First half: Funny People (barely) The 2 halves are so different they feel like 2 different movies. I liked the 1st half much better as well.

I'm not exactly sure of the proportions, but I though Alien Resurrection started well and completely fell apart by the end.

I am reminded that there are a number of first superhero movies where I enjoy the "origin story" half but feel like they lose steam once they jump into the "save the girlfriend/city/world" half which is usually a little truncated and generic. Examples:
Superman: The Movie Spider-Man (2002) Batman Begins Iron Man
Even The Dark Knight Rises kinda falls into that, since the first half is Bruce re-Batman Beginning, second half is just stopping a bomb from blowing up.
Edit: damn, how'd I forget Hancock? That might not the ultimate example of a better first half

Oops, I must have missed that somehow. Agreed. Maybe one of the worst left turns in a movie I've ever seen. And I don't even remember what it was!, just that it was terrible.

I'm sure people will bring up "Full Metal Jacket". Well that's definitely one where the first half is much better, but I wouldn't say I dislike the second half. It's just kind of average and a bit forgettable.

I like Titanic...up to the point just before the boat hits the 'berg. Too sad and realistically harrowing after that, for me.

Jaws has two halves - The shark eating victims one by one, Quint and the boys hunting the shark.
The movie is great the whole way, but the second half is more entertaining and exciting.
Return of the Jedi has two halves - Jabba the Hutt/Solo rescue, The Emperor/Vader/Luke confrontation and Endor/Death Star battle
I like both halves, but the Jabba half is more creative. The second half, although entertaining, feels more routine outside of the Emperor/Vader/Luke confrontation.

The second half, although entertaining, feels more routine outside of the Emperor/Vader/Luke confrontation. Isn't the Haha half over by like 30 minutes in? Though it perhaps feels longer because all the Endor stuff is so meandering and empty.
