After rewatching the first GotG, I really noticed how bad that dance-off scene is. It really kind of killed the movie for me. I can't believe they left the "Martha" scene in BvS, but I REALLY can't believe they left the dance-off scene in GotG. Oh come on, the dance off scene perfectly fits the character and actually makes sense in that context. It's nothing like Martha which didn't make sense from a character point of view. And really it's pretty fun right before the movie gets dramatic as hell. They didn't need to ruin the climax with a joke. They should've given it a rest for one scene. If there's one thing that The Winter Soldier proves, it's that humor is best left to the side when the dramatic moments play out. That's not to say that the humor should be abandoned all together (TWS is quite funny). They just need to control it.

I thought it was great, and made a lot of sense for the character, so when you say they ruined it, that doesn't make any sense to me. I enjoy it every time I see it.

I'm sure you liked it (not very many people dislike it), but how does it rank for you in the rest of the MCU?

I still can't believe there are still people who think Widow was talking about her sterilization when she said "I'm a monster".
She was talking about how she was brainwashed by the Red Room, people.

3. GotG 1 Peter Quill: Dance-off, bro. Me and you. [as Peter dances he holds his hand out to Gamora] Gamora. [Gamora shakes her head] Subtle. Take it back. [Peter continues to dance] Ronan: What are you doing? Peter Quill: I'm distracting you, you big turd blossom. You can't be that clueless. Try googling what to do if you encounter a cougar Quill did not act like prey which is how Ronan expected him to behave

I'm sure you liked it (not very many people dislike it), but how does it rank for you in the rest of the MCU? TWS is definitely top shelf. I don't really do a 1-15 type of ranking, more of a tiered sort of look at it, but TWS is definitely on the top level along with at least Avengers, Civil War, and Guardians 1.
The reason I regard the dance off as perfect is because you just had an extremely emotional moment with Groot's death, and then another incredibly dramatic moment with the Power Stone victory right after. You needed something to separate those two moments of high emotion so that they weren't competing with each other, and the more I've seen it, the more I realize the dance off was brilliant. The little glance he gives Rocket, realizing that he just needs a moment to build a weapon and knowing he can trick Ronan by doing something unexpected. To not like it is to disregard the genius of the scene in my opinion.

Since we were talking about The Winter Soldier anyway, my preference lies with the tone throughout its climax. Steve and Bucky fight in the helicarrier as Falcon takes on the HYDRA foot soldiers. The fight is intense and long. Once it's finally over, there is the big character moment where Steve says that he won't kill Bucky because he's his friend. He falls in the pond or lake below; yada yada, you know the rest. It's a great stretch of filmmaking. It also has a consistent tone that adds to the tension and effectiveness. The Guardians scene was funny, but it didn't fit. Plus, I don't think we need a break between dramatic moments. Everyone can handle a little more narrative heft even when it's in consecutive scenes.

I just view it as two long sustained tones with a strong emotional payoff to a long intense battle scene, bridged with a moment to breathe and smile, and then a gripping intense emotional pay off referencing his mother's death. You absolutely could not just run those two together, and they did the right thing with the music to insulate those from each other.
Comparing it to TWS doesn't make sense because TWS is an intense thriller and Guardians is built on levity. You're trying to make it a film that it just isn't. That's like arguing that Beverly Hills Cop didn't work because the jokes would have never been in a Bourne film. Of course they wouldn't, because Beverly Hills Cop is an action comedy and Bourne is a political thriller. You're comparing apples to pork chops.

Like I said, it's just different tastes. You might like the apples more, but I prefer the pork chops. It just took me out of the movie and made me roll my eyes. Otherwise it's a good scene to top off a good movie.

Otherwise it's a good scene to top off a good movie. It's really more about understanding what they were trying to accomplish, and not really about tastes. I love pork chops and apples. I also love TWS, but that has nothing to do with loving what they did with Guardians.
I'm explaining what they did because I'm hopeful you will come to appreciate that moment instead of letting it take you out of it. It was exactly what Starlord would do, and that keeps me in it.

In my experience the best way to face a cougar is to act friendly and polite, and then bail before it's too late. Or you will only encourage the cougar to see you as prey. And always give a false number, ffs.

I was driving to work one morning & this mangy German shepardish dog was just trotting down the street in front of me like he had no care. Then I realized it was a coyote. They run around trying to feed on the pets fools put out for the night. Making oneself appear not prey can scare them away as well. We get reports of cougars attacking hikers in our parks. I knew you had a 50-50 chance of going human cougar in your reply.

I live in central Europe and simply have no fight-or-flight exposure to the beastly ones, or much to say about facing them. The human ones are rare here too though, but not extinct. Anyhow, seems you are fighting the good fight in the wilderness out there merh, and stand your woman bravely. Kudos.

So freeway driving is almost mandatory & canyons filled with wildlife are all over. That coyote was in Mira Mesa, an area with canyons all over. I had to drive through the Penasquitos preserve to get to work as well as shop. I'm more in the city now, but still skunks, squirrels, raccoons & possums are all over. I see some rabbits as well which is probably what the coyotes chase, but get distracted by the pets. There was a video of a deer wandering into the Mission Valley IHOP on Youtube. I don't mind the crows, but the damned California gulls freak me out. We were at Sea World & one swooped down & inhaled a rib bone in like a second, then stood there staring at us like he was trying to snag more
