American country music singer and songwriter Mickey Gilley has left us at the age of 86, on May 7th. Although he started out singing straight-up country and western material in the 1970's, he moved towards a more pop-friendly sound in the 1980's, bringing him further success on not just the country charts, but the pop charts as well. Among his biggest hits are "Room Full of Roses", "Don't the Girls All Get Prettier at Closing Time", and the remake of the Soul hit "Stand by Me". He charted 42 singles in the top 40 on the US Country chart. He was a cousin of Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl McVoy, and Jimmy Swaggart. Occasionally acted in movies and on television like Urban Cowboy (performing many songs) 1980, Off the Wall 1983 and guest star roles on CHiPs 1983, Fantasy Island 1984 and Murder, She Wrote 1990. Canadian film and television actor Kenneth Welsh has left us at the age of 80. on May 5th. He is known as the multi-faceted villain Windom Earle in Twin Peaks 1990 - 1991 and played the father of Katharine Hepburn as portrayed by Cate Blanchett in Martin Scorsese's The Aviator 2004. He has portrayed historical figures, including Thomas E. Dewey, Colin Thatcher, Harry S. Truman (twice), Thomas Edison, James "Scotty" Reston, General Harry Crerar and James Baker. He was a two-time Genie Award nominee for Best Actor, receiving nods at the 6th Genie Awards in 1985 for his portrayal of Reno Colt in the film Reno and the Doc and at the 8th Genie Awards in 1987 for his performance as David Sutton in Loyalties, and a two-time Genie nominee for Best Supporting Actor, receiving a nomination at the 5th Genie Awards in 1984 for Tell Me That You Love Me and winning the award at the 16th Genie Awards in 1996 for Margaret's Museum. American film director and screenwriter John R. Cherry III has left us at the age of 73, on May 8th. (Parkinson's disease) Perhaps most notable for creating the character of Ernest P. Worrell, played by Jim Varney. He was the executive vice president and co-namesake of the Nashville-based "Carden and Cherry" advertising agency, for which the "Ernest" character was developed. He based the character on a man who worked for his father, about whom he said, that he thought he knew everything but did not know anything. Ernest was portrayed for 15 years by Jim Varney, who at the time of the character's debut was an up-and-coming stand-up comic; after a string of successful commercials and sketches, he directed a television series ( Hey, Vern! English actor Robin Parkinson has left us at the age of 92, on May 7th. Best known for his comedy roles. He appeared as the second actor to portray Monsieur Ernest Leclerc in 22 episodes of 'Allo 'Allo! (series 7–9), after the death of the first portrayer Derek Royle (the character being the brother of Roger Leclerc, played by Jack Haig), and was a familiar face of comedy in the 1970's and 1980's. He made his first film appearance as the jeweller's assistant in Billy Liar 1963. Other films include The Family Way 1966, Twisted Nerve 1968, and Catch Me a Spy 1969. He narrated and provided voices to the ITV television series Button Moon. He is remembered by BBCR.I.P. Robin Parkinson

I've found some information that American actress Andra Martin has passed away at age 86, but I can't find any confirmation. She acted in movies and television productions in the late 1950's and early 1960's, and retired from acting in 1963

American actor Fred Ward has left us at the age of 79, on May 8th. He became an actor after studying at Herbert Berghof Studio and in Rome, Italy. At the time working in experimental theatre and doing some television work. He made his first American film appearance playing a cowboy in Hearts of the West 1975. His first major role came in the Clint Eastwood vehicle Escape from Alcatraz 1979 as fellow escapee John Anglin. He was also notable as a violent National Guardsman in Walter Hill's Southern Comfort 1981. His first starring role in a motion picture was Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann 1982. He then starred as astronaut Gus Grissom in The Right Stuff, in the action movie Uncommon Valor with Gene Hackman and in the drama Silkwood (all 1983). Character actor James Olson passed away on April 17, 2022 at the age of 91. Starting out as a stage actor, he appeared mostly in TV series and TV movies; his notable feature film appearances include roles in Rachel, Rachel (1968) and The Andromeda Strain (1971). R.I.P.

Czech film and theatre actor Josef Abrhám has left us at the age of 82, on May 16th. In 1962 he was given his first major film role in the film Transport from Paradise 1962 directed by director Zbyněk Brynych. This was followed by the major roles in The Cry 1963 and the role of writer Jaroslav Hašek in Velká cesta 1963. In the Czech Republic his most famous roles were seductive physician Blažej in the television series Hospital at the End of the City 1978 - 1981 and fake waiter Vrána in Waiter, Scarper! 1981. In 1994 he won the Czech Lion Award for Best Actor in Leading Role for his role of Prokop in the film Big Beat 1993. He was also nominated in 2006 for the Czech Lion Award for Best Supporting Actor for Beauty in Trouble 2006 and in 2011 for the Czech Lion Award for Best Actor in Leading Role for Leaving. American former child actress and later opera soprano June Preston has left us at the age of 93, on May 13th. She began her film career at RKO Pictures, with a minor role as Mrs. Blewett's daughter in the 1934 film Anne of Green Gables. As a child star, she was promoted with heavy marketing and merchandising to position her as a child star rival to Shirley Temple. Perhaps best known for creating television shows such as ITV British drama Fat Friends (2000–05), as well as co creating CITV's British children's drama Children's Ward (1989–2000). In her parallel career as a television actress, she appeared in her own adaptation of Jane Eyre 1997 and in other series and films such as the comedy drama Stan the Man 2002, A Good Thief 2002 and Gifted 2003. American actress Marnie Schulenburg has left us at the age of 37, on May 17th. (metastatic breast cancer) Perhaps best known for her role as Alison Stewart on the CBS soap opera As the World Turns 2007–2010. She made her film debut in the romantic comedy Made for Each Other 2009. She appeared in the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival theater productions of As You Like It 2006 and South Pacific 2011. She appeared in the documentary film One Night Stand 2011 alongside Cheyenne Jackson, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Rachel Dratch. The film follows the cast for 24 hours as they compose music, write a script and lyrics and learn lines, because the show will make its one night open and close at New York City's Gramercy Theatre. In 2013, she was cast as Jo Sullivan on ABC's soap opera One Life to Live. In 2014, she began portraying ambitious actress Peyton Adams on Tainted Dreams that premiered on YouTube on December 30, 2013 and later moved exclusively to Amazon and Amazon Prime. Greek musician and composer Vangelis (Ευάγγελος Οδυσσέας Παπαθανασίου) has left us at the age of 79, on May 17th. Maybe best known for his Academy Award-winning score to Chariots of Fire 1981, as well as for composing scores to the films Blade Runner 1982, Missing 1982, Antarctica 1983, The Bounty 1984, 1492: Conquest of Paradise 1992, and Alexander 2004, and for the use of his music in the 1980 PBS documentary series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage by Carl Sagan. Having had a career in music spanning over 50 years and having composed and performed more than 50 albums, he is considered to be one of the most important figures in the history of electronic music. She was most famous for two roles: She played "Gem" on the 1968 Star Trek episode The Empath and Kim Sullivan Reynolds Dixon Stewart Andropoulous Hughes on the CBS daytime drama As the World Turns for four decades. American actor John Aylward has left us at the age of 75, on May 16th. Perhaps best known for playing the former DNC chairman Barry Goodwin on the NBC television series The West Wing 2005 - 2006 and for playing Dr. Donald Anspaugh on the NBC television series ER 1996 - 2008. He was one of the founders, in 1973, of Seattle's Empty Space Theatre, and he worked regularly as a company member of the Seattle Repertory Theatre. Carol Flynt, co-producer of ER, first offered him an audition after seeing him in a 1996 production of " Psychopathia Sexualis" at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. In movies he could be seen in Armageddon 1998, Thirteen Days 2000, Down with Love 2003, Water for Elephants 2011, Gangster Squad 2013, The Way Back 2020 among others. (died in his sleep) Perhaps best known for playing Shoeless Joe Jackson in Field of Dreams 1989 and as Henry Hill in Goodfellas 1990. His other roles included Ray Sinclair in Something Wild 1986, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination, as well as starring in Unlawful Entry 1992, Cop Land 1997, Hannibal 2001, Blow 2001, John Q 2002, Identity 2003, Observe and Report 2009, Killing Them Softly 2012, The Place Beyond the Pines 2012, and Marriage Story 2019, as well as the drama series Shades of Blue 2016 - 2018. He won an Emmy Award "Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series" for ER episode Time of Death 2005. He acted in over 120 movies and television productions from 1980 until 2022, with another two productions completed, one in post production and another tree productions in "filming" status.
