I mix up Creighton and Marquette too many times. For me, it's Providence and Seton Hall. No idea why, but I always get them mixed up. Big East is tough overall because none of their teams are easy state-named schools (except Uconn)

And Creighton in the Missouri Valley Conference and Marquette in the Great Midwest or as an independent with Al McGuire coaching

A team to keep an eye on is Dayton. 15-2, haven't lost since before Thanksgiving. No really big wins, St. John's and LSU. Center DaRon Holmes is a monster, 19.5 ppg. Kind of reminding me of Florida Atlantic last year.

Some great games last night! Auburn/Alabama was entertaining with Auburn falling behind by 14 in the first half, they came back in the second and I think took the lead once or twice, but never by more than a point or two. Some controversial fouls at the end of the game, but was entertaining for sure - still think Auburn is a very good, top 10 team. Alabama is tough competition.
Similar situation in Illinois/Northwestern - Illinois a top 10 team traveling on the road to a solid opponent. This one was nuts, big shot after big shot down the streth. Boo Buie is insanely clutch at home, he knocked down some monster 3's late. Game went to overtime, and unfortunately in overtime Northwestern just ran away with it.

Another big upset as Arizona falls to Oregon State on the road. I saw on Reddit someone posted the win % for top 10 teams on the road this year, and it's like sub-50%, a huge dropoff from the previous 5 years.

Season starts in three weeks. The AP Top 25 for your amusement
A couple fun storylines
1. "The End". The last season before the conference realignment takes place. Last for Texas and OU in the XII, last for Stanford and Cal in the PAC, last for USC and UCLA in the PAC. Last of the PAC period?
2. Speaking of USC, they might have the most hyped college athlete ever in Bronny James. Yeah, his son. But Bronny had some heart issues. Hopefully he plays
3. A new day at Syracuse. For the first time since 1969, Jim Boeheim will not be on the bench for the Orange. He's been HC since Gerald Ford was president I don't envy Adrian Autry
Ed Cooley back at Providence today helming Georgetown.

Good weekend of college basketball. Top 4 hold strong - Uconn absolutely decimated Xavier. Purdue and UNC survived road tests that were closer than the final scores indicated, and Houston took care of business at home.
The top 5 will stay the same for the rankings, and then it's chaos as 6-11 all lost this week, with Oklahoma and Auburn losing twice.
This weekend has some of the best matchups we will see all year, loaded with high-ranked blue-bloods Saturday in particular: Houston @ Kansas Duke @ North Carolina Tennessee @ Kentucky Sunday - Purdue @ Wisconsin
Can not wait. My picks to win are bolded

Houston too. OT win over Texas at Texas yesterday. The teams were both gassed by the end.

What happened to "Big Monday"? Monday night used to be big in CBB, especially after the conference championships. Two decent games last night, Duke-Va Tech and Houston-Texas. Whee. But ESPN sure bent over and spread for the NBA. Fuck the NBA

Another big upset for South Carolina, knocking off Tennessee in Knoxville. Cocks are a hard team to play
And Georgia Tech beats North Carolina by one

Crazy night of basketball. Really thought both teams would get to Saturday without losing. North Carolina had a decent lead in that game too. South Carolina/Tennessee was a pretty gross game to watch. Tennessee played horrible, missing so many open layups and dunks in the first half. They left a lot of points out there.

Only caught the second half, but UNC seemed out of sorts. Just making panic passes to each other's ankles, bricking wide open shots, reaching for dumb fouls. It should be said there was absolutely a foul that should've been called on that final drive, but don't leave it up to the refs on the road against a sub-.500 team.

Agreed - it was a foul, but hard to blame that one play when they are such a far superior team. They had plenty of chances

Another wild night... Florida takes Kentucky down at home in overtime. Uconn survives Providence who pushed them, that game was closer than the final score indicated. Purdue needs overtime to beat Northwestern is a very wild game. Purdue seemed to have the game in hand in overtime 96-90 with 38 seconds left. Northwestern got a quick easy 2, fouled the inbound, and Purdue made 1 of 2 free throws to go up 5. Northwestern gets another easy and quick uncontested 2, and makes it a 3 point game in favor of Purdue 99-96 with 12 seconds left. Now is where things get weird. On the inbound, Purdue gets trapped. Purdue guard Lance Jones uses his offball hand to hook the defender, which should have been an offensive foul and given the ball back to Northwestern with a chance to tie. Instead a defensive foul was called, and Purdue made both free throws, essentially icing the game. Northwestern air balls a 3, and Northwestern's coach Chris Collins runs onto the court when the ball is still live and is irate and screaming at ref Courtney Green (notoriously horrible ref). Green throws Collins out with a second remaining, and Collins still livid leaving the arena, stops to shake Matt Painters hand and give Zach Edey a hug. Then he starts pumping up the Purdue home crowd. It was a WWE atmosphere, and incredible to watch unfold life. Never seen such an exit by a coach. I like Collins a lot as a coach. I like that he waited until the game was essentially over to blow up - he didn't cost his team anything by blowing up in the moment, when there was still some slim hope for Northwestern to win the game. He made his point and showed his players he has their back. x.com/PMTsportsbiz/status/1752875345118695491?s=20

I loved Collins as a player and now as a coach, it was hilarious to watch a quasi-meltdown where the coach gets tossed and still takes time to shake hands with the opposing coach/players as he exits. The FT disparity was unbelievable, he had a right to be pissed. Northwestern shot 8 FTs, Purdue shot 46! This is my second straight post pointing out bad officiating, but wow. And this game still went to OT!

And this game still went to OT! I think the bad officiating was way overblown. Looking at the box score, the disparity is insane, but Northwestern's plan going into the game was to contain Edey by fouling him - pregame Collins said he has 3 bigs, and plans to use the 15 fouls they have from them. Were there bad calls? Of course. There are bad calls every game. But Purdue was the team making a concerted effort to force the ball inside, and Northwestern was living by the 3 point line and jump shots. I haven't been able to find a shot chart, but I'm looking forward to seeing the shot selection by both teams. Northwestern's center attempted 2 shots, and 1 of them was a gimme dunk at the end. Edit to add: Even Northwestern fans in the game thread on Reddit were saying the officiating was not as bad as the box score indicated, it's not just my biased opinion.

To be fair, I didn't really notice it until I looked at the box score. A lot of those fouls were definitely hack-an-Edey fouls, but it's still a crazy disparity. I suppose it should also be noted that Edey's bad night at the stripe is what kept the game close in the first place, necessitating a bunch of fouls late in the game. Loved the 'cojones' celebration by the Purdue player hitting that big three late; the announcer called it the 'Pedro Cerrano celebration,' and I wondered how much of the audience got the reference.

Back-to-back days with Big Ten games going to OT - Wisconsin at Nebraska was a real thriller. Wisconsin was up by 19 at one point, but the home court Nebraska magic shined through again. Nebraska wasn't called for their first foul in the 2nd half until under 5 minutes left I think, which is nuts. There were some missed called, but I didn't think anything that decided the game - Wisconsin just went ice cold and started turning the ball over at a high clip, and Nebraska started finding their 3-point shots. The crowd energy was amazing
