Who here's sadly long departed Cassavetes-45 (female) who REALLY LIKED (other than the late John Cassavetes) the also late Peter Falk and his series 'Columbo'? She died of cancer (I believe) five years ago or so. Give or take a year or so. I even made a thread dedicated to her after she passed.

Hob had a lot of friends here, has inexplicably (to my way of thinking) vanished, by which I mean from all the "known" classic movie and television message boards out there. No need to name them all here. There are other, more difficult to access places on the Web where no doubt he'd be a welcome presence, but I haven't seen nor heard of him anywhere.
I do wish that at those sites many of us frequent on-line where IMB "survivors" have migrated to that those who had IMDB names and identities would continue to use them, which is the case for many regulars here. There's only one place where I know this to have happened. We had a bunch of wonderful, offbeat, erudite and/or just plain different, as in, to use the vernacular, funky posters at the old place, and while I've reacquainted myself with many of them elsewhere, including here. there's still, for me, at a personal level, due to my having been with the old IMDB for so long, a void "out there" on the Web, as in a place to call classic movie home.
This place is a very good one, and there are others just as good in their own way, however what's missing is the "quick action" of the IMDB message boards, where you can just jump in and find friends. This place may well be the best of the bunch. I think most regulars here are familiar with some of the others as well. A good one I rarely visit but which had some old-timers who go back to the very old days of the IMDB, is badmovies. org. Some folks here may well be regulars there. It's much less lively than here, more so than most of the others. Sad to say, it's too specialized for my tastes most of the time. Still, it's a good default, has been around for many years.

No need to name them all here. There are other, more difficult to access places on the Web where no doubt he'd be a welcome presence, but I haven't seen nor heard of him anywhere. That's the puzzlement, not only of Hob, but of any number of others: prolific posters who rarely missed a day, yet seemingly - and suddenly - were disinterested in finding another place to light or even occasionally express views. Earlier in the year, I sampled most of the alternatives to IMDB and felt confident that I'd have soon recognized him from his style and opinions even if he was posting under a different username (as indeed I have a couple here). The main reason I retained mine (and I'm guessing your thinking was similar) was the simple ability to pick up where we'd left off elsewhere and avoid anything resembling "re-establishment" or "re-acquaintance." And it strikes me as odd that people with so much to say on such a regular basis would abruptly no longer feel that to be the case. Well, Hob, wherever you are, you're remembered and missed.

I do wish that at those sites many of us frequent on-line where IMB "survivors" have migrated to that those who had IMDB names and identities would continue to use them, which is the case for many regulars here. Though I wasn't very active in later years, and only visited sporadically. So not many might remember me. The only difference I've done with my old username from old IMDB is that I've shortened it, since I considered that it was too long and complicated and shouldn't have any reference to my real name. It was pure fluke I was in that week before message boards disappeared from old IMDB, so I got to know about this place.

Well, I'm glad that you did find this place, Teleadm, even if our screen names have the same first three letters... . There's little chance of confusing us.

OldAussie For whatever reason, I was looking at this thread again and saw your post: Addison - Still publishes his reviews here - thecinemascopecat.blogspot.com.au/
I had not looked at it back in July (bad bat) so I took a look. It was interesting to read his review of The Greatest Showman as he seemed to have a pretty good handle on what was "worth seeing". I laughed when I clicked on his photo : it says click for full size and it then shrinks to postage stamp size ! Thanks for the link. It's good to read his essays again.
If anyone is in contact with any of "the missing" perhaps we can encourage them to at least take a look at the place as guests.

I've been in contact with Teresa, Lucia Harper and a few other IMDB veterans who seldom (ever?) visit these boards, and they're fine. For my part, I've mentioned this place to them all, and none have taken the "bait", as it were, though it's still fairly early, and the demise of the old boards was, even as this is painful and difficult to remember, well under a full year ago.

If you look at the "Users Viewing" listings, there is usually a bunch of "Guests". I wonder how many are old friends just seeing who all is here and what all is going on and if it's "safe" to enter.

It's nice to see that this thread's still here. For those with an adventurous spirit there's a site out there that has a number of ex-IMDB people, some under different names, a few of whom one can easily decipher due to their similarities to their old name. It's called badmovies.org, in itself an unpromising name for such a place; they review good films, too, with a strong emphasis on genre of the Noir-horror-sci-fi and action sort.
Maybe I've mentioned it before. If not, I've mentioned it now. It's not for all tastes by any means. A longtime gone old IMDB regular, Dr. Mality, used to be there. He's around the Web at other places, too, is a great guy but it takes detective work to find him sometimes.
Speaking of genre,--and I hope I haven't mentioned this before--two good guys big in fantastic films, whether horror, sci-fi or action-adventure stuff, Leroy Gomm and Bensonmum, are two just the mention of which brings back fond memories.

I wonder if the British poster called Spikeopath used to post on classic cinema board on old IMDB. I liked reading his posts on western cinema boards and sports board. www.imdb.com/user/ur16161013/

Before the boards closed I invited Spikeopath on this board. Because he very regularly posted on my sports threads and he was a genuinely nice person as you said. But he seemed to be wary of aggressive impolite posters who were often attacking his posts on old boards (even if he refused to entertain them). He indicated that in reply to my invitation.

There was one extremely patient lady who I posted with who admitted to having cancer. Trolls then besieged her, her daughter then used her account to tell us of her passing. Unfortunately I cannot recall her name. So sorry to hear about Dusty, he was a great poster who seemed to love the same stuff I did.
Anyone remember that woman who was obsessed with Jim Hutton and Ellery Queen? She was not well liked but I could never understand why really.

Lebowskidoo 🦞 The lady whose daughter posted about her death was PKLarkin … … funny story about her... when I was a new newbie just first using the emojis ..she got mad at me and chewed me out for using a "sarcastic emoji" .. I thought it was just a smiley face because it was too small to see the details. We found that we liked many of the same movies and were ok after that early encounter ! MsElleryQueen … yep... remembered ! Last seen on one of the mystery discussion boards (where they hopefully never bring up Citizan Kane or film studies !
