I’m sure most of the media was expecting Hillary Clinton to cruise past President Donald Trump in the election, but fortunately it didn’t happen. Two obvious examples were HOMELAND and SUPERGIRL. HOMELAND’s major plot revolved around the transition period for a new woman president. SUPERGIRL had a big episode about their new woman president, whom Supergirl practically slobbered over, concluding with “Who would have even voted for that other guy, anyway?” There was no time for shows to react to the unexpected election results early in the year, but toward the end of the season the cheap pot shots specifically aimed at Trump were obvious.
The most popular plotline this season was that a “far right” or “right-wing” or “ultra-conservative” or “alt-right” group would hatch a plan to achieve power by pulling off a terrorist act and framing innocent Muslims for it. That plot was used in HOMELAND, QUANTICO, DESIGNATED SURVIVOR, and even HAWAII FIVE-O (the latter seemed like a last-minute change, as the plot had a Gitmo detainee warn McGarrett about the plot. But how would he even have known about it if his countrymen weren’t behind it?) But the anti-conservative attacks became more vehement after the election of Trump. Here are some examples:
HOMELAND ‘s bizarre storyline had a conservative talk show host creating fake new and protesters chanting, “She’s not my president.” In short, they showed conservatives using liberal tactics on the liberal president.
QUANTICO - clearly the worst offender; their last nine shows seemed to have been a tailor-made attack on Trump. After 2 seasons of bouncing around in timelines between training sessions and missions in all their episodes, suddenly they became focused on only one plotline – the ultra-conservative Speaker of the House Henry Roarke who bankrolled not one, but two terrorist attacks making it look like radical Muslims had done it. I forget how the President was taken out of the picture, but the liberal female VP became President and was forced to resign when she was exposed for illegally using the CIA to spy on Americans (which she had actually done, by the way.) Speaker Roarke then became President and proposed a new Continental Congress which was done in 100 days (yeah, right). When he announced this, the team speculates, “He’ll turn the Constitution into something we won’t recognize.” Naturally, it was never specified what that meant. What were they afraid he might propose – laws protecting the unborn, perhaps? Clarification of the right to own a gun? Vouchers for students to pick what public school they would like to attend? If you’re discussing people turning the Constitution into something we wouldn’t recognize, try checking out rulings by those Supreme Court Justices appointed by Democratic presidents.
Anyway, Roarke proposes a new amendment to the Constitution. Again, we’re not told what it is – only that it will supposedly make Americans give up their freedoms. After the team tries to blackmail the four people on the fence about the amendment to vote against it, they are foiled when Roarke just appoints 4 replacements for them. So they launch a last minute scheme to have Russian agents call and ask him to change one word in the amendment and then they record the conversation. They play the recording on the big screen right after he makes his motion to change the one word (“safety” to “security”, by the way) and then Alex illegally transmits secret information they stole about him to the Internet. Roarke commits suicide and the team trots off like they are big heroes for having done all this.
CHICAGO JUSTICE – the final episode (of the series, as it turns out) trotted out millionaire builder Frank Linden accused of murder after one of his buildings collapses onto his son-in-law. Much is made out of the fact that he declared bankruptcy four times in the past and he often talked about how many people he hired (sound familiar?) To goad him into taking the stand when he doesn’t have to, lead character Stone goes to his party and then publicly trashes him. Oddly, his biggest comment is that people only like him because he has money and he’d be nothing if he didn’t. So, why would they not like him if he was poor – because of his heritage? Because he wasn’t rich? Sound quite judgmental to me. Naturally, Linden takes the bait and the stand and is destroyed by a 30 year old thesis he wrote, which he could easily have dismissed as youthful thinking but instead feels compelled to defend. I’m glad this show got cancelled.
SUPERGIRL – When Earth is invaded by another planet, “Queen of all media” Cat Grant returns to Central City to try to mediate a truce. “If I can broker peace between Kanye West and Taylor Swift I can handle this crisis,” she boasts. President Lynda Carter has Air Force One flown right into the war zone, prompting more fawning praise from Supergirl. But the actions recklessly get Air Force One shot down, killing all aboard but Cat, whom Supergirl pulls out of the sky in the nick of time. The President survives too because it turns out she’s an alien, and plane crashes don’t affect her. “At least tell me you’re still a Democrat,” says an annoyed Cat after she sees Carter transform into her alien self. The fact that she’s an alien born on another planet who never revealed it and is therefore a totally illegitimate president is completely ignored. When Cat makes an announcement to the people to resist the aliens (as if they all needed her to tell them that) she says, “Don’t be fooled by someone claiming to make this country great again,” an absurd statement as the aliens strictly used strong-arm tactics and weapons to take over. That line was there for one obvious reason. Just as QUANTICO’s finale was entitled “Resistance”, the same term used for the movement by the left to try to undermine Trump’s legitimate Presidency, this episode was entitled “Resist.”
LAW & ORDER – SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT – Not to be left out, this show’s finale featured a hate crime attack on a Muslim family. When a Mexican is accused of the crime, one character says that all Mexicans are liars and rapists, “just ask the President.” (Trump never said all Mexicans were rapists, just some of the ones who entered the country illegally.) When a female character gets angry about radical Muslims and the LGBT communities, Olivia looks shocked. “Where did all this hatred come from?” she asks in amazement. Barba sanctimoniously tells her. “It was always there. They just feel empowered now.” ICE agents were made one of the villains of the piece, by arresting a material witness despite protests from Detective Carisi standing right next to him. According to the law, you can only ask someone for their papers if they are doing something illegal first, But this man was singled out just for standing near a protest and then running when he saw the agents. He was then ordered to produce his papers on the spot or be arrested. Further, he was deported and shipped out of the country in less than 24 hours. Ludicrous!
And this is just what I saw in shows that I watch. I can’t imagine what crap they were dishing out in shows like THE SIMPSONS or FAMILY GUY. Nor can I imagine how much Trump hatred they’ll be cooking up for next season’s shows.

SVU definitely lost 'subtle' from their vocabulary. Chicago Justice, honestly I didn't make the connection, I was too distracted by the fact they got a guy who looks like the BTK Killer to BE the killer.

I was about to say good but the examples don't really correlate with the point.
These are just normal examples of political corruption or basic storylines.
Trump is his own special kind of idiot although Law &Order has always done their ripped from the headlines stories.

Funny, I thought the entire 2016 presidential campaign season was an entire Trump lovefest. As in all the coverage given to Trump between the news channels.

I've never watched any of these shows, nor am I American, but I guess these writers recognise that some of you idiots voted for the candidate that sounds like my drunk uncle.

Your drunk uncle would probably make a more respectable president than the one the U.S. elected. He probably has the same amount of political experience already.

It's ridiculous, I don't watch shows like that for political propaganda.

Is calling people you disagree with "idiots" supposed to show you're less of a drunk than your uncle?

Is calling people you disagree with "idiots" supposed to show you're less of a drunk than your uncle? Well I could go into more detail, but there was nothing intellectual about his election campaign. Nothing. How people couldn't recognise he was winging it the entire time is beyond me. He sounded like a general running for office in the Congo. The guy is a baboon, a disaster from start to finish.

I think its just coincidence.
Even in 2004 House had a Trump like character ( Edward Vogler) a totalitarian Billionaire who wanted to run a Hospital as a business and If he didn't get what he wanted he fired that person and that was long before Trump was elected.
These shows are just coincidences, you are seeing a Trump critique in every show just because he is in the hot seat. I'm sure Vogler wasn't thought as a Trump like guy but because Trump is the new president I'm now seeing Vogler as Donald Trump running a hospital instead of the White House

Hmm, again, you're not doing yourself any favors. You thinking he is a baboon (one who succeeded, though), is not a good reason to call people you disagree with "idiots" unless you want to prove you're a baboon yourself. Wonder what Clinton sounded like...

What? When did this happen? In 2016. Trump was all over the media. He was, but everything was negative. It was seriously the exact opposite of what was said. Where was the 'lovefest'?

The poster specifically mentions where the lovefest is:
It may not have been positive, but the media was all over him. That's what he meant by lovefest. It was an obsession. An obsession of mockery, but an obsession none the less.
