I read your opinion on the movie and that placement seemed to fit. It's probably too kind a ranking as is. The more I think about it, the worse that movie gets. But there were times with Neill/Dern/Goldblum that had me thinking "this is the JP sequel I wanted all the way back in 1997".

None of the sequels are good imo, but there are aspects of The Lost World and Fallen Kingdom that I like a lot. Jurassic Park III and Jurassic World, not so much.
Fallen Kindom is one of the strangest movie experiences I have ever had. The first half is terrible, but I really like the second half.

Fallen Kindom is one of the strangest movie experiences I have ever had. The first half is terrible, but I really like the second half. I thought the first half of FK was okay, but the second half is so bizarre and insane I can't help but admire it. The first JW had two things going for it: seeing the park fully functioning and operational, and the undercurrent of meta self parody. III is mercifully short and I think Grant/Neill is a natural fit for the lead in these movies. TLW has a couple of individual scenes I like, but it's too long, simultaneously hippie dippie and mean spirited, and I can't stand the characters. But yeah, none are very good.

I mostly really like the technical stuff in The Lost World. The basic story is okay, but I agree the characters are not likeable. Jeff Goldblum doesn't even seem to be playing the same character in it. The little girl is annoying and the gymnastics scene might be the dumbest scene in the entire franchise. It is still overall a thrilling movie imo. The movie consists of a series of great scenes if you ignore the some of the annoying story elements. The dinosaur round-up scene, The raptors in the tall grass scene, Peter Storemare's death scene, the first T-Rex scene, the trailer over the cliff scene and the scene where the T-Rex is wandering around the suburbs. The reason I like the second half of Fallen Kingdom so much is for the exact reason you mention.

I saw it again the other day and I don't think Malcolm mentions chaos theory once. It's weird enough to make the bit comic relief character the star of your sequel (imagine Randy being the star of Scream 2 and Sidney not even being mentioned), but then to rewrite him to where he's nearly unrecognizable, I still don't get it. The daughter sucks, but even worse are Sarah the clueless scientist that walks around a predator jungle drenched in blood, and Vince Vaughn playing a bigger psycho than Norman Bates. Every death in the movie is his fault. The trailer scene rules, yeah. Those T Rexes love cliffs.

I'm one of the few who genuiely really likes The Lost World, so I'm glad to see you at least like that part. I've seen it many many times (Including a couple weeks ago) and for me it's still one of the most thrilling and intense scenes ever.

I mean the Vince Vaughn stuff. The performances in the movie just aren't interesting is my main problem. Are we sure the movie isn't painting Vince Vaughn's character in a bad light purposely?

Spiderhead - 3/10
Kosinski is still my boy, but this movie was bad. It’s just not a good story.

I think the movie creepy and I was very involved for the majority of it. It falls apart in the last 20 minutes though. I think it is a very well-made movie (I especially like the art direction), with gripping performances. I see it as a sci-fi/thriller/dark comedy. Love the '80s soundtrack too.

Nah, he's definitely a protagonist. The whole movie has a "save the dinos" message and he's the guy going around protecting them, at the expense of the human characters we're not supposed to be too invested in.

Okay, then the movie can be watched as pro-dinosaur at the expense of humans. All the humans in the movie are unlikable, so it kind of works. Give the Earth back to the dinosaurs.

I liked the cinematography in general, but I found most of the performances lacking and the soundtrack did nothing for me. Granted, I’m not a big 80s music guy so that’s certainly why.

The Batman - 8/10 Turning Red - 7.5/10 Scream - 7/10 Uncharted - 7/10 Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore - 6.5/10 Texas Chainsaw Massacre - 5.5/10 I don't know if you remember this, but there was a thread a while back asking for examples of movies by directors that don't seem like the other movies they have made. You mentioned Starman for John Carpenter and I said you were wrong. I just re-watched Starman and you were actually right. It has certain scenes that are very much John Carpenter, but the movie as a whole isn't. It feels more like Spielberg lite with some John Carpenter moments mixed in. Story-wise the movie has a lot in common with E.T. If I didn't know who directed Starman and someone told me it was directed by a relatively well-known director and to guess, I would probably have guessed Joe Dante.

I am almost positive it was you, but I could be wrong.

That was the only thread I could find in my post history that talked about that movie, but sometimes they don't show all posts when searching keywords for whatever reason (case in point when I tried to find THIS thread so I can update my first post but now I have it bookmarked thanks to you bumping). So maybe it was me, just on another thread.

The Fallout sounds interesting and I like Jenna Ortega.
I didn't even know they were doing a new Beavis and Butthead movie. I never watched the show but I liked the first one. I don't have Paramount + though.

I don't have Paramount + though.I don't care for the TV show, but I mostly like the first movie. My issue with Beavis & Butt-head is they get old very quickly, so while it doesn't work as a TV show it does work in movie form. Part of the reason I don't care for the TV show is because I dislike the parts of each episode where they are just sitting on the couch watching music videos and commenting on them. The original was a satire about the MTV generation. I like the new one more because it has to do with science fiction ideas, such as time travel, multiverses and space and is satirizing current media and some cultural stuff. The funniest scene in the movie is when Beavis & Butt-Head accidentally stroll into a gender studies class on a college campus. Like the first movie this one also has to do with a series of misunderstandings. In this case NASA in 1998 think that Beavis & Butt-head are space docking geniuses and train them to go to a mission in space in which they accidentally get sucked into a black hole and end up in 2022, which says more about the incompetence of the government than it does about Beavis & Butt-Head. Jenny Ortega gives a fantastic performance in The Fallout. I don't care for her in Scream, but I like her in X and obviously the Fallout. I am now looking forward to Tim Burton's Wednesday Addams mini-series, which Ortega stars as the title character.

Yeah, I suppose I never sought it out like I did the South Park show because I figured the joke would get old. And them narrating videos was probably more cutting edge in the pre-youtube era. That plot also reminds me a bit of Idiocrasy. I thought she was pretty good in Scream. Easily the best performance besides maybe Arquette. I didn't really care for her in Babysitter 2 or You, but now I'm thinking it was the writing. I hated her in X, which I think means she did her job perfectly. It's so against her usual roles.
