The 2023 obit thread will be retired as soon as the New Year's Bells are heard, depending on where in our world someone sadly leaves us, as local time might differ from where we all are. Late news of those who sadly passed away during 2023 is still to be posted posted there.

American actor, producer and film publicist Mickey Cottrell passed away on January 1st from Parkinson's disease. American actor and singer David Soul (1943-2022) passed away on January 4th. Beloved for his role of Detective Kenneth "Hutch" Hutchinson on Starsky & Hutch (1975-1979), he was also a regular on a TV series version of the classic film, Casablanca, as Rick Blaine, and the short-lived NBC primetime soap, The Yellow Rose. He appeared in a variety of films, including Magnum Force (1973), Salem's Lot (1979 TV mini-series), Appointment With Death (1988), Starsky & Hutch (2004) and Filth (2013). German actor, writer and producer Christian Oliver (1972-2024) died suddenly on January 4th, along with his two daughters, Annik and Madita, when their small passenger plane crashed in the Atlantic Ocean near St. Vincent in the Caribbean. How very sad. I wasn't familiar with Mr. Oliver, or his work. I cannot imagine the grief of his wife/girls' mother. Deep condolences to the pilot's family, as well.

I wasn't exactly aware of this actor either, although I have seen movies he'd been in...but man, that poor woman lost her entire family. Beyond sad. |

American actor and singer Bill Hayes (1925-2014) passed away on January 12th. He was a regular on Your Show of Shows as a singer, and later had a hit song with "The Ballad of Davy Crockett." He turned towards acting more, landing the role of con artist, Doug Williams, on Days of Our Lives in 1970, which he would continue to play right up until 2023. It was there where he met second wife, Susan Seaforth Hayes. The two were a major couple on the show, also. Together, they appeared on the cover of Time magazine in 1976.     |

American actor and model Alec Musser (1973-2024) died on January 13th from suicide, a gunshot to the chest. He was the winner of the second season of the reality show I Wanna Be a Soap Star, which led to him being cast on All My Children.
