Arkham series - and looking shit up on wiki - that Barbara and Tim get married at some point in the comics. Of course this is all assuming Joss doesn't stray far from what happens in the comics...I've only read a few Batman stories, by no means an expert. Anyway, it was just one guess. Could end with Joker knocking on the Gordons' door and paralyzing Barbara, which would lead into The Killing Joke (and Barbara becoming Oracle) ...but they just did an animated film for that so I don't really see it happening. Then again, Joss can be a sick bastard so maybe.

If you want to know what the ‘Batgirl’ movie is going to be about read the Post Oracle Batgirl New 52 series by Gail Simone. It has already been confirmed the movie is being based on it and Gail has even spoken out about it on her Twitter account and is very happy. Gail Simone’s series features an older, wiser and more experienced Barbara Gordon in her late 20s taking on the role of ‘Batgirl’ again after spending years in a wheelchair due to the events of ‘the Killing Joke.’ Barbara not only comes back as a far more experienced fighter who can take down up to four villains by herself at the same time and is said to be second only in fighting skills to Batman but she comes back darker and more aggressive and is a real bad ass in the series.
It has Knightfall as the main villain along with her psychotic brother, James Gordon Jr, Bonebreaker, Shauna Belzer (The Ventriloquist), Mirror, the Joker and Strix (who turns of the Court of Owls and joins the Birds of Prey) among others. Black Canary, Batwoman, the Huntress, Nightwing, Catwoman and Katana all appear in it and Black Canary and Batwoman have been rumoured to debut in the movie. I think Black Canary will definitely be in it as the series connects onto the 'Birds of Prey New 52 Series' and there are rumours of a Birds of Prey movie which I think will go through if Batgirl is successful.
The Batgirl series is dark, gritty and violent and has Batgirl haunted by visions of the Killing Joke and ending up in a wheelchair again after being cured and Batgirl comes face to face with the Joker and beats the crap out of him and nearly does the one thing that Batman was never able to do until her brother stops her. Her main love interest in it was Ricky Gutierrez who is a former gang member that Batgirl saves from Knightfall’s group of twisted vigilantes, the Disgraced and he sets out on a path to be good and eventually becomes somewhat of a hero himself and her best friend and roommate is Alysia Yeoh who has a reputation for being one of the most transgender characters in comics. Gail is pushing for Joss to keep the character transgender since she plays a big part in the series and gets kidnapped and tortured by Jim Gordon Jr at one point.
I think it is awesome Joss Whedon is basing it on Gail Simone's 'cause it is one of my favourite comic book series of all time and Buffy was one of my favourite TV shows of all time and I could be mistaken but I believe this will also be the first movie ever based on a comic book series by a female writer.

She'll probably fight either Catwoman or Poison Ivy. She might experience a crisis of confidence that requires a pep talk with her father Jim Gordon. Batfleck will probably appear.

Yes 'cause having LGBT characters like Alysia who is a major character in this series and Batwoman when there are around a hundred comic book series with LGBT leading characters but not a single one in movies is really trying hard... if anything we should be getting a solo Batwoman movie too so DC can say they have had the first superhero movie with a LGBT lead but it looks like that honour is going to Painkiller Jane since Jessica Chastain has said she won't 'straightwash' the character like the TV show did.

Man, times sure were different when this thread was made. There was no COVID, Star Wars was still the big thing in pop culture, 20th Century Fox was still around, Justice League hadn’t even been released, and Joss Whedon still seemingly had a career.

Star Wars definitely began taking a backseat to Marvel starting from 2018.
