Disliked Kim Gordon as a vocalist, until I realized how much I liked her as a vocalist.

For a long time IRON FIRE was one of those bands that I felt should be up my alley, but their albums never impressed me until I heard their 2016 release "Among the Dead".

I disliked Janis Joplin in her heyday, even though I saw her in 1970, not long before she died. I've come to appreciate her gutsiness but I still think she overdid it.

I've begun to appreciate Queen more and more over the years.

Used to like B*witched, then disliked them as I got older, now like them again as they bring back memories.

Van Halen When they were around in those Roth years I saw them as juvenile, idiotic, rock for imbeciles. The Clash were saying things with their music and Van Halen were singing childish double entendres about the ice cream man. It wasn't until years later that I realized, man, they were a kick ass ("Unchained," "Dead Or Alive") rock band that was simply a lot of fun. Mindless entertainment at its best.

There's nothing mindless about Eddie's guitar work. It's brilliant.

I doubt anyone on here has heard of him, but there was a vocalist in the 1900s/1910s named Manuel Romain, who mostly recorded sentimental songs. I initially hated his singing, but have grown to like it a lot.
Here's him singing "I Wonder Who's Kissing Her Now" in a 1909 recording:

And don't give me he is like Coltrane or Miles...freedom of form. No, Eddie is simply mindless. His idea of a solo is make some squeals and then throw in the one technique he mastered -- finger tapping. God, do I hate Eddie's leads. They are laughably idiotic. On the other hand, Eddie's rhythm playing is unreal. The guy can hammer you into the ground with the rhythm guitar work he comes up with. "Unchained" is a brilliant rhythm lick. And of course, nothing in all rock can come close to his savage rhythm guitar creation on "Dead Or Alive." Such a simple rhythm riff, but absolutely killer:

can it be someone you grew to dislike as well? but anyways ill say The Sundays, who seemed sort of fluffy to me but then on another listen I realized how soulful the lyrics are.

ANd he has indeed plateaued somewhat in recent years, but that debut record came out in 1978. Nobody was doing that then and nobody sounded like him. Perhaps it's time to give Fair Warning another spin.

Absolutely hated Aerosmith, Rod Stewart, Bob Seger, Van Morrison, and most of Bruce Springsteen and Janis Joplin. Now don't think any are half bad.

Not so much an artist but a song, used to really not like it, but I've come around The Dream Academy - "Life in a Northern Town"

OK, fair enough. Yeah, at the time maybe what Eddie was doing was taking guitar driven music to a whole different level. But come on, the guy never progressed from "Eruption." Oh, wow, he used a drill on "Poundcake." Yeah, that's really progressing musically. And to be honest, I always felt Alex was the more interesting musician. Alex is far better at what he does than Eddie is at what Eddie does. Eddie has something called a "brown sound." Sorry, I don't hear it. But Alex's drum sound is so distinct. He has a sound that is his own. His snare in particular is a sound only Alex gets. Alex is the better of the two brothers.

After hearing "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morrisette, I was quite shocked. I mean, after hearing her first two CDs, it was a helluva difference!
I made the declaration that I would never pick up the CD of "Jagged Little Pill".
However, as she started releasing more songs from the album, namely:
"Hand In My Pocket" "Ironic" "Head Over Feet"
I began to change my tune about Alanis Morrisette. The songs weren't all as angry sounding as "You Oughta Know".
"Head Over Feet" convinced me to pick up the CD. [yes]

Alex is not an impressive drummer, let alone an "interesting musician." He shines a bit on Outta Love Again, but I wonder if that's even him. And why did he leave the stick click in the intro to Hot for Teacher? It would have been nothing to stop and say, "Whoops! Let's start that again." lol As far as musicianship goes, Alex is definitely the weak link in VH.
