Maui Invitational Tourney going on now. Lotsa big teams, Marquette, Kansas, Purdue, Gonzaga, Tennessee...
Seems strange to watch Syracuse and not see Jimmy Boeheim. Gerald Ford was president when he started as HC.

Marquette pissbeat #1 Kansas, 73-59 in the Maui. Now Purdue and Zach "Lurch" Edey. Marquette looked good and will have a monster resume for March if they win tonight.

Marquette plays the #1 team (was Kansas) and the #2 (Purdue) on consecutive nights. First time since 1963, when Loyola of Chicago beat #2 Duke and #1 Cincinnati to win the NCAA Tournament

Purdue wins the Maui in an excellent game. A 70 foot 3 at the half becomes the difference.
Lurch Edey is a hell of a player. He looks like he's 11 feet tall, draws 220 fouls and shoots 70% FT's. Tough to beat. The Boilermakers should run through an anemic Big 10.

He moves decently but not enough. The speed on the pro game will hamstring him. Marquette ramped up their defense last night and he wasn't a factor for a while. I didn't think he was an NBA prospect anyway or he would have came out already. I can see him having a Zion Williamson, Greg Oden career. Injuries galore

Guys like him, especially in college basketball, can really be helped by NIL. If you're at Purdue, it's never going to be pro money, but if you're not going to have much after that rookie contract, to truly be big man on campus and make a really nice chunk of change while getting your degree - - it makes sense. Drew Timme undoubtedly benefited last year and in the past guys like Tyler Hansborough and Adam Morrison would have too.

Gerald Ford was president when he started as HC. Is Marquette really that good? They could be. Three returnees from the 2022-23 All Big East team, including POY Tyler Kolek. Nice recruiting class but no transfers. The top of the Big East looks very good. UConn look as good as they did in March. Creighton looked good until they were slaughtered by Colorado State last night. Villanova atoned for a ghastly loss to Penn by beating Carolina.

Creighton game was odd.

Creighton game was odd. I didn't see it. CSU is undefeated but playing a pitiful schedule.
The ACC-SEC Challenge begins. Miami-Kentucky and Clemson-Alabama should be good game

No one cared, but Kentucky slapped around #8 Miami like a $2 hooker, 95-73. Coach Cal has brought in an epic recruiting class. This with little from DJ Wagner (Milt's son) and their three 7 foot players. Freshman guard Reed Sheppard is a great player, maybe 2nd only to Lurch Edey.
Arkansas-Duke tonite. Hogs bringing out all the mojo, including title winning coach Nolan Richardson

Remember when Georgia Tech was a power in CBB?

Remember when Georgia Tech was a power in CBB? You have to go back to the days of Bobby Cremins for that. He was a native NYC guy and could go to the City and grab players like Kenny Anderson and John Salley away from the Big East schools. Tech had never been the same. Now couched by Damon Stoudamire. The latest in the string of big name players to coach in the NCAA. Like Juwon Howard and Penny Hardaway, who the jury is still out on. And Patrick Ewing and Chris Mullin who didn't fare so well

A team that lost to Kentucky in OT (in Rupp) and lost to Texas A&M Commerce (Commerce?).
Nova in not enjoying the Big 5 games as they already lost to Penn

Epic game tonight, UConn v. Kansas at Phog Allen Fieldhouse. Wowser. I haven't seen the Huskies but they have been going through opponents like Patton through Germany. Longest active win streak, 13 (duh) and longest streak of beating opponents by at least 20 in CBB history. Two of their next three are UNC and Gonzaga. I'll have to watch both this game and the PAC 12 football title
In other news, Bronny James, LBJ's kid is cleared to play for USC after some heart trouble. Be fun to see him play but, from what I've read, he's good but nowhere near Daddy. He's only a four star recruit on ESPN
