Matt,
Do you know the sites I am referring to? I'll post them later to give others a chance to find them first.

The actress site is much better than the actor site in that if gives more information.
Unfortunately, there is not enough information on these sites for me to use in a GG.
However, I have discovered some new movies to rent (from Amazon Prime) on these sites. ....movies that I had never head of before. ....One movie (that I had never heard of before) has two Best Actress nominees in it.

Oops, I was wrong. The one I was thinking of--that I had never seen before--had one Best supporting actress nominee and one best actress nominee.

There is a bit mystery with the first year of Oscars.
Janet Gaynor won for 7th Heaven (1927), Street Angel (1928) and Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927), at the 1929 Oscars. Did she win 3 different Oscars, or does it count as 1 Oscar, since they were at the same ceremony? Did she get 3 Oscar statuettes?
Emil Jannings won for The Last Command (1928) and The Way of All Flesh (1927) , at the 1929 Oscars. Did he win 2 different Oscars, or does it count as 1 Oscar, since they were at the same ceremony? Did she get 2 Oscar statuettes?
Or did the Academy say "tough luck", or something like that.

In 1944 Barry Fitzgerald was twice nominated for GOING MY WAY -- leading (against co-star Crosby) and supporting (which he won). After that, the rules changed -- one nomination only for same film, one nom in one category. Too bad -- because he took at least one nomination away from the guys in DOUBLE INDEMNITY (MacMurray as lead, Edward G. for supporting). Performers have been nominated in both performance categories in same year, though: Fay Bainter in 1938 (won for supporting) Teresa Wright in 1942 (won for supporting) Jessica Lange in 1982 (won for supporting) Holly Hunter in 1993 (won for lead) Jamie Foxx in 2004 (won for lead) Several others have lost in both categories in same year -- Sigourney Weaver, Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore

For example for Ruth Chatterton it says: For Janet Gaynor it says: In any case, Janet Gaynor only accounts for one of the total number of Oscar actress nominees in the OP. Just as Meryl Streep and Katharine Hepburn only account for one, each, in the overall total number count.

That's it Matt, total number of actors (or actress) nominated.
It doesn't matter if they won or lost OR, how many times they won or lost. I am looking for a site that lists the total number of people that were ever nominated.
P.S. The actor site is separate from the actress site. Two different sites, similar construction but different sites.
P.P.S. I just rented Come to the Stable after realizing that I had never seen it. Heard of it YES. Seen it NO.
I would also love to see Enemies: A Love Story but it is not cheap to buy.
I have read MANY of Isaac Bashevis Singer novels and love this Noble Prize-winning author.

Maybe good beginnings........... But, the sites I am referring to are up to date as of the last Oscar ceremony. Just saw The Glass Castle at the local multiplex. Looks possible for Woody. He dominates this performance. If he gets nominated, it wouldn't be for a supporting role HERE No holding back...it's Woody being Woody.
