Good "Pulp Fiction" Style Movie
It's not great, but good. Everything about this movie is good --- plot, dialogue, acting, music --- except the action. The action is choreographed well. But the women didn't have enough power or gravitas to pull it off convincingly most of the time. (Scarlett Johansson - Black Widow/The Avengers - is one of the few female actors that consistently pull off fighting scenes convincingly.) Most of the time the actresses just seem to be dancing through the fight scenes, just touching male actors, and they go flying. Although Leana Headey's fight scenes usually looked good in this movie.
I don't understand most of the bad ratings on the old IMDb. These reviewers just seem sexist. Most male action movies have no story, stupid dialogue and bad acting. Just an excuse for action and violence.
In my opinion, this movie is clearly better than garbage like John Wick (Keanu Reeves) and Wrath of Man (Jason Statham). Those movies are just a showcase for a bunch of nonsensical violence.
7/10

I watched half of it before my kid interrupted me. Will continue tonight then I'll leave a proper comment.
But for now I just wanted to mention that I disagree with Scarjo being able to pull off fight scenes well. She's not as awkward as some other female actors doing fight scenes (Zoe Saldana, Connie Nielsen, Tessa Thompson, Margot Robbie, Karen Gillan, etc.) but she still moves a bit too soft and lethargic to be believable.
Among recent superhero actresses who haven't had a significant amount of martial arts training, the only ones I've seen who can pull off proper fight scenes are Antje Traue, Gal Gadot and Jessica Biel.

But Johansson has a large body of work where, from what I've seen, consistently does a convincing job. Leena Headey does a good job with her fight scenes in this movie.

Guess we'll just have to disagree on Scarjo then. When it's her stuntdouble doing the work then it's obviously good. But when she's the one doing the fight scenes I can easily tell by how soft and flimsy the movements become. Some of the others I mentioned (Antje Traue in particular) manage a more seamless transition between stunt double and actress in terms of movement. That said, Scarjo is better than most, and I do have to give props for the fact that her fighting style is not the easiest to learn. She's at least way better than Karen Gillan. From what I've seen so far of Gunpowder Milkshake, I have to agree that the fight scenes with the women are pretty bad. They just can't sell it properly. Haven't seen Lena Headey's fight scenes though.

Women are generally awful when they perform action scenes.
The only time a woman convincingly pulled off action scenes was Uma Thurman in the Kill Bill films. That's how it's supposed to be done.

And her fight scenes were often unconvincing.

To be fair, the fight scenes in Kill Bill were slower-paced and highly stylized. Easier to pull-off than the frenetic, fast-paced hard-hitting style of today's action scenes. Surprisingly, Agents of SHIELD have some pretty decent female action scenes.

She's a complete badass in these films.

I watched "Gunpowder Milkshake" last night and in my humble opinion as long as you don't take it seriously, it can be quite enjoyable. If you think too much about it, or if you go in expecting realism, you'll be disappointed.

I agree. It's "pulp fiction". Which is basically a dark, violent fantasy. It's not supposed to be realistic. But people do watch pulp fiction for the graphic violence. And it was graphic here. But good action movies have convincing action. And more often than not, women are not convincing. I can ignore little women throwing around big guys. But good action actors have impact. Not just to the person getting hit. But to the person doing the hitting. And that is where most actresses fail. They just "dance" through the moves, touch guys softly, and the guys go flying. Looks fake.

With a few exceptions, I don't like women in action films. They suck. Theron looked all of 100 pounds in AB and she was throwing guys nearly twice her size like they were nothing. It looks weak as hell. There's a reason why there's never been a female action star like Arnold, Stallone, Willis, Gibson, Van Damme, Reeves etc.

What about Charlize in "Atomic Blonde"? I found Jessica Chastain's action more convincing in "Ava". Than Charlize Theron's in "Atomic Blonde".

And I took martial arts. I saw and experienced little women who kicked ass. But I agree, Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde was just too skinny to be doing all those things. Even though I didn't like the show, Theron's action performance in "The Old Guard" was more convincing than in "Atomic Blonde".

Hate to say it but Charlize in "Atomic Blonde" didn't quite sell her fight scenes that well. The choreography was exceptional and that helped a lot, but you can easily see how much Charlize's opponents were slowing down their movements and waiting for her to catch up. She's able to perform the moves but she doesn't do it with the kind of snap and energy to make it believable. She just doesn't sell the moves enough, doesn't hit with enough energy to make it believable that she's sending men twice her size flying off her. She did far better in Old Guard. Female actresses have always had a hard time making believable fight scenes since they just don't move with the kind of energy as men do. We've been getting better at this with more recent movies (the female fight scenes in Fast and Furious movies as well as Mission Impossible movies are generally pretty good) but it's still pretty noticeable in a lot of other movies.

Atomic Blonde was a good movie. It's entertaining. But the fight scenes were not convincing. Same with Gunpowder Milkshake. But Gunpowder Milkshake is pulp fiction. Atomic Blonde is an action thriller.

One thing was clear to me in this movie. Lena Headey was the best actress in this. Her acting was the best, she sold her character the best, and her action scenes were the most convincing. Clearly.

When I watched the fight scene in the bowling alley, the first thought that came to my mind was, "Why didn't they just get the stunt double to film the fight scenes instead of Karen?" When I see movies like these that insist on using the main actress for fight scenes, I have to wonder why they just don't hire actresses who already have some degree of fighting background like Katheryn Winnick, Pom Klementieff, Jessica Biel, Olivia Munn, Kelly Hu, Elodie Yung, etc.

I haven't seen the film yet; not sure if I will. Women in general cannot throw a man around so I know what you mean when you talk about there not being any 'weight' behind the punches and throws and it makes me roll my eyes to see the men practically throwing themselves around. Unless the woman in the film is playing a superhero like Wonder Woman, there is no way any of that is possible. It does kind of take you out of the film when actors like Johannsen behave in films like they are super powered when they are not.
