See that guy passionately condemning those necklaces and earrings and monuments and decrying public proclamations of love while denying his arrogant intolerance and bigotry? That's an atheist. Just hold up a sign saying "Jesus Loves You" and the ones who spit on you are most likely atheists. Or Muslims. Hard to tell the difference sometimes. Atheists would not hold up a sign saying "I don't believe in Jesus" or "Can I talk to you about disbelief" and the only "evidence" for persecution of Christians is that laws and policies giving all people equal civil rights cannot be got around by saying, "My religion lets me discriminate" which is not, of course, real persecution.

Some people are proud of who they are and what they believe. I say if they aren't hurting anyone, let them. After all, this would not be a debate if we were talking about homosexuals and pride flags. The thing about those in-your-face Christians (not the money-grabbing evangelicals, mind you) is that they are concerned for what they believe to be atheists' eternal souls. In return, they get berated and silenced as they are accused of persecution complexes. I'd like to think it's not because atheists are offended. Yes, some of them do indeed wear Christian-themed jewelry, build gigantic monuments, hold signs, and shout their faith from mountaintops. So what? Do we burn down the Sistine Chapel and culture-cancel Michelangelo?

And if I were to hold such a sign, I would fully expect to be spit on by Christians, after which I would consider them to be no different than those atheists I just described. Incidentally, what would be the purpose of that sign?

Ooh, I got one, cancel REVEREND Al Sharpton. Funny he's the ONLY person who can carry that title and NOT be called a Bible thumping fundie by the Democrats who despise any religion except Islam and money.

Same purpose as a Jesus loves you sign? Jesus has been dead for almost 2000 years and there is no one in the Western world that hasn't heard of Jesus.

I don't see the tweet so I don't know if is sincere or snark but, "Jesus has been dead for almost 2000 years and there is no one in the Western world that hasn't heard of Jesus." was my attempt at stating such a sign serves no purpose. Guess it failed. I feel like Jesus, racism, and unrest in the Middle East are 3 things that every Westerner (especially Americans) hear about every day of their lives. I'm pretty sure that religious people don't understand how much religion permeates everything in our society.

Like us having laws that say don't rob, don't murder, don't bear false witness, things literally from the Bible?

You said a "Jesus Is Dead" sign serves the same purpose as a "Jesus Loves You" sign. Now you're saying the former sign serves no purpose. On the other hand, if "sign" is to be taken literally, then "shouting from mountaintops" should be as well. What's that? Nobody standing on the top of Mount Everest screaming into the wind? I guess I'm just snarking right of my butt here, but when I was an atheist, I didn't give a single rat's ass about those signs, paintings, and monuments. I still don't, to be honest. Maybe you can explain to me why so many atheists take such dramatic issues with them. Is it really because they don't like it? Or is there something deeper going on? I mean, when someone condemns pride parades, we call them homophobic...

Because of how atheism is associated with intelligence, ooo look at me I am too clever to believe in God™ (just for all the atheists, this is not all of them, or probably even the majority, just them loudest ones sometimes - like their Christian counterparts), and often this decision is made in the formative years when they are trying to impress others and the ego is in full swing, for some I guess it stays, most just mellow out like (actually probably slight less of ) the same thinking Christians. I think maybe when I was younger there was an element of rebellion from authority too, I dont suppose that is so prevalent any more.

I mean, when someone condemns pride parades, we call them homophobic... I saw that but didn't know it was a tweet. The meme has been around for a long time and makes a good point. You ask about the motivation of atheists, but we are all atheists. I don't know which god you believe in, probably Yahweh, but I'm sure there are many gods you don't believe in. Look how minority religions like Scientology, Muslims, Jews, or Mormonism are treated by Protestants, calling them cults and openly despising them. My wife is Catholic, and they are afraid of making the cross before eating in public because Protestants will charge up and scold them. I've heard firsthand stories of Catholics being accosted by Protestants and told they are idol worshippers and going to hell. I used to work with a guy who is one of the nicest people you could meet, unless you're Catholic. He hates Catholics and spews vitriol constantly toward them while at work. So, if you want to understand atheists, go look in the mirror, examine the religion you serve, and find your answer. The atheists that you accuse of "spitting" on Christians are doing what Christians do to everyone else. "...whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he reap...,"
