I created this thread to discuss the ongoing story, all its plot threads, and where you think it is going.
*spoilers for episode 1 - 4 *
Who do you think the billionaire could be?
How long do you think it will be before we see Cooper compus mentis again. I got excited when he drunk the Coffee. Though I don't think he is quite back yet.

Would it help me enjoy the show more if I know the characters backstory?

Well the show is Season 3 so it's essential really.
It started out as a soap opera/ crime drama that turned supernatural gradually before turning into what it is in the Fire walk with me movie. The new show is pretty much a follow on from that style. If you haven't seen the show and the movie then it would probably be incomprehensible.

I'll start off by saying this season so far has been..... Strange ...Yet wonderfully enjoyable. Weirdly, my biggest qualm with the revival is the complete lack of Badalamenti's score, it's sorely missed- the scene with Bobby in Ep 4 was quite the relief when Laura's theme started blasting though. The smooth jazzy score of the original series was contextually perfect and filled in the moments of silence effectively but it's rarely there which is kinda upsetting (for me at least).
With regards to "the billionaire", I have no clue but it's obviously someone who is aware of the Black Lodge and all that mysticism. With Coop, I reckon we'll see him return to form soon, I mean I'm pretty sure that "Hi" he dropped after drinking the coffee was the first new thing he said that wasn't parroting someone else.
With regards to the story, I have a feeling this first half of the season will consist of setting up the new mysteries introduced in Episode 1 and bring back Coop (the legit one) to the FBI and Twin Peaks. The second half will probably delve further into the Black Lodge's mythology, have Coop investigating these strange supernatural cases whilst also searching for an effective way to send his Doppelganger back into the Lodge. The murder of the librarian and glass box are almost certainly linked to the Black Lodge and BOB- the set up was jarring but should hopefully pay off.

so were there three Coopers?
is "Dougie" an alter ego of the doppelganger? Bob veering off the road and (actual) Cooper's manifestation seemed to be shown concurrently but i'm not sure if it was meant to've occurred that way.

Would it help me enjoy the show more if I know the characters backstory? No. At this point Lynch doesn't even bother trying to vaguely make a coherent storyline. Read the liner notes on some of his dvds from the last 20 years and it's obvious from the "clues" he gives that he's trolling the more desperate to be seen as clever section of his fanbase. If you want some laughs, watch to see how over the top ridiculous Twin Peaks Redux will become. I'm predicting lots more brief cameos that reveal nothing, lots more rehashed signature Lynch weirdness that goes nowhere and means nothing and lots more beautifully shot creepiness that any Lynch fan has seen far too many times before to think it's innovative but will insist is innovative regardless. Of course critics and the desperate Lynchians will proclaim it BRILLIANT because Emperors New Clothes syndrome. I haven't seen episodes 3 & 4 and I'm not sure how others have (Showtime on demand perhaps?) The first 2 eps were too meandering and pointless to make me bother searching. I will watch them eventually in the hopes David will cobble together something slightly reminiscent of a cogent plot but I'm skeptical to say the least. Better to watch the original. Back then Lynch still gave enough of a shit to try. I'm not even sure you can say he's self indulgent now because none of it is original. Just more of the same. Lazy is probably more appropriate. It almost feels like he has nothing but contempt for the sycophants that mistakenly call him a "genius" because somehow in their minds that makes them feel important for "getting it". Sadly Lynch might be capable of still creating something actually worthy of praise but as long as he's worshiped for pooping out the same tired ambiguously uncomfortable clap trap the most effort he will expend will be cashing his paycheck. Here's hoping Lynch will prove me wrong but I'm seldom wrong. No offense to anyone who is fulfilled by "getting it". This is America and you're free to love what you want. Well that's not true but hopefully you know what I mean.

Season 3 is quite possibly one of the greatest seasons of television I've ever seen.

Dougie was manufactured by the Doppleganger/Bob/ to serve as the purpose of allowing him to not return to the lodge. Mike said the purpose had been fulfilled. He was wearing the ring which is connected to the lodge. The ring was taken by a nurse at the end of the missing pieces FWWM so I guess Bob must have caught up with her. Also yep, they happened concurrently, Bob/Cooper held back the vomit until the other one had returned to the black lodge.

Episode 4.
I won't spoil anything but the scene with Wally Brando made me laugh out loud. As demented as it was, it just did it for me. All of the attempts at humor so far were just making me more tense and nervous. Wally was a release for me. I just lost it. Long live Wally Brando!

love this theme it's really sad and you feel so sorry for Cooper. I've worked with people with dementia and so the current persona is a fairly familiar sight. It's like he has lost all of his agency and wit and all that's left is a narrow sense of empathy and honesty. I wonder if he will be like all the way to the finale or Lynch will resolve it before? Thoughts?

We could see Cooper restored to full mental capacity in three episodes time. There is speculation that this poster is a clue. The poster says there will be 'four furious rounds' starting on June 18th. We've had round one... Could be purely coincidental.... Here's the speculation

I hope Cooper does come back soon. Show's been ok, but I miss Agent Cooper.
And I hope that Audrey ICU theory isn't true.

Can't believe we were reintroduced to James and five episodes later he has not shown up yet. and now Becky hasn't been seen for another two. I think there are some issues with the pacing there.

This was playing over the sleepwalk theme at the end credits, suggests danger:

If I recall correctly, Showtime originally ordered just 9 eps, but later expanded it to 18. Maybe that's why it feels stretched. Or maybe this is just how Lynch wants the show to be.
Whatever the case may be, the ratings aren't good. And I can't blame people for tuning out. Showtime can't be too happy with this of course. Lynch originally balked at the idea of TP returning due to budget issues, so I assume Showtime shelled out here.
It's still mostly okay for me, but I want to see more of the original cast and the plot to move along.

Here's the speculation I also have been viewing the " Wow Lynch Wow " review series on YouTube also cypher ( and was really enjoying these so far too ) . The only disappointment for me at current with the most recent review for episode 7 is certain very important parts of the episode was completely left out that should have been covered but don't know why it wasn't Twin Peaks - Season 3, Part 7 - Episode Recap & Review by Wow Lynch Wow( Although I'm still looking forward to the next installment - IMPO these are quite intriguing too ! ) . Of course overall I'm still enjoying this return show a lot on SHOWTIME just the same ( and just going with the flow of it too - for me it's all good ) . Thanks so much cypher for the YouTube recap & review fan video for this show too .

**SPOILERS - EPISODE 7**
The last episode changed my mind about the series. Cooper is starting to return to his normal self, even if it was just for a brief moment. I cheered when he was fighting the little guy. The Diane scenes are impeccable. The ending with the Double R Diner was creepy. Now this is what I was expecting from Twin Peaks.
I hope they keep it up since there's a two-week break after the June 25th episode.

Otherwise I totally would have really been very confused & upset by all of this too - seriously . Is this break because of July 4th ? Although this show should not be affected by it because the 4th falls under a Tuesday this year and this show is on Sunday evenings . Oh well I guess I will have to have patience after the 25th like I do with a bottle of Heinz Ketchup ( " anticipation is making me wait " ? ) 1977 Heinz Ketchup Commercial "Anticipation" .
