Jimmy White getting to 6 world snooker finals, and losing all 6. But that's just a personal tragedy, in sport there are life and death stories. Mark-Vivien Foe dying on the pitch was pretty shocking. Paul Hunter dying at the age of 27 from cancer upset me a bit. Many people say Jimmy White is the best player to have never won a snooker WC, I think Paul Hunter can stake a claim to that. He had the looks, had the talent, had everything going for him, you might think you'd hate him, but he was a really nice guy too. Maybe most heart wrenching though for me was the Eubank-Watson II fight. After Eubank was floored in the 11th and way behind on points, he got up and caught Watson with an upper cut just before the bell. Watson's corner dragged him to his stool. He came out in the 12th round, still groggy, and was shortly stopped by Eubank. But it got even worse as he later collapsed in the ring, went into a coma, when he woke up weeks later after operations, the doctors thought he wouldn't survive, he couldn't talk, he couldn't move, his only way of communicating was by blinking eyes. Muhammad Ali actually flew over to visit him in hospital, big respect for that. After years and years of therapy, he regained his speech and even learnt to walk again. There are documentaries on it, and they started making a film about it a few months ago, I wont post a link to the fight, instead I shall just post one picture from the London Marathon a few years ago to show that Michael Watson still has the heart of a lion. It took him 6 days but he did it when no one gave him a prayer of ever walking again. Neither Eubank (left) or Watson (centre) or British boxing were ever the same again after that. ![](https://images.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fcache1.asset-cache.net%2Fgc%2F1940134-ex-boxer-michael-watson-crosses-the-finish-gettyimages.jpg%3Fv%3D1%26c%3DIWSAsset%26k%3D2%26d%3DOCUJ5gVf7YdJQI2Xhkc2QPf9qIdS1S1HRllphDBwP6BqbNQVPeA6CEINe2eM6QG6lSxgXM0Xf6bW4snQPiBoOg%253d%253d&f=1) But there has been even worse in sport, I was a too young to remember the Bradford fire in the early 80s which caused the death of 50 odd fans (I've watched the clips on youtube, pretty horrific, I'd advise some caution before viewing), too young to remember the Heysel disaster, wasn't born during the Ibrox disaster, but the Hillsborough disaster I remember. Terrible tragedy.
