So this films joins these other films being banned in China Frankenstein (1931) Ben-Hur (1959) Back to the Future (1985) Babe: Pig in the City (1998) The Da Vinci Code (2006) The Dark Knight (2008) Joker (2019) Are we going to just allow China to rule the debate in this forum and tell us what's acceptable? The Chinese Government abuses human rights and this censorship is just another example of that. This wasn't just banned in China, it was banned in 14 different countries. Again, I'm not saying being LGBTQ is wrong (heck, my wife is fully bi) but let's at least be honest enough to admit that it isn't the norm and is nowhere near as mainstream as social media might make it seem. You put a lesbian/gay kissing scene in a children's movie, there's definitely going to be consequences. What facts? We're arguing over language. This is getting stupid. How am I supposed to debate you when there's almost 200 counties in the world, but you're fixated with less than 20 that banned the film. Also Bohemian Rhapsody needed to be edited so it has nothing to do with the film being connected to children.

Just realized one thing: the same-sex kiss is a major anachronism! The movie is supposed to have been made in 1995. There is no way in hell that a movie for kids made in 1995 would feature a same-sex couple. Not in The United State. Sailor Moon was airing on television with a lesbian couple by this point.

Disney probably loves all of us arguing about this to distract us from the fact that it’s a bomb at the box office thus far.

If your happiness is dependent on a movie’s success or failure, re-evaluate your life. No, it's just one aaspect.

You were simply using your terminologies incorrectly. There's nothing to argue about there. We are not talking about Bohemian Rhapsody, I have no idea why you'd bring that up. Why do you keep trying to change the topic? Bottom line is that LGBTQ acceptance is gaining a lot of traction but it is still nowhere near as mainstream and common as you'd like to believe. Those are facts. Argue with me as much as you want, it won't change the facts.

What kind of rights do common people even have over there? And you just say things that aren't true and call me pointing that out changing the subject. I don't know if you have some kind of imagine that The Chinese Government is trying to protect kids or something by censoring this film. No, they censor all types of films with homosexuality. I don't know if you believe most people get to be a part of The Communist Party or something but that isn't true. If China is the bar we're setting than that puts a whole lot of rights that on the table.

I would think it makes sense for any movie to reflect society, pretending some people don't exist to please religiously backwards fanatics, is not a good way to go. Who the hell cares about Religion in 2022?
And Disney movies for kids are only aimed to make kids enjoey the movie. It's pure entertainment.
Nobody wants their kids to go to watch movies that try to appease to social minorities only for the sake of it.
The bottom line is: gay people are an extremely small minority, the "norm" is being heterosexual. It seems some gay people still didn't get this.
A minority should not be ignored, it should be represented to roughly the same percentage to which it appears in society. so. that would be about 5% (ish) of all characters should be gay.

No, the minority shouldn't be represented in kids movies because there's no need for that at all. The movies are entertainment- People don't give a single crap about social problems when they go watch movies. Let the kids enjoy the movies- This is NOT helping at all gay people, on the contrary.

It's 2022 and they're asking for a same sex kiss to be cut out of a movie. Get the fuck outta here, man.
lol are you new to wonderful world of Islam? I'm sorry for coming across as being a condescending prick but it should come to no surprise at all that all of those Muslim dominated countries would ban this movie over just a brief kiss on the cheek involving two women (animated or not). Women have been treated worse than cattle & livestock in the Middle East since the beginning of time and don't even get me started on how they treat gay people.

It's also ridicuously arrogant of you to be so dissmisive of the cultures of these 14 countries. I may not agree with all of their rules and regulations, but then again every country has their own pros and cons. Heck, at least most of these countries aren't as politically divided as the US, certainly don't have as many mass shootings. And I don't think you understand how numbers and populations work. China alone comprises 18% of the world population. India another 18%. Both of these countries are not quite open to LGBTQ relationships (though India has been opening up a bit more and hasn't banned Lightyear). Then you add other more populous countries like Pakistan, indonesia, Nigeria, Philippines, UAE, Nigeria, Egypt, Russia... all of which are countries where LGBTQ relationships aren't quite welcomed with open arms... and you'll realize just how NOT mainstream LGBTQ relationships are yet. Not on a world-scale. It's a good thing to fight for LGBTQ rights, I do to, but you'll completely suck at it if you're not willing to face facts.

I'm not surprised. I just think it's lame that mainstream acceptance of homosexuality continues to be stalled long past the expiration date of its taboo because the world is full of pussies. It's not like there's something in the water in the west that makes people gay. Homosexuality exists in those countries too. I don't know who they're trying to kid.
edit: Man how stoned did I get last night? I could have sworn this thread was on a different board...

Do you just say things and expect it to make sense in the conversation we're having? Like I said that's setting the bar low. I don't accept that's where we should be setting the bar. And if we do than nothing is really "mainstream".

Are all of these considered a "low bar" in your eyes?

And its been widely known for decades now, that innocent Muslims get thrown to their death off of rooftops if they are found out to be gay. That's actually if they're lucky. A lot of times they are tortured to death, stoned to death or burned alive. Homosexuality is an absolute death sentence in every single Muslim dominated countries all over the Middle East. To even state like you did in your post that countries like Pakistan " aren't quite welcomed with open arms" is an understatement. So I think its actually you that is the one that isn't willing to face the facts.

I have, and while some of them are indeed fairly hostile to homosexuals, some of them aren't. Just that they aren't that comfortable with them either. There's varying shades of grey here, so maybe be very careful next time when painting with a broad brush, especially when it seems like you're getting your info from some kind of islamophobic stereotype. I mean, burned to death? Jeeze dude, which movie are you getting these from? It probably happens from time to time but it's far, far from commonplace. Children getting shot in US schools is probably more common nowadays than gays/lesbians getting outright killed for homosexual relationships in these Islamic countries.
