The US women's rugby team won the first medal for US rugby in 100 years in a wild less second victory over Australia. Crazy stuff. Happy to win one, but those Ozzy broads were devastated. It must be said that rugby wasn't played in the Olympics at all between 1924 and 2016 (inclusive).

The triathlon event has been postponed because of bad water quality on the Seine. There is a possibility that it will become a duathlon instead, without swimming. I guess it is too late for a Plan B at Cannes or something. Works all year to improve on his/her swimming time; they cancel the swimming. Make them ride their bikes to a pool and swim laps endlessly.

3x3 Basketball is an Olympic sport. Y'all gotta be shitting me. A gold medal for this made up kids game? What's next, Miniature Golf? Beer Pong? Wait until you come across Olympic Breakdancing. Hold your breath, we get flag football in 2028. I had heard of 3x3 before. Thought it was some gimmick the NBA dreamed up to jam pro basketball down our throats 12 months a year. I finally seen a game a couple weeks ago in a waiting room TV. All I could think is that it was on a level with the HORSE games we played as kids. "Make a foul shot while standing on one leg and singing Strawberry Fields Forever." And the quality was a steaming pile of dung. Me and the old biddy wth the walker and the portly gent with his arm in a sling in the waiting room could have whupped these clowns.
Hell, I looked at the rosters. One familiar name and it's Jimmer Fredette, a 70 year old ex 1st round bust
Wheee

To get soccer games that don't include the US, and boxing, anybody remember boxing, I have to watch the Olympic coverage on the Spanish language tv stations.

It might actually be fun if it was some of the NBAs best players.

They swore to us for weeks ahead of time that the cleanup efforts were successful and the water would be clean enough. They say it's all the rain over the last few days putting a lot of nasty runoff into the river. If that's true then the decade-long cleanup effort wasn't as effective as they claimed.

France takes gold in the Women's event and GB in the Men's.

Sure does. They fooled me with their technically correct superlative!

As expected, pitting a female boxer against an opponent with XY chromosomes (man) has ended in tears. Less than a minute into the bout, Italy's Angela Carini signalled that she could no longer continue after her controversial adversary, Algeria's Imane Khelif managed a powerful punch to her nose. “I am heartbroken,” said Carini. “I went to the ring to honour my father. I was told a lot of times that I was a warrior but I preferred to stop for my health. I have never felt a punch like this.” She had never felt 'a punch like this' because the difference in body strength between men and women is vast. This should never have been allowed to take place. Once again, women are being edged out of their sports because of the insistence of the inclusion of men, however they identify, alongside them. Tomorrow sees another dubious boxer, Lin Yu-ting, compete against a woman and I think any decent person would prefer the fight to be called off before a tragedy occurs. It was only because Carini herself ended today's fight that these Olympics didn't have to witness a man pummelling a woman to a pulp and possibly seen her become seriously injured, permanently damaged or worse. Angela Carini abandons Olympic fight after 46 seconds against Imane Khelif

A lot of Algerians on X are angry that so many people called their compatriot Imane Khelif " a man".
About the other person in question:

A lot of Algerians on X are angry that so many people called their compatriot Imane Khelif " a man". About the other person in question: Doing some reading on the subject of DSDs (disorders/differences in sex development), I saw that there are rare times when girls/women have XY chromosomes. Swyer Syndrome is such a condition. If Khelif really is of the female sex, this might be why tests have shown XY. In any case, this would need debating in the sporting world. If such a person has an extreme advantage against other people in their sex class because of these uncommon conditions, would it be fair of then to be allowed to participate? The information surrounding both Khelif and Yu-ting seems murky. I'm surprised this kind of thing is not declared properly for transparency's sake. This is a whole other thing to consider, alongside the controversy of letting trans-identifying males into female sports. It's not about banning trans people from competing, it's about fairness. Females who indentify as males or 'non-binary' who haven't used testosterone are perfectly free to still compete in women's sports and there have been athletes who have done so without any issues.

I was frustrated at first because of that lack of clarity - does she just have too much testosterone? Does she have XY chromosomes? - but afterwards I realised that not only it would be a breach of her right to privacy, it would be cruel to put it in the media for the whole world to see that she is a male with a genetic malformation.

Yes, all the obfuscation around these athletes doesn't help, it just adds to the speculation. Obviously people's medical history should remain private if the individuals choose not to share it with others but it's naïve to think that people won't come to their own conclusions. Although Khelif has not won every bout that's been fought, there may still be an above average advantage due to raised testosterone levels and other bodily attributes which regular women don't possess.
