Question: Of I recall correctly, Riddler said something about coming across the dirty books for the Renewal Fund, so we can infer that's how he knew about the corruption surrounding the fund and about the many hands in the cookie jar. But now did he know who the stool pigeon was? Shrek that info wasn't in any financial documents. Perhaps they explained it and I missed it.

It’s well made, the action is great, and the acting is enjoyable.
I didn’t care
I’m sorry, it’s boring, the riddles weren’t clever and didn’t go anywhere, Pattinson is cool as Batman but Bruce sucks, and the big twist plot of Riddlers to drown the city comes completely out of left field. Why is the city beneath the waterline? And why wasn’t this established so that this could feel like some sort of payoff. It ended up as a giant,,, “WHAT?”
IDK there’s just no fist pumping moment or feeling of satisfaction anywhere. It just feels like somebody made a streaming service Batman show that we binged in a theater. And the fact that it’s simply too soon for yet another reboot is a huge part of why I don’t care about this. I’m not invested. And unless they get some adrenaline in this series tomorrow, I’ll have no chance of caring about DC’s lead until yet another reboot.

(I particularly like the idea of Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, though in-film he never blew me away—maybe because of the material he had to work with?) But I think that movie would require a writer who’s better at plot mechanics and dialogue.

I'm a bit split about this movie. It's almost like for every one thing I enjoyed, there was an equal counterpart that irritated me. For example:
1. I really liked Pattinson as Batman but I thought he was the worst movie-version Bruce Wayne we've ever seen. 2. Zoe Kravitz looked and moved great as Catwoman, but she didn't speak or act with any of the self-assured, sultry sassiness that is a trademark of the character. 3. I loved that they finally showcased Batman's detective skills which is something I've been wanting to see for a long time, but having 3 hours worth of slow-burn clue hunting made this movie very dragging at times. 4. Batman's slow, methodical and heavy way of moving (like his boots clanking as he walked and just the overall exaggerated "weight" of his movements) gave him a very menacing presence which I loved, but a part of me was screaming in frustration that they made Batman more like Robocop than the super ninja that he's supposed to be. 5. The action choreography was pretty solid but there were far too few of them interspersed in a 3-hr long movie. And while the action was miles better than the one in the TDK trilogy, it still can't match the BvS Warehouse fight which is what I was hoping it to be. 6. The visuals were great and you truly got a good feel of the depressing nature of Gotham. At the same time, the audio/score was ridiculously loud and unnecessary at times which added to the feeling of the movie just wearing you out as it went. 7. Every scene was solidly made and I can't think of a single scene that I can consider weak. But I also can't think of a single scene that was truly breathtaking or memorable. No fist-pumping, adrenaline-rushing, iconic scene comes to mind.
So in the end, there's a lot of great stuff I can praise in this movie but also a lot of criticisms that stopped it from being a great movie in my book. I'd say it's a good, solid movie but can't really go higher than that. To be honest, I'd rank MOS higher than it.

I don't really get the good Batman/bad Bruce complaint I've been seeing. The character we see in the movie is so consumed with vengeance and his nightly activities that there isn't a difference. If you want to see him bounce around being a playboy, we'll probably get there eventually - seems part of his arc - but the character isn't there yet by design.

As you know, I have quite a few complaints about this movie, but, yeah, a “good Batman/bad Bruce” isn’t one of them.

I thought Pattison take on Bruce Wayne made sense. He's young and in two years of his "career" as Batman.
I am curious to see where Reeves goes with the character in the next film.

Because there's a duality between Batman and Bruce Wayne. If the guy is brooding and vengeful all the time then he's basically just playing Batman all the time. In other words, he never really played Bruce Wayne, just Batman without the mask. The whole reason why Batman is able to maintain his secret identity is because Bruce Wayne and Batman are very different. If they were extremely similar, then the concept of a secret identity flies out the window.

I'm hoping in the sequels we see him getting smarter about obscuring his true self and becoming spoiled playboy Bruce Wayne in public.

But until that time comes, then calling his portrayal of Bruce Wayne as bad is still a valid criticism. I tend to base my criticisms on what a movie shows currently rather than what they might be building towards to in the hopeful future.

Saw it today. I thought it was a very good film but overtime it went from being a 9/10 to a 8/10 for me.
I thought Batman as a character is probably the best live action Batman so far. Didn't get for the Bruce Wayne but an excellent Batman. Action was very good, as was Riddler, the atmosphere etc.
I just feel like it was a bit too long. I'm not sure how long it actually was without the credits but if it had been 20 to 30 mins shorter, if they could have made that work then it's have been a 9/10 for me and a Top 3 Batman movie.

I don’t think there’s much duality with Michael Keaton’s portrayal. His Bruce Wayne is portrayed as an oddball who doesn’t really know how to function in proper social settings.

Yes he wears the costume but his confidence transcends it.

Only because he's Michael Keaton. I don't know if the citizens of Gotham have seen Mr Mom or Beetlejuice. I actually think Pattinson is the closest to his portrayal - they both play him as a socially awkward weirdo, which works for me because you really believe this guy is eccentric enough to dress up like a bat. But anyway, they say repeatedly that this Bruce is a recluse, so it's not like his secret identity is really at stake when people hardly see the guy. I get we want the juxtaposition between this and the playboy act, but like I said, they make it a point that he's not doing enough as Bruce Wayne. At the end, he comes out during the day and starts helping people, so I do think that's gonna be the start of him being a more social Bruce.

Was about to post this in its own thread. Personally I hate this Joker. He’s literally just imitating Heath Ledger. Some of the dialogue is even similar: Ahead of the curve, you’re too much fun. Makes me wish Heath could’ve survived to make this exact scene in TDKR instead. Also, I really HATE this look. Worst Joker design I’ve ever seen. Glad it was cut. I hope he isn’t the main villain in the sequel.
