With Captain Marvel's announcement that Skrulls will be in that movie, there is almost no way to avoid the question of whether or not Secret Invasion has been going on this entire time. Even if the movie doesn't directly show a cliffhanger for it, the possibility will still be there.
So does anybody fit the bill for being a Skrull candidate right now?
- I'm going to go ahead and eliminate the possibility or either Iron Man or Captain America. They are far too personally motivated in everything they do to justify that it wasn't actually them. The same with Black Panther. Vision is also out on his unique abilities that aren't likely to have been copied. The same with Hulk. And Scarlett Witch.
- Thor however. This is a guy who is back and forth between worlds. It's all together possible that one of the times he showed up he wasn't actually Thor. - Black Widow is driven by duty, but she has been acting in a way that confuses the group as well. IDK, maybe. - Ant Man seems like the kind of guy to get impersonated. The only trouble here is, when did they get to him? Because it would have had to have been after his first solo film. - Falcon is a great candidate as well. He basically just follows Caps orders, and he was rather pushy to get to know him in the first place if you recall. - War Machine is a prime target as well for similar reasons. Get somebody next to Iron Man. - Hawkeye. Absolutely. He's been MIA a lot, and who knows if he's really him when he shows back up.
Aside from that, any other side character from Maria Hill to Pepper to the Shocker or the President could be in on it too.
What do you think?

I think you're a dork with no life whatsoever, and your fandom makes me literally cringe.

I've been thinking about this, too. I agree with your character choices. Those same suspicions will probably play out in the story. Distrust everywhere. I really hope they do go in this direction next.

It will def be a different take from the comics to keep things intriguing. Maybe the Skrulls are the ones sticking 8's where they shouldn't be. The confusion begins.

It'd be one hell of a plot twist. Anyone affiliated with SHIELD would make a good suspect. Who knows what Hydra had been up to while undercover. Black Widow, Falcon, Maria Hill, or if they wanna go all the way, Nick Fury.

I was trying to remember earlier if this would contradict anything onscreen, but it would be epic if everything to do with Nick's death and death-faking in the Winter Soldier actually was Skrull related. Right there in front of us in another sneakier manner than originally presented as sneaky. That is totally the sort of extra layers of amazing I expect from this whole new world of lies and deception.

Sticking 8's where they shouldn't be? I've been thinking about this for a few minutes and I don't know what you mean by that. I'm sure it's obvious but what?

How well do they copy?

That was referring to "8 years later", implying that the Skrulls are at Marvel Studios right now causing trouble. Just a Skrulls irl creating chaos and distrust among MCU fans joke.

I think it wouldn't be too much trouble if they had him to copy and do a whole death-faking scenario with. That is a point of confirmation to show hey, its fury, everything is cool.

Whilst the comic reading fans might be salivating at the prospect of the Secret Invasion storyline, it is a massive risk. It could alienate a large part of it's audience.

It's a good way to retire certain actors and bring others into the heroic forefront. Plus at this point any event Marvel tries to do, they'll bring to fruition in such a way that the general audience will be able to follow and appreciate. It'll be a shock like the fall of SHIELD to look back at past stories and find hints or suggestions of characterization. They won't include any of the extra wibbly wobbly, timey-wimey stuff.

It will all depend how it's dealt with, who is "replaced" and for how long in the timeline. I just think it could be such a radical (and original) step for an ongoing film franchise to take, it might be too much for many to accept. I'm not saying I wouldn't want to see it. It just has be handled really well.

It'd either be one of the most shocking, game-changing twists ever in a movie or series, or the moment the franchise jumps the shark. It's like how "The Lego Movie" decided to break the fourth wall and involve the real world in its third act. That twist could've easily destroyed the movie, but instead it gave the movie a much more emotionally driven angle, which helped the movie get glowing reviews and become a huge sleeper hit.

I'm starting to think that Avengers 4 will likely be based on the Secret Invasion storyline. They did mention that the title of the movie would be a spoiler.

I'm curious how you think that would go down. Isn't it going to be the conclusion to Thanos? Why and how do you think Skrulls are somebody going to get involved?
I was thinking if they do Skrulls it would come after Thanos, not before.
