I never decided my sexual orientation. I've always been straight. Ditto

Mine was decided for me when I had my first wet dream. I think I was born straight. Perhaps a better question is when I started feeling attracted to girls. I remember having a crush on Hayley Mills when I saw Pollyanna at the age of nine. But this became more full tilt boogie three or four years later.

You can't make a choice to be attracted to males OR females unless you already find both sexes desirable.
That's bisexuality.

I never had to decide such a thing as my sexual orientation. I think way back when I was 6 or 7 I was very happy when I befriended a girl. I loved to share my lunch with her and talk to her for as long as I could. She left the school when I was in class 6. I tried to find her on fb (when I was on fb) but I could never find her. awwee </3

It's comparable to being right handed. Most people are right handed, although some are left handed and some are ambidextrous. No one can pinpoint exactly why, it just is.

Anyone who writes or eats or does anything left-handed is just choosing to be different because reasons.

Everyone is born "straight" and will stay that way unless their normal development is interfered with. Logic and evolution suggest that - if the aim is to maximise reproductive fitness, why remove some people from the game forever? (Don't say "gay men can have babies if they adopt, as any child they adopt is obviously not theirs and won't allow their genes to be passed on). The handedness analogy is absurd. No one has ever been able to explain why the instance of homosexuality is twice that in the USA as for any other country! Theory 1 - there are many people who are homosexual this week, or this year, and then in 2019 when they graduate college and start to become an adult, will go "hey, maybe I am straight after all?" Theory 2 - environmental degradation affecting several generations.

Firstly, no one knows the cause of people's sexual preference. Most scientists believe it's genetic, but admit to not being able to pinpoint with absolute certainty. Same thing with the handedness analogy - it's believed that genetics play a strong role but admit there may be other factors. That makes it relevant. Where do you get that statistic about the rate of homosexuality in the US? Do you think that increased tolerance towards gays may account for the fact that people are being more honest about their sexuality? In countries where gays are persecuted, there will likely be a reluctance for people to be as open. People also don't change their sexual preference like they change their clothes.

I suppose that asking you to back that patently absurd statement with some actual statistics would be futile.

Do you think that increased tolerance towards gays may account for the fact that people are being more honest about their sexuality? I got the statistic from Wikipedia - the USA was 5%+ homosexual, and the rest of the world, including the heaven that Sweden is said to be, had 2.5% or fewer... Given Sweden's status as the most wonderful, liberal place on earth (according to one poster here) "tolerance" has little to do with it.

Your sources are light on evidence, though they have the assertion part down pat. "One study said", and "another study said" - but where are the links to the studies, or even the names of those conducting them? I think I will go with this admission:

"One study said", and "another study said" - but where are the links to the studies, or even the names of those conducting them? I think I will go with this admission: OK, you have to be pulling my leg here. The first link gives links to all of its references at the bottom of the page. The second link links to the study it's referencing in the article itself and states who the authors were. Here is the link to the study scientificamerican.com references: www.pnas.org/content/105/27/9403 The third link is a link to an actual study, and the fourth link is a link to a meta-study that is reviewing many other studies on the subject. That you managed to gloss over all of this and managed to quote the one passage that happens to agree with your preconceived belief is as clear an example of confirmation bias as I've ever seen. Well done.

Well done. Fourth? You gave two links... and I am not persuaded, convinced, etc, and so I have "confirmation bias"? Ridiculous bigotry. It's because of games such as this that you have no credibility except amongst your clique.
