Only if patchy means it's damn near perfect. Perfect? Ant-Man? Iron Man 3? GOTG? Quite simply, they are not perfect. They have achieved a great deal, and yes I like certain MCU films very much but I wouldn't say that the acting and writing of the MCU is perfect unless you're a parody troll. All those were awesome. No clue what your problem is.

Civil War is one of the great executions in comic history and AOU is solid fun. No clue what you're talking about. No, The Winter Soldier is an excellent film. Civil War is not. Granted, it's not bad, but it's not the masterpiece that you claim it is. AOU is fun? All I know that it's tacky and otherwise forgettable. We have every reason to expect more from the MCU because they have shown that they can achieve great things. Civil War is fucking brilliant. An amazing accomplishment, a true masterpiece and I would argue it is the pinnacle of comic book filmmaking that any series should strive to achieve. It is what these types of films were meant to be.

From all the movies you chose those three? GOTG is unbelievably funny and have is characters you will remember forever. Ant-man was an accomplishment in bringing d-listers to the big screen, and fun as hell. Iron-man 3 is the most divisive of those but it's still amazing and at least is still talked about to this day because of the twist. All successful, all praised, all great.

Many films are praised but are not great. Iron Man 3 is a perfect example. It's complete garbage. It is insultingly bad. Where do I start with that? There are a thousand things wrong with it. I won't bother chronicling everything wrong with that horrid film so I'll pick one. That film is the product of RDJ's self indulgence. His handpicked director. Him not wearing the suit so he can advertise himself and his crappy martial arts. RDJ called the shots and misfired all round. Oh hell let's keep going. * Ignored the story arc established in IM and IM2 regarding the acquisition of the Iron Man tech by the US military which they obtained at the end of IM2. So much potential flushed down the sewer. * A poor adaptation of the Extremis story from the comics. EXTREMELY PATHETIC more like it. * War Machine sidelined to background sidekick role. * Rhodey shoots a crane cable with a 9mm, breaking it. WTF? * Broke the MCU tradition of hard rock music accompanying Iron Man. The IM3 music sucked. * The armour breaks apart when hit by a truck. * Slapstick comedy! * Makes light the threat of Islamic terror. Bin Laden type figures are shown to be creations of the US. Creates a whole new generation of conspiracy whackjobs. * Super powered Pepper Potts!

Make a movie about it, incorporate them in the plot, make tacky jokes funny, and start a successful franchise with it, well, that's pretty hard.

Why bring a franchise that has nothing in common with gotg except being successful?

The X-Men and Spider-Man are no longer the Belles of the Ball, Marvel now is finally realizing their other characters are just as worthwhile and are actively trying to undo all the damage promoting the X-Men did to the Marvelverse. Deal with it.

Deal with it. Wrong again, BJ. Nope, even the comics are realizing "Geez, why did we waste our time on only the X-Men when the rest of our roster can be cool? Better capitalize on that!" And that's what the X-Fanatics just can't stand. Marvel never needed the X-Men to be a good comic publisher, not in the 70s, the 80s, the 90s, the early 2000s or now. They just didn't realize how awesome the rest of their universe was.

Numbers were bad when they were promoting the X-Men. If anything, promoting the X-Men is what eventually led to the poor numbers.
