Star Wars E.T. Temple of Doom Ghostbusters
The number of iconic/memorable set pieces from those 4 films alone... on a kid's impression no less.
Police Academy series is in there - those movies must've been shown at a 1/3rd of any house/party I visited both with or without parents... I think parents rented them/put them on for us because how tame they were? The voice guy was a comedic superhero for us kids. Friday the 13th & Nightmare on Elm St. are HM's for pre-teen years.

Going to age 13, back then we had no home video or HBO, etc...so outside of Disney movies largely, I was dependent on local TV to see "real" movies.
The Classic Universal Horror from the 30s-40s, and the OG King Kong & Godzilla. The Ten Commandments The OG Planet of the Apes franchise. The Poseidon Adventure Jaws The Omen Star Wars

The terminator. Superman iii. Supegirl. Return to Oz. Some of those are not very good. But they came out a long time ago.

(By the way, I wish I could say Jaws was part of this, but unfortunately I didn't see it until it premiered on TV when I was 13 or 14) We were in the same boat as usual (no pun intended). I was still too little to see rated R movies when Jaws came out. Started seeing it on TV years later and it became one of my all time favorite movies.

I don't really think it's violent enough to be rated R, I'm guessing it would be PG-13 if it came out now.

I guess I just wasn’t allowed to see horror movies as a kid, even PG ones…lol. (I did manage to sneak into Halloween a few years later though.)
