So there is a NYC Kyrie rule for unvaccinated Yankees and Mets too? They can't play home games if they aren't vaccinated? Yankees and Mets didn't make domes in the offseason, did they? Yup, they can’t play home games if they aren’t vaxxed.

Yup, they can’t play home games if they aren’t vaxxed. I think that’s stupid, but I also think it’s stupid to not get the vaccine unless you have a legitimate medical reason not to. But they should still be allowed to play, I mean unvaxxed players are playing everywhere else, what makes NYC different?

I actually thought NYC had ended its vax and mask mandate in most indoor places (other than the subway and certain other areas), while businesses retain the right to impose their own policies. It's not something I regularly keep up with though if we're being honest, and I haven't been in the city in about a month or so. I'll probably still wear a mask on the subway though going forward. That just seems like a prudent thing to do, mask mandate or otherwise. Unvaxxed players also won't be able to cross the border and play in Toronto as of now. Interesting to see how that plays out as the season starts.

Phillies to sign Kyle Schwarber. Exact details yet to be released, but it's believed to be a 4-year deal in the neighborhood of $80m. I'm guessing he'll serve as their primary DH. He'll hit 150 homers a year in that minor league park.
Picking right up in his sweet spot, Chris Sale has a fractured rib and will miss Opening Day. No exact timetable on his return, but it's believed to be "weeks, not days" before he's cleared to resume baseball activities. That really sucks.
Blue Jays are about to acquire Matt Chapman from the A's in another pillaging of Oakland (although they did very well in the Olson deal). The Jays now have one of the premier defensive 3B in the game in Chapman. No word on what they're giving up.
Cubs about to sign Seiya Suzuki for 5 years, $70m. For a team looking to tear it down and rebuild, I'm not exactly sure what they're doing. Not knocking the moves they have made thus far (Stroman is always a good addition, his twitter bullshit notwithstanding), but they'll be stuck in purgatory if they don't figure out an actual multi-year roadmap including building from within.

If the Jays write Chapman a new contract (don't have to, he signed until 2024), that might take them out of the Freddie Freeman Froofrah. I can't believe Tampa is a serious contender. That might leave the Red Sox. I'm not sure I'd be ecstatic over that. Knee jerk reaction is "Woo Hoo". But 1b isn't a need. I'd rather see them grab another OF or a starter, especially with the Chris Sale news. And it took the Sox two years (lucky it was only two years) to get out from the luxury tax doghouse. Right back in it if they sign FF.

Right back in it if they sign FF. There really aren't a ton of viable starting pitchers left, not ones that would cost a lot anyway and/or would be more than stopgaps. You're looking at guys like Danny Duffy, Wily Peralta, Tyler Anderson, Michael Pineda, Johnny Cueto.....although Zack Greinke is still around. But I'm pretty sure Greinke has emphatically stated in the past that he has no interest in playing in the northeast corridor due to the media barrage. So there are warm bodies out there, but that's kinda it. If the Sox are thinking that their offense will carry them then I guess the Pinedas and Cuetos of the world are probably fine as they can just win 10-7 all year. For outfielders, you have a few more options. Nick Castellanos, Michael Conforto, Jorge Soler, Tommy PHam and the perennially underrated Corey Dickerson are still around, as are Joc Pederson and *Eddie Rosario*. Good players, but try selling the idea of not grabbing Freeman because you wanted Tommy Pham and Danny Duffy to the Sox faithful. I totally hear you about Freeman though. There was an article the other day (I forgot where I saw it, I skimmed it) about how the Freeman situation with Atlanta is analogous to the impossible decision St. Louis was faced with when Albert Pujols hit free agency. Now, Pujols was THE best hitter in baseball at the time, but his age was a concern, and the idea that he wouldn't age well was legitimate just due to his size. I don't believe the same concern exists with Freeman. Of course, the deal he wants (6 years, $30m per) would bring him to his age 38 season so you'd assume that his skillset would diminish, but I can't imagine he'd fall off a cliff the way Pujols did. EDIT: Rosario off the board, signs 2-year, $18m deal with the Bravos.

Blue Jays and Guardians discussing a possible Jose Ramirez trade. Ho-ly shit! If the Jays land Ramirez, that has to catapult them to division favorites.

30 doubleheaders scheduled, as you would expect with it being a late start to the season and it remaining at 162 games. Regular season ends October 5.
