You know where this is heading: In an interview with El Mundo for the upcoming release of Dune, Villeneuve opened up about his thoughts on the world of MCU filmmaking. The director shared his belief that the films are far too similar to one another and that the roster has past its acceptable limit of installments. See Villeneuve's translated comments below: "There are too many Marvel movies that are nothing more than a cut and paste of others." screenrant.com/marvel-movies-criticism-denis-villeneuve-dune-movie/

This isnt a problem which is only in the MCU. You can apply it to most major motion pictures.

I actually think directors like Denis are a part of the problem. I adore Blade Runner 2049 and it’s my favorite sci fi movie since Jurassic Park. But Dune, as much as I want to see it, does look like an indie film with a massive budget and that type of thing never made money in Hollywood. Pick whatever era you like there was no time when a movie like this was going to be a huge hit. It’s a fallacy that one must chose between mass appeal and creative integrity. It’s your job as a filmmaker to find the balance. And to blame superhero movies when you fear that you are about to fail is pathetic.

Well, it's about time someone famous in the film industry is finally talking about the MCU. And complaining about it, i figured this would happen eventually.

I mean...it's just an opinion. He's allowed his. That doesn't make him an asshole, Neill.

Yeah I get that. I think his comments were more a shot at Disney than the film directors though. I don't know if anyone expects directors to have any creative control of an MCU movie.

Haha it's funny because when I watched his Dune trailer it has the same Marvel humour, the Paul Atreides IronMan battle suit and Jason Momoa's character looks like he's been cut and paste straight out of a Marvel movie himself. He's a fucking hypocritical idiot.

Neill is just upset he's a shitty director. Honestly, he really should had jumped at Alien 5 when he had the chance. Dunno if it'd been good but I'd rather have that than Chappie.

I've been a huge defender of Blomkamp, I really wanted to see him succeed but he's gone downhill since District 9. He's attributed it to studio intervention so I gave him benefit of the doubt, and enjoyed his short youtube films but he completely lost me with Demonic. If Demonic was a youtube short and condensed to 20-30 minutes it could've been good, but frankly after seeing the final release I have very little interest to see what Blomkamp does next. I love the Alien franchise and agree that I would've rather seen a 5th release than Chappie. Worst case scenario it would've been another poor Alien flick but who knows, maybe that materiel would've clicked with him.
