Live and love. Be more like these guys... What a wonderful video! I usually bottle-feed baby kittens that have been 'dumped', but a few days ago a new challenge dropped into my lap - a baby goat, just a week old, who didn't get mama's colostrum. His little sister did not survive, despite veterinary intervention, and this little guy was very sick with Enterotoxemia. He appeared to be blind, and the farmers who owned him couldn't spend the money on just one baby that would go on to have issues. They were going to put him down, but I asked to have him; we went back to the vet, changed meds and dewormed him, and I have been feeding him his bottle every four hours for several days now. He is stronger and has gained a little weight, his temperature has gone down and some of his symptoms have resolved. He got another booster of meds yesterday at the vet's office, and though he is still not out of the woods entirely, his chances have improved! It is cold here now, so he stays in my living room in a crate with wood shavings and a soft bed. He's made friends with both my small Spaniel and my Australian Shepherd, and the cats just go on with their activities and roll their eyes - yet another mouth to feed, they think, lol! They are used to my rescue activities, having been rescues themselves. He is a doll! And he likes his new dog friends! Here is a stock photo that looks like him!

How many people on here love and care for animals, yet eat them? I am vegetarian and Fr. Jack is vegan.

How many people on here love and care for animals, yet eat them? I grew up on a farm. We took great care of our animals then ate their children. We didn't tell them though, that would be cruel.

I am vegetarian and Fr. Jack is vegan. Nice to hear. There are too many hypocrites around regarding animals. I would call it inconsistency rather than hypocrisy.

I grew up on a farm. We took great care of our animals then ate their children. We didn't tell them though, that would be cruel. So the cruelty gets acknowledged, albeit in a facetious manner. Therefore, it is not born out of care for the animals because there was a more devious agenda at hand. These animals were bred to be eaten...even some of the cats and dogs I daresay. If we stop eating beef and dairy entirely, then there is no reason for cows to be around. They are too big and expense to keep as pets, so we can let them go extinct or put some of them in petting zoos. Human dentation clearly indicates we are an omnivorous species. It has been theorized that once ancient humans learned to cook the meat, that's what accelerated the evolution to modern humans. As our jaws no longer had to be robust to chew raw meat, our DNA reprogrammed that bone and muscle tissue up to the top of the head to accommodate the rapidly growing forehead caused by all that extra protein.

Was this a Catholic high school.

Animals are lucky to be eaten by humans. We generally take good care of them, treat their wounds and diseases, allow them to breed and proliferate, and we kill them swiftly. Sure, in the wild they would have freedom ... freedom to starve, freedom to suffer, freedom to watch their babies eaten by predators.
Then there are hyenas which eat prey ass first while it is alive.

Not as much as you think. We warehouse now instead of letting them be animals, they are food machines. This... ...is not this.

Yeah, you definitely have a very good point there, Sarge: When it comes to being food for someone, far better to be eaten by humans than it is by most other animal species on Earth, as we kill our food first (humanely as possible), whereas practically all the others eat their prey while they are still alive.

I've visited chicken farms and seen it first hand, it was so bad I didn't eat eggs again for about 15 years.

If the fat world, that's us, would simply cutback on the amount of garbage food we eat, we can have reasonably priced beef and chicken products by just buying as much local as possible. Truck farming was the norm when I was a kid. I wish we could do more local sourcing. A lot of the supermarket chains are doing some of that. I frequent the farmers' markets when they open up in the summer and they have several local ranchers/butchers who sell out of refrigerated trucks. It is very good tasting too.

Cows give us milk for dairy products. Why keep disgusting and arrogant carnivores like you around? What use do you serve? I'm speaking hypothetically. I like meat and dairy, but we got come to terms with the good times being over.
