Jason McArtney returns to the AFL after getting blown up in a terrorist bombing of Bali (the guy dragged several people out of the wreckage with severe burns to his face and his right arm half falling off). He sets up the winning goal and then announces his retirement after the game. Other AFL one would be the Melbourne team all wearing Troy Broadbridges number linking arms as they walked off the MCG after he had died on the 2004 tsunami, basically sacrificing his life to get his wife to safety on her honeymoon. Impossible not to get choked up by stuff like that. you see ...... this is where i show my ignorance to a sport so this guy got half his body blown off by a bomb by a rival country and continued to play 'soccer' hockey/nhl fanboys.....lads going into the lockerroom to get stitched up - or - what do you think about this? this cat had half his body blown to shreds and returned to run around for 20 minutes acting like he's strategically chasing a soccer ball................. you hockey fans are pusses..................

After Endy Chavez robbed Scott Rolen of a HR in Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS, I knew the Mets would go on to win that game and face the Tigers in the WS. Then, of course, Aaron Hellman serves up a beach ball to Yadier Molina in the 9th, Beltran watches strike 3 float by, and that was it. They were so good that year, I remember sitting in the stands for about 15 minutes afterward, just stunned. That was rough. This is why I get annoyed with Mets fans sometimes. Beltran was persona non grata in New York after that at-bat. The WFAN hosts, the WFAN callers, regular Mets fans, NYDN and NYP columnists...they all ripped him mercilessly after that. In the meantime he gave them some truly great years, and he's been great during his career. To a lesser extent Piazza wasn't appreciated either and toward the end people just wanted him out. Meanwhile, they celebrate obscure moments and scrubs. 17 years later most Mets fans still don't shut up about how good Benny Agbayani was for like 3 weeks. Even David Wright is not immune. Yes, i understand that it's frustrating to have money tied up in a guy who can't get healthy, but Wright is one of the greatest Mets in team history.

Not really a moment, but the '98-'99 Knicks were tragic. They were the 8th seed and defeated top-seeded Miami in the first round. Then they beat Atlanta, and the Pacers, but lost Patrick Ewing, and the team had no big men left by the time they got to the finals. They still managed to win one game. That season and finals was made even more tragic because the Knicks suck, and have sucked for 17 years, with a brief interregnum back in 2012-2013 when they had a bunch of veterans and solid players who managed to make Carmelo Anthony look somewhat decent -- Jason Kidd, Kenyon Martin, Marcus Camby, Tyson Chandler, and a bunch of guys (Shumpert, Novak) who had very good years from behind the arc. being a Sixers fan - i always hated the Knicks but loved those old school Ewing, Starks, Oakley days - tough as nails. fun to watch as i was growing up. Don't forget Derek Harper and Anthony Mason. Mason was a prototype of the "point forward" we see nowadays with guys like Draymond Green -- a tenacious defender and rebounding big man who also had exceptional passing and handling skills. Harper was severely underrated, yet he was also a lockdown defender, serial pickpocket, fantastic passer and could score seemingly at will. People forget he was an 18 and 7 guy as a PG for the Mavs for many years. That was really the last era that any Knicks fan could have pride in our team.

Blue Jays - 1987. Easily one of their strongest teams ever, 96 wins 2nd in all of baseball, stumbling down the stretch to the 98 win Tigers. Then Detroit went out & lost to inferior Minnesota. HM: 2015 ALCS game 6. Runner on third, no outs; zero runs cashed in. Ben Revere's bat assault on a gatorade keg is my lasting memory after being called out on a shady pitch.
Maple Leafs - '93 semis game 6, no call on Gretzky's bloody high sticking of Gilmour.
Raptors - Vince Carter's missed shot against the Sixers.
TFC - '16 no shots allowed on goal to lose MLS Cup at home on penalties.
Patriots - 18-1. To be fair, 5 SB titles is a soft cushion to land on.
Florida State - Wide Right I, II, III, Wide Left

Well people who call up Francessa are a special breed and columnists need to sell copy, but I, and real fans, have no problem with Beltran. The guy who threw the curveball was Adam Wainwright. You projected something onto me whereas I simply said what happened. I'll give you that he was unfairly treated at the time. Nobody wanted Piazza out. "Most Mets fans" don't shut up Benny Agbayani? That's news to me. As for Wright. One of my favorite players, a truly decent person who plays hard, says the right things, loves the community. A true shame that his career has been derailed the way that it has. Most of his contract is covered by insurance so I'm not sure to what you are referring.

Allen Iverson cries at a press conference returning to the Sixers. Talks about past mistakes. How it's made him a better man. Everyone under the sun thinks he's 'shot' and 'done' and doesn't have anything in the tank. Iverson holding back tears stating all he wants to do is play basketball and help his teammates. Phillies fans giving Tony Gwynn Jr a standing ovation after his fathers death
Phillies and Mets fans chanting USA when word got around the stadium Bin Ladin was killed
Flyers fans giving Mario Lemieux a standing ovation after he returned from radiation from Hodgkin's, and another standing ovation after his last game in Philly in the 97 playoffs
Still the biggest tearjerker from my childhood "Do you believe in miracles? YES!"

It's January 17th 1999, the Vikings go into the NFC Championship 16-1 having set NFL records for points scored and total yards. The team has 10 Pro Bowlers including Hall of Fame receivers Randy Moss and Chris Carter, Randall Cunningham at QB. There's 2:11 remaining in the game, Vikes with a 7 pt lead, and Gary Anderson, who had made 122 consecutive kicks, lines up for what would most likely be a game clinching 38 yard field goal. WIDE LEFT! The life was sucked from my body. ![](http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e41/imdbv2/imdbsmileys/sad2.gif)

That game crushed me too! I really wanted to see Cunningham and CC to win a SB, even if it wasn't in Philly. If Cunningham had been coached well early in his career, he could have been an all time great.

WIDE LEFT! The life was sucked from my body. For me, the most gut-wrenching moment was on January 15, 1995. The Cowboys play in their 3rd straight NFC Championship Game, looking to become the first team to win 3 straight Super Bowls. The team has 4 Hall of Famers (Aikman, Haley, Irvin, and Emmitt Smith). After falling behind 21-0 in the 1st quarter, the Cowboys battle back to within 10 points with 10 minutes left in the game and have the ball at midfield driving for another score that would make it a 1-possession game.
Aikman throws a deep pass to Irvin inside the 49ers 10-yard-line. Irvin has Deion Sanders beat, but Deion blatantly pushes Irvin before the ball arrives. Obvious pass interference on Deion. But the refs don't throw the flag (even though the refs threw a flag against the Cowboys for pass interference on Jerry Rice on the exact same play in the 1st half). The drive is stalled and the 49ers hang on to win and get to play the pathetic Chargers in the Super Bowl.
The following season, the Cowboys win the Super Bowl again. So had the Cowboys won that NFC Championship Game against the 49ers, the Cowboys would've destroyed the Chargers in the Super Bowl and would've won an incredible 4 straight Super Bowls.
