Same for online as well. I still like physical media and still think it has its place. It also still has advantages over streaming. Though it's likely 4K may be the last physical disc way we'll have to watch a movie.
But this certainly marks the end of an era and a sad state of affairs for people into physical media. I remember going into Best Buy stores and seeing rows and isles of DVDs when I was younger.

Yeah, in the 2000's I bought most of my DVD's and later blu rays there. Sad days. I much prefer physical media.

The last time I was at Fry's (a few years before they closed altogether), they were phasing out their DVD/Blu-ray selection.

Not surprised. Most of my physical media purchases have come from amazon because the stores here never have what I want or what they have that I like, I already own. It's not just best buy. Target also announced they're getting rid of physical media except for books and vinyl records. But the selection at these stores and walmart have been crap for the past 3-4 years. When Best Buy had an exclusive steelbook for "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" in 4k, my local best buy never even got it in. When Jurassic Park Dominion came out last year, My Local Walmart never got it in even though they had a display for it. There are 2 discount stores near me. One called "The Half off Store" which is 17 miles from here and another one called "Total Liquidators", which I have locally. They both only sell items from Target that didn't sell at Target. The Half off Store had the Target exclusive 4k edition of "Toy Story 4" for $3.. still brand new.

Not surprising sadly as our local BB was low in physical media stock last time we checked. The prices for DVDs and Blu-rays now are getting pretty outrageous which may be another factor in not enough people purchasing them.

Not surprised. The selection at Best Buy and Wal-Mart has been absolute shit for a while now.

Any so called movie fan that doesn’t buy movies they like on physical media is shameful

Im all for physical media. Streaming may be convenient but I like owning the actual film. Crappy move for Best Buy.

Gee, I wonder why piracy is a thing.

Could this potentially hurt Best Buy for sales? One of the reasons Best Buy was so successful was because of buying movies on disc. Same with music CDs when they had them.
But without movies on disc and music CDs, Best Buy will just sell TVs, phones, laptops, tablets, and even appliances. But given how expensive these things are, along with wanting expensive products to last, people don't regularly buy these things. And they certainly don't want to buy them over and over again since they're expensive.

I feel like Best Buy did this here in Canada years ago now, other than a handful of 4K/3D new releases, to help add-on with new tv's.
I've been comfortably buying my DVDs/Blus via Amazon since about 2015, well priced & quick shipped for the most part.

That's a bummer. I just picked up the Die Hard 5 pack Blu-ray collection from there for $8. Never saw the fifth one but I may as well now.

Was just there getting a TV last week and their selection was almost non-existent, and now this announcement. That's cool, I still support a local shop that sells DVDs and lots of other related stuff, and I know of a very good website here in Canada that use when I can't find it on the shelf. Some of the Walmarts seem to be downsizing in this department too.

Best Buy might be onto something only selling high dollar products. I’ve gone though 4 refrigerators since 2009 when I bought a house. Meanwhile my parents still have the same Whirlpool they bought back in 1989.

You know how in horror there's sometimes that person that foresees doom and tries to warn the future victims? I'm that guy, telling you now to not see A Good Day To Die Hard.

There's a BB about two miles from my office that I'll hit every so often at lunch, I was in just before Christmas and their entire selection was down to one of those sections of shelves. And it was fairly sparse, not close to being full.

And it was fairly sparse, not close to being full. I know right? That's how it is with Best Buy now. It used to be when there was a movie coming to dvd/blu-ray that I wanted, I'd just go to the nearest Best Buy to pick it up and if they didn't have it for whatever reason, I'd go to Target. Now I just get it on Amazon because it's pretty much 99% assured that neither store will have it.
