Correa signs with the Twins. 3 for $105.3 m with opt outs. Wow, didn't see that one coming. Twins have a lineup with a lot of pop. Correa, Sano, Buxton, Polanco, Urshela, Kepler. If Nick Gordon hits his potential, it's one of the best in baseball. They got good prospects for Jose Berrios. Do they have enough pitching? Dylan Bundy, Sonny Gray, Kenta Meada, is it enough to take out the Pale Hose? I thought the Twins were in rebuild mode when they traded Berrios and Buxton seemed to be on the block.
Did they Twins dump Gary Sanchez yet? If I was the Twins, I'd give him a shot. Might rejuvenate his career getting out of NYC

Braves sign Kenley Jansen to a 1 year, $16m contract, giving them a bona fide closer in place of heart attack specialist, Will Smith. I honestly didn’t even realize Jansen was available. Nice move for the Bravos.

An extra closer...sure...Jensen bring it on Pretty sure he becomes the closer and Smith gets relegated to an earlier inning, no?

Not my favorite player, he’s infuriatingly streaky but if his bat shows up, he’ll definitely provide some much needed pop. His split between two teams last year is a perfect microcosm for his entire career - was hitting below the Mendoza line with little power before the trade, then lit it up after the trade, en route to a WS MVP. Talk about getting hot at the right time.

I’m glad my Fishies got another hitter who can provide some power, yes he’s streaky, but he can hit dingers and the Marlins have struggled with hitting dingers the last few years.

Red Sox land Trevor Story on a 6 year deal worth $140m. They get the big bat they need to help battle those pesky Blue Jays and their continually improving team.

He's never played an inning at 2nd. Should be a hoot watching him try. He will move to short in '23 when Bogarts walks. And he definitely will move on after this season. All that money for a guy who hit .251 in the majestic heights of the Rocky Mountains last year. What will he hit at sea level? A six year deal might have got the Sox Fred Freeman, who filled a spot better than Story. He's the one big FA that I didn't want to see come to Fenway.

Yeah, second base could be an adventure, but regarding last year, Story just had a bad year. The distractions from Arenado and the dysfunctional front office, the trade winds that swirled around him literally all season long, only to have the Rockies not trade him, to the fact that he had a garbage lineup around him. Then you throw in the fact that his BABIP last year was .298 after consistently being in the .350 range for his entire career, that's indicative of bad luck more than anything. He hasn't been awesome away from Coors Field though for his career, sporting a .752 career OPS. But in a strong lineup with a good supporting cast around him, I think Story will do just fine in his new home.

It could have been an off year, it could have been the sign of decline. He's only 29 but I've seen players start their downward spiral at that age. It will benefit Story to have a better lineup. And the Sox will have to fill 2b next year (Boegarts will walk away after this year). The Sox best prospect is a SS, Marcelo Mayer, but he still a couple years away. And this just reeks of making a move just to make a move and not have to listen to the Neanderthals squeak all season. Reminds me of Carl Crawford, Pablo Sandoval, Hanley Ramirez.
i hope I'm wrong

I hear you. Get Michael Conforto! He's a really good hitter, last year notwithstanding. In more of a hitter's park, I think he could put up a 3/4/5 line (he did in 2020, but in a shortened year) and he has morphed into a pretty good right fielder over the past few years.

I wouldn't have been bothered by seeing the Sox get Conforto. The OF is okay, might be great, might suck. Corners are Kike Hernandez and Alex Verdugo. Verdugo should get better but he will never hit for power. Was Kike a flash in the pan? And Jackie Bradley Jr is back in CF. His pathetic hitting never bothered me because he saved a lot of run and the hits will come from the rest of the lineup. But JBJ will be 32 this season and will be slowing up. I don't see this being a good move at all.
I hate the opt outs in the contract. Makes no sense. If he sucks, he gets paid. If he overperforms, he walks.

Gave up a shitload for Chapman and a ton got Jose Berrios last year
