Objective: Destroy Jötunheim. Simple solution: Stealth bomber. A couple laser guided bombs. Dumb solution: Send in a bunch of unpredictable, unreliable, super criminals. The objective was to make sure the project info didn't leak. Once informed the drive was secured, Waller was going to blow the team's heads off for trying to stop Starro. From what I saw, she could've sent Harley or Ratcatcher alone. Harley Quinn has no super powers and no training and yet she's an indestructible killing machine. She took out an entire army while doing a pirouette, scaled a wall like Spider-Man, survived a building falling on her, and emerged from an alien eyeball completely unscathed after not breathing for several minutes. Ratcatcher simply overwhelmed the giant creature with an army of rats. They probably should've led off with that. I wonder if she feels guilty for letting Polka Dot Man die when she could've killed Starro and his army at any time? Those other clowns just got in the way. It was even a meta joke more than once in the film; Harley wanders up to them as they come to 'rescue' her, and Peacemaker and Bloodsport have a conversation about their characters essentially being the same. The shark is just a bad cinematic Hulk knockoff. One of the most generic movie villains ever. The absurdity is the point with characters this ridiculous I suppose, but you can still try to write an actual story. It's like they took parts of a rejected Schwarzenegger film from the 80s and threw in the craziest D list comic book characters they could think of. Unlike GOTG, there's no charm, no soul to the film. They try to distract the audience with shock value kills and humor, but it doesn't work. It's lazy, it's poorly written, it's actively bad.

I dunno, blowing up and/or incinerating a hard drive is a pretty good way to make sure no one reads it. It’s certainly a better plan than secretly entrusting the true goal to a solitary dude. Also, I think I might have dozed off during the part where it was explained why Waller was intent on letting a giant zombie creating machine go free to take over the world once she made sure the USA would remain blameless … ‘cause without a damn good explanation, that made no sense.

It was meh. The constant jokes got old about 20 minutes in. Some of the action was pretty fun though. When will we finally be free of this GotG-style humor? It’s so bad, and literally ruins entire movies. That would be James Gunn's humour style no? I guess as long you watch a movie he wrote and direct. I want to add that Idris Elba is absolute fantastic as the lead. I mostly enjoyed the camera and artistic decisions like the flowers bursting out from Harley Quinn and the ratcatcher 2 backstories where her memories are illuminated on the bus window. The fact that the final battle took place under a bright white sky is also a plus. I'm conflicted about Bloodsport's character. On one hand, I'm still pissed off that they just didn't make Deathstroke the lead character in this, as he clearly fits the role of Bloodsport perfectly. I'm also irritated that Bloodsport is a blatant replacement of Deadshot, even so far as to cast another black character in lieu of Will Smith. On the other hand, Idris Elba was the best thing about this movie. So I love watching guy who's cast in a role that pissed me off.

James Gunn needs to be on a leash. Put him on a really short leash he can make something entertaining like Guardians of the Galaxy. Loosen that leash and you get the juvenile, self indulgent Vol 2. Take the leash off completely and you get this mean spirited, gratuitous, crass, sadistically violent, unfunny crap.

I keep seeing how Starro's rampage was against humanity at large but it didn't seem like that to me. They seemed more about killing everyone in the city ("This is my city") for their complicity, regardless of innocence. They did leave the Squad alone after they saved them. I assumed after they killed everyone there, they would've just rest there for the rest of their lives and killed anyone else trying to kill them out of self-defense. What's your take?
Note: I'm using "they" to be gender neutral.

By the halfway point I was disappointed Indulgent Slow. Considering what Gunn was canceled over, Weasel seemed a bad choice Definitely indulgent. Though I shouldn’t be shocked considering all of the promo was about what a demented “genius” Gunn is. 🙄🤮 It worked in GotG because the characters fit the humor. Marvel is pretty strict in what it lets directors do. They have a place they are working towards so none of the director's artistic vision messing up the next 3 movies. It felt like he needed some reigning in.

It's Waller. She is a cold bitch. Wasn't the line something about the place wouldn't be a US Ally after this so it didn't matter if Starro wiped the whole island out.

Trust Harley or Ratcatcher? Harley was made by Joker, one of Bats' worst foes. She lives with the psycho. You think she hasn't picked up a couple tricks? Her power? SHE'S HOT. Guys are stupid around that. I used to ask my husband if he got whiplash flipping his head around to look at a hot chick. Although mom said when they stop looking, they're dead. It takes a few minutes to gather all those rats. Hard to say how many would show up as well. What if the city had just had a rat cleanup? She didn't know the political landscape. We had Killer Croc in the first movie & you're questioning King Shark? What if they brought in Gorilla Grod? Shark & Grod have been on the TV show Flash fairly effectively. It's comic books, for heaven's sake. Marvel has Sauron (pterodactyl) & a lizard dude.

It's comic books, for heaven's sake. Marvel has Sauron (pterodactyl) & a lizard dude. I didn't ask what Harley's power was, I pointed out she's an indestructible killing machine, which makes no sense. She picked up a few tricks, like how to survive a building falling on you or how to do a pirouette and mow down an army as nobody thinks to just shoot you where you stand. I didn't question the shark, I said he was a bad Hulk knockoff. If you put a gun to my head and asked me to watch the Flash tv show, I'd pull the trigger myself. The Harley/Ratcatcher comment was an observation of how OP those characters were, not an issue of plot. In reality it makes no sense to send any of these idiots on a mission of this level of importance. As far as trusting them, ah yes, she should definitely send the barely sentient shark guy or the barely sane polka dot man. Again, the ridiculousness is the point so whatever, but don't inject logic into your defense of the movie, because then the entire concept falls apart even faster. Marvel has plenty of lame villains, and I complain when they use them in the movies. But nothing in the MCU has come close to this trash. The entire thing was a spoof of itself.
