Apart from the size difference.
DON'T LIKE:
Avatars are too big and distracting.
The 'like' button, another distraction and too social media.
LIKE:
Image posting capability. This more than makes up for the first two.

I like how imdb2 has notification feature built into the site. Having to contantly log into my email, to check for notifications for IMDB, was inconvenient. This site has it all in one place, which i like!

Unless someone else comes up with an IMDB clone you won't get a board for every film, TV show and personality.
That said, I don't think we really need that anyway. So many of the threads on IMDB were so stupid and the lack of moderation was probably driving people away as well. Given the amount of members that site has and how few people would actually post anything is a good example.
You also could easily lose track of posts and threads on IMDb whereas here you can track anything you like.

Beginning is good. We need to see what happens in the long run. Will it survive in the long run? In the beginning the posters from the defunct boards are enthusiastic and some of them post a lot. Then they burn out and stop enjoying it. Let's see...

I certainly appreciate the effort (or I wouldn't have registered - and with my old IMDB name from 2003!), but I was really hoping someone would clone the site, including the existing discussions. (I know, it's unrealistic, because IMDB - sorry, Amazon - being the money-hungry piranha it is would probably try to sue you arguing it's their content even though WE created them for them to get rich.) I would also prefer the familiar gold-yellow and black colour scheme. And individual boards for all actors and films, of course. Maybe in time...?

Hmmm maybe someone already has (well I can't clone every discussion - not enough time for that)

There's still a lot of potential to add new features and to update the layout. It's proboards, it's limited. There won't be boards for every single title, but there's room for plenty of discussion. Go and create threads!

DON'T LIKE: Avatars are too big and distracting. The 'like' button, another distraction and too social media. I actually like those things. The avatars on imdb were too minuscule, I thought. I like having the 'like' feature here because sometimes you agree with someone's statement but you don't have anything to add to the discussion. This lets the user know that you read and agree with what they said.

Definitely like that we can post actual pictures instead of sharing a link to one!
Going to make for alot fun reactions to topics!

Then they burn out and stop enjoying it. Let's see... That's exactly what I think will likely happen. A lot of people are flooding over here now looking for a replacement, it'll only continue to increase as the IMDB clock runs out. After IMDB goes down this will probably see a boost from all the people who will try to get their board cravings but over time I expect people will realise that it's just not the same experience. Users will start to not use this anymore, activity will drop and then it'll just be a snowball effect where the inactivity will cause more users to leave which will create more inactivity. Then the board will die and that'll be it. I don't want that to happen but most likely that is exactly what will happen.

Obviously this site is not trying to be "the new IMDb". It's simply here to give people a place where they can interact with other people who are into film. Why would this forum die if there is no other forum website like this elsewhere on the internet? This is just a place where you can discuss film-related stuff. There's no reason for people to leave. I personally so far am loving it here. I LIKE the bigger avatars and I LIKE the "like" feature because it's a form of feedback -- it shows you that people agree with you or that they like what you had to say. The only thing I dislike is that the Admin rushed to rearrange the sections and subforums. That was way too premature (the forum had only existed for a week when he did it). He should maybe have waited a month to see how things turned out and then made some rearrangements based on that.

Because pretty much everyone has just quickly come over here in a rush from IMDB in the hopes of continuing the IMDB board experience. Over the next week more and more people will come and especially after IMDB goes down this will see a big rise in activity but it won't last. Not having the movie specific boards amongst other things will mean that eventually users will start to have less interest in the board, they'll just leave, the boards will start to get less active and nobody wants to post on an inactive board so those people will leave. It's just the sad truth and it will be true for all these alternatives. People are in a "panic" and they'll need their movie board cravings after IMDB goes down but once they get over it then these boards will die out. If this board is even as active as it is now in say 3 months time I'd be incredibly surprised.

While promoting my own site I'm also pushing this site - hopefully that is bringing over new members - after all this is the only site that has any kind of following

Just an FYI; Prior to the year 2000 the IMDB boards only had these kinds of limited headings. - There were no individual boards for each movie and TV series. And IMDb boards did fine with that limitation. This site can work as long as there are boards for the major genres, eras, topics. So, far that's what I see. Also, this site tracks replies better than IMDb. Imo at least, BB ;-)

It's just being realistic. Sadly I've seen it happen before. The odds that this will actually pay off in the long run is tiny.
But that was 17 years ago, I bet most didn't even have a computer back then. Having individual boards is what people have grown used to.
Obviously that can't be done right now which is why it's important to get the main board done right.
I've tried making a few threads on the boards to spread awareness. There's an extra 30 users on here since I did that. The more that come over from IMDB the better.

I miss being able to go to an individual movie message board just after watching it to discuss it. I spent over 16 years on IMDB so it's just sad this has happened. Reminds me of when BBC closed their 606 forums.

Reminds me of when BBC closed their 606 forums. There is the www.themoviedb.org - boards seem totally dead, or I've yet to find any that have more than 1 or 2 threads, plus the navigation is annoying as hell but the owner is a nice guy My own site www.chataboutfilms.com (which is archiving a lot of the old threads) And stay here for general chat
