Angels reporting Anthony Rendon is having season ending surgery. 155 games played in three years, .252 ba, 20 hr's. For $88,714,286. And another $154,300,000 owed. This is not looking like a great free agent signing Remember that one time a huge contract worked in the team’s favor? Yeah, me neither.

Amazingly, both players got the exact same contract - 7 years, $245m. Just an odd quirk of circumstance. Since the WS run, Strasburg has made 8, count 'em 8, starts. He's got a 1-4 record for whatever that is worth, but he's pitched to a 6.89 ERA, a 1.56 WHIP, 4.9 BB/9 (double his career rate), his 8.0 K rate is a full 2 Ks below his career line. This guy eats a tainted burrito and he's on the shelf for 9 months. Fucking brutal.

OT, from my Facebook memories. My first major league baseball game was a bat day doubleheader at the old old Yankee Stadium vs the Twins June 20, 1965, Father's Day. Kids in front of me got bats "signed" by Mantle, Berra, Maris, Pepitone. I got Buddy Barker. My dad's seat was behind a pole and under the bleachers in right field. We got to move after a while. Harmon Killebrew hit 2 HR and Roger Maris hit one. Dad missed Maris' HR, which nearly got all the way out to us, because he was passing a hot dog to somebody. We all raised our bats to Maris when he went out to play right field. Yanks lost both games. I tried to use the Buddy Barker bat for a few years, but it was too heavy and long. It ended up being the weapon we kept in the front closet, just in case. Apparently Barker hit a HR in game 2, and Killebrew had a ground rule double over the 457 sign, according to Bob Ryan and Killebrew.

It was obvious during the 2018 season that he was starting to break down. The injuries were starting and he was losing velocity. He had another year on his contract. The Sox should have taken a "lets see" stance for 2019 and then talk. If he walked, so be it. Yet they gave him another $145,000,000. And for what? 11-12 with 34 starts. He will never be the pitcher he was.
I can kind of see the Strasburg situation. He was the face of the Nats turnaround. They lost Harper in 2019 and they didn't want to lose Strasburg also. Fan pressure can make a club so stupid things.

Don Mattingly refuses to come out of the dugout to defend Jazz Chisholm after a terrible strike call until after Jazz is ejected, it shows Mattingly doesn’t like Jazz (something which has been widely talked about in local media), it’s more proof we need to get rid of Mattingly, he’s a pitiful manager.

I don't know what's going on yet I've been voting Jazz on my all-star ballot. I'm ranking my nominees by OPS, & whenever I can avoid chalk players I like to.

Yankees-Jays wkend... litmus test for how summertime standings shape up. At least Toronto is feeling locked into a WC spot. lols series over. Best case, now the Jays have their work cut out for them. They surely won't be treating the summer like a vacation now, they'll try to punch through putting the hammer down more than a few innings a game. Ross will be finding a new starter, Ryu's gone & Stripling's out of the pen into the rotation. Nate Pearson will be a good reliever weapon soon, yet the rotation will need a boost - even if it's an older innings eater. I think Moreno needs to be handed starting catcher role, stunting him with too many off days will only hurt him & the team. Danny Jansen is back soon, not good enough to compete with Kirk's bat for C or DH. Trade him even if he's a solid bench guy. These Yankees are on an historic run now, their starting ERA is practically a video game number. I feel like November's headline could be '2022, the year we all waited for Judge's injury, only to see his ring shine in our faces'.

Sandy Alcantara picks up another win for the Fishies, pitching 8 innings once again and giving up 2 runs. He’s pitching better than anyone in MLB right now, and he should be starting the All Star Game.

They’re fairly neck and neck, but Sandy is certainly deserving. Pretty great game for the rookie Encarnacion today, getting his first big league hit - a grand slam that put the Marlins ahead - and gunned down Tomas Nido trying to stretch a single with a laser beam from the right field corner. Not too shabby.

Nate Pearson out again now with a shoulder injury at Buffalo.
Jays end the Yanks winning streak in style. Let's see how they do with a 15 game lead for weeks & weeks... let them implode.

Getting a World Series win when they pissed down their leg for decades felt like a win immediately to me.

Coors is a house of horrors for San Diego - - nine straight losses there. Going to my first Padres game on Thursday and now it looks like there won't be Tatis or Machado - - and Musgrove has COVID.

Yay I'm going to the Astros - Mets double header on the 29th! My first time back at Citi Field in 3 years. Hell yeah dude! Those should be great games too. So during the broadcast last night, the Mets broadcasting team was talking about Yordan Alvarez and how amazing he is. I think he might actually the least appreciated superstar at this time, outside of Houston anyway. I know, I say that about everyone, but this guy is a legit stud. Coming into today, he has played a total of 290 games and has 150 extra-base hits. Apparently that's the most XBH in the fewest amount of games since Ted Williams. I realize it's cherry-picking to come up with stats like that, but it does give you an idea of how talented a hitter he is, to say nothing of the fact that he has notoriously bad knees which must hinder him in some way. He's got a .963 career OPS and 159 OPS+. What's really impressive is how much he has cut his strike out rate down this year. Last year, he had 145 in 144 games; this year, he's whiffed 38 times in 57 games, nearly cutting that rate in half. That's growth. He'll turn 25 years old next week. Just imagine the results when he enters his prime... He shares a birthday with Jim Edmonds, Tobey McGuire and myself.

Several Jays in all-star voting contention... I've been stuffing the ballot myself, yet the likes of Kirk & Espinal are having tremendous springs & deserve the look.
