That finish at the 100m! Never seen anything that Close. I've seen it several times and I still can't see how they decided who won.

Did anyone see the pole vaulter lose because he hit the bar with his penis?
That was pretty funny.

Men's 1500 was very exciting. That was one race which really lived up to the hype. Ingebrigtsen went out way too hot and ultimately got burned. Amazing for that Hocker dude - Ingebrigtsen had him blocked on the corner but then looks like he moved over to try and stop Kerr but he was too late for that and that and basically opened up a gap for him to fly past and take the gold! Still - A PB by three seconds. If an African runner had done that you can bet your bottom dollar questions would be getting asked!

Brazil vs USA in the women's soccer final. Brazil has come close on a number of occasions but have never won a major international title (World Cup, Olympic Gold). The USA of course have a cupboard full of trophies. The two teams have met in the final of Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, with the Americans coming out on top both times.

The whole pre-race hype was about those other two being rivals and they treated Hocker like a complete afterthought. The Norwegian (I think) and the Brit made up the entirety of the hype before the race and one didn't even medal and the other barely got silver in the photo finish. The change of positions in that last stretch really was quite entertaining to watch.

Some results definitely raise eyebrows, particularly (looking at the Chinese swim program) when there are previous positive doping tests on their record. But in a race as long as this, I don't think 3 seconds is crazy. It's been a fast track. That's what the Olympics are about, someone is going to have the race of their life.

I don't want to put words in his mouth, but I think he was just saying the media is more likely to question the results of a nation that isn't an Olympic powerhouse.

I guess that's maybe what I'm finding most confusing then because I thought African runner tended to do be top long distance runners.

I saw this. It's a great shame that she couldn't make the weight grade but I guess there has to be a clear cut-off point. Not sure how much she thought her hair weighed that would make a difference, LOL.

Interesting interview today on Andrew Gold's 'Heretics' channel. He was speaking to Dr. Emma Hilton who is a developmental biologist so knows her onions on the subject of sex. Many things covered during the conversation, in particular the current controversy at the Olympics about the athletes with DSDs but also the transwomen (men identifying as women) in various women's sports these days, advantages and disadvantages of both sexes in sports, and much more.

Has this always been the case or is this new: why aren't there racers in lane one of the running events? I could have sworn that it used to be lanes 1-8, not 2-9.

The change of positions in that last stretch really was quite entertaining to watch. Yeah it was a great race to watch and definitely lived up to the hype. It was funny because Kerr didn't even seem that bothered he hadn't won. Think he had just been so fixated on Ingebrigtsen and Ingebrigtsen's pre match chat that he wouldn't be able to keep with him. So in a sense, he proved him wrong and won the duel. But Ingebrigtsen was pretty decent about the result afterwards, and showed himself to be a decent sport. That last bit was just me laughing about an American running a 3 second PB. I used to read a lot on an American running site - LetsRun - and they used to go on and on about Africans coming out of nowhere with outlier PBs smashing up middle and longer distance running. Funny thing was I did look in on there after posting here and there were multiple threads questioning it (!) so at least they are consistent 😂...

Do African runners have a history of being caught doping? Yeah it was a massive thing until fairly recently, e.g:- www.bbc.co.uk/sport/athletics/66223437But not just Kenya. The Ethiopians had a lot of positive tests too:- www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/aug/04/doping-hotspot-ethiopia-drug-testing-epo
