Just a decade or so ago, the most well known Marvel characters were Spiderman and Wolverine, with maybe Hulk coming in at a distant third. I'm not talking about comics, more on other media like cartoons, TV shows, movies and just general knowledge. Fast forward to today and the most popular Marvel characters (to the general audience anyway) is Ironman and Captain American. Heck even Thor is getting more appreciation than Spiderman nowadays.
Which brings me to my point: DC has always been spearheaded by Superman and Batman. Unfortunately, Superman has been slowly getting dated for the last few years and the attempts at making him edgy in the new movies seem to have alienated fans even more. Batman is still good but DC keeps reusing him and it's starting to get tiring.
In comes the new Wonder Woman movie which looks like it's going to be the best DCEU movie to date. Then basing from the new JLA trailer, it seems Aquaman is going to steal the show.
So if Wonder Woman and Aquaman end up hitting a home run in their movies, is it possible that they will replace Superman and Batman as the main poster boys (girl?) for DC the same way Ironman and Captain America superseded Wolverine and Spiderman?

They didn't hit rock bottom this badly last time. Sure, The Quest for Peace and Batman and Robin sucked, but at least they still ACTED like Superman and Batman in those movies. These chumps we're supposed to be believe are the Big Blue Boy Scout and the World's Greatest Detective can never be salvaged. |

Oh give me a break. BVS wasn't the first time they hit rock bottom. They didn't hit rock bottom this badly last time. Sure, The Quest for Peace and Batman and Robin sucked, but at least they still ACTED like Superman and Batman in those movies. These chumps we're supposed to be believe are the Big Blue Boy Scout and the World's Greatest Detective can never be salvaged.  I actually just decided to place EatTheEloi on ignore now but at least he's without pretense. |

They'll just interfere when they get cold feet again. Besides which, Snyder is still serving as Executive Produces on EVERYTHING, meaning he'll have his mitts into other peoples' hard work. |

It just demonstrates how desperate the pathetic MCU fans are to try to derail the DCEU because they're scared that the DCEU will dominate the CBM genre for the next decade. Despite their claims that Batman and Superman are both beyond rescuing, BvS still had a better box office than 75% of MCU's movies and the DCEU's first 3 movies have reached $2 billion, a mark that took MCU 5 movies to reach. So the simple undeniable fact is that the DCEU is already ahead of MCU's pace after 3 movies and on target to surpass MCU. MCU had their run while the DCEU was being planned, but now that the DCEU is moving forward, the DCEU will become the dominant brand in the CBM genre and that scares the hell out of MCU fans and that's why they keep trying to derail the DCEU. |

I personally don't see that, could be wrong, but I think if anything they'll always default back to batman over anyone else. |

Yes, they might, but only as long as the current bubble lasts.
While the industry bombards the market with several superhero movies a year, it is only natural that superhero fatigue regarding the top dog standard-bearers such as Supes, Bats, and Spidey sets in first. Thus, people will in time get more interested in the second and third row heroes, such as WW, Aquaman (lol!), Cap America, Ironman etc, because they are fresh(er) than, say, Supes who went through countless shows, movies and GN during the last decades.
When the genre output turns to normal or deflates, the standard heroes will be paramount again.
Btw I really doubt that Ironman and Captain America superseded Wolverine and Spiderman, even currently. People just are tired to see the same formula movies they saw for the last decades, so that is replaced with other formula movies showing different characters.
