Vlad Tepes Heinz Guderian Erwin Rommel Robert E Lee I agree with Lee, anyone who knows the Civil War would. Why Rommel? For the good or the bad?

Rommel, because he was a commander in the Third Reich. Whitewashed for the bad...he was an honorable man. Same with Guderian.

Vlad Tepes Heinz Guderian Erwin Rommel Robert E Lee Why Vlad just curious. Because while the rest of the Western World regards him as a historical villain, the Romanian people regard him a hero of their nation.

A lot of people would argue Christopher Columbus (at least up until the last 30 years or so).
I would argue for Stalin. High School history books never really mention the atrocities he committed, they usually just mention that the Soviets were our allies against Hitler, and that tons of Russians died during the war (true).

Thomas Edison. A genius at acquiring patents as much as anything else.

Columbus' reputation is taking quite a hit lately (I'm sure with justification).

Rommel would have been labeled pure genius if he had been a fighting general in WW1 (the great war). However, since he was Wehrmacht under Hitler he is vilified. He was a Nationalist and loved his country but that doesn't make him a Nazi. Most of the General Staff under Hitler were just people that loved their country and didn't deserve the disrespect they received. I don't love Hitler and I believe he was a fool and a very evil man but that shouldn't filter down to most of his subordinates, especially those in the General army.
