Season starts in three weeks. The AP Top 25 for your amusement
A couple fun storylines
1. "The End". The last season before the conference realignment takes place. Last for Texas and OU in the XII, last for Stanford and Cal in the PAC, last for USC and UCLA in the PAC. Last of the PAC period?
2. Speaking of USC, they might have the most hyped college athlete ever in Bronny James. Yeah, his son. But Bronny had some heart issues. Hopefully he plays
3. A new day at Syracuse. For the first time since 1969, Jim Boeheim will not be on the bench for the Orange. He's been HC since Gerald Ford was president I don't envy Adrian Autry

Syracuse hasn't been great in a while. Autry isn't in the same situation that Scheyer or Hubert Davis are in. As long as he's semi-successful, he should be good.

I'd wager me and NJ are the only ones here who were alive when JB's predecessor (Roy Danforth, I had to look it up) ran the team. He coached the Cuse when they were independent, he helped create the original Big East and helped tear it down. How many coaches have meant that much to their school? Wooden. Knight. Maybe Krzyzewski (Duke had success before K).

Well, until the tournament begins anyway.
The Makers bright back their starting five from a 29 win season. Including Zach Edey, looking to be the first back to back Wooden Award winner since Ralph Sampson.
And don't forget what Virginia did the year after they were embarrassed by a #16 seed...
I sure as hell aren't picking them to go far when I make out my brackets in March

I suppose. Last year's preseason #1 was North Carolina, who didn't even make the tournament

Season begins tonight. No real huge games until Friday (Duke-Arizona) and next Tuesday (Duke-Michigan State, Kansas-Kentucky). My picks and things to watch
Final Four
Duke Marquette Houston USC
Final Game - Duke 81-68 USC
Player of the Year - Hunter Dickenson/C/Kansas Freshman of the Year - Isaiah Collier/G/USC Coach of the Year - Andy Enfield - USC
Fun Teams to Watch
Florida Atlantic - all starters back from a FF team. But a move up in conference to the American St. John's - Rick Pitino back from the dead. Can he resurrect the Red Storm Louisville - 4-28 last year? Never seen a blue blood team fall that far that fast. North Carolina - A team that had a great tournament run in 2022, no dancing in 2023. UNC has a short fuse, ask Matt Doherty UConn - Went through the NCAA like shit through a goose last year. Lost a lot and the Big East is tough Gonzaga - not much hype this year. Is the magic done? USC - Winn Bronny James play (I assume he will, but not in 2023) St. Bonaventure - go Bonnies.

My son's rec league team had the same understanding of basketball as that team did. Louisville lost to a division II school in an exhibition game the other day, that coach's seat is boiling.

My alma mater, James Madison, plays Michigan State tonight. I'm guessing that it'll be a significant win for the Spartans, but we're picked to win the Sun Belt this year and have given Virginia all they could handle each of the last two seasons.

The mess that Pitino and Chris Mack left there is amazing. They won't win 10 games this year and coach Kenny Payne, who had fuck all to do with the mess will be fired so they can hire a big name coach, probably Dusty May of Florida Atlantic.
Georgetown is another elite school who are dregs now. 13-50 the last two seasons. They did finally figure out that Patrick Ewing can't coach. Brought in Providence's Ed Cooney. But they will finish either 10th or 11th in the Big East, depending on how rotten DePaul is
And St. John's and Pitino lost an exhibition to a DII school. He might turn the Johnnies around, not this year

Dukes are #136 at kenPom, #101 at Bart Torvik. Easy schedule, no one under 119th on the schedule after the Spartans No Virginia game

Well, well, well! I think they topped it with last night's performance. James Madison basketball pulls off miracle win after shockingly erasing 5-point lead in 3.8 seconds

James Madison could be that team this season. They don't play anyone in the top 125 at KenPom until January 6th. And no one under 100 for the rest of the season. But they better win the Sun Belt tournament. That schedule won't get them an at large bid

First huge game tonight, Arizona v. Duke at Cameron Big. Hoo boy but Arizona looked good. Duke played lousy in the 1st half but very well in the 2nd. And the Cats still come out of Cameron with a win. San Diego State transfer Keshad Johnson had a great game as did Pelle Larson and Kylan Boswell. A brutal non-conference, Michigan State, Purdue, Wisconsin, Alabama and Florida Atlantic, which should toughen them up come March
