Just watched NZ-England on catch up. It was very exciting indeed! I agree with the (albeit not entirely unbiased) commentators that test cricket is alive and well.

Nice summary of the final day in The a guardian: www.theguardian.com/sport/2023/feb/28/new-zealand-england-second-test-day-five-match-reportWhere better to start than the end? As Jimmy Anderson, 40 years young and 179 Tests on the clock, walked out to join Jack Leach after Ben Foakes had fallen for a defiant 35, the ground was transfixed. Seven runs needed, nine wickets down, was Anderson’s recent insistence he had no interest in ever hitting the winning runs – “I don’t like batting, simple as that” – about to end with that famous frown upside down? It wasn’t to be. Despite crunching his fourth ball through mid-wicket for four in a calculated charge, and seeing a perilous single from Leach then make it just two runs to win, Anderson could only stand there looking guilty when, at 4.05pm local time, the lightest of tickles down leg off Neil Wagner flew into Tom Blundell’s gloves to spark jubilant scenes for the Black Caps and their supporters. Anderson had wondered whether Wagner’s previous ball – a bumper – was in fact a wide but after five undulating days and such a nail-biting finale, it wasn’t the story. No hard feelings followed. These two teams get on famously, England having been influenced so heavily by their hosts in recent times. Both sets of players knew how fortunate they were when the line of handshakes snaked across the outfield.

All this Guardian stuff Carl. What are you, some pinko communist?
Admittedly it's better than yahoo sports. Headine: Alyssa Healy speaks out after 'pathetic' act angers cricket world.
What could that be? Ball tampering? A particularly bad sledge? Maybe match fixing? Mankading? Surely something actually related to the sport? Of course not! They weren't nominated for the Team of the Year in the Laureus World Sports Awards. And that was written by Andy Reid, a man I did group assignments with at CSU while studying journalism. Lift your game Andy.

FYI: I read it too, the Oz one anyway.

Australian cricket media is getting harder and harder to read as the years go on.
It’s either navel gazing idiocy, old men yelling at clouds or pompous verbosity masquerading as intellectual superiority. Actual coverage is usually straightforward and concise, but the editorials and columns are so poor it beggars belief.

Would have thought Australia rolling India for 109 and being well on the way to an unassailable lead might have rated a mention but a surprising amount of silence. I didn't see it. Was too busy finding somewhere to sleep on a 12 hour layover at Changi Airport. I hear the pitch was exploding from the second over.

Really enjoy their podcast where Lalor constantly apologises for his columns. I don't really read cricket columns tbh. Not even sure who Geoff Lawson's writing for now if anyone. Malcolm Knox is still at the 9 papers as far as I know. He really did come across as an old man yelling at clouds at times. He did write an excellent column about inconvenient grief when people were criticising the Hughes family for requesting a Coroner's inquest in 2016.

Australia throw away their advantage yet again - this time losing 6/12 to be bundled out for 197 - a lead of 88.
If India scramble to 200 - they’ll win.
Australia literally doesn’t want to be chasing anything more than 50 in the 4th innings

Stumps day 2 - And Australia need 76 to win.
History says that Australia should get there, but I have it 55-45 to India.
That’s how little faith I have in Australia’s batting on these surfaces.
Meanwhile the Windies have bundled out the South Africans for 116 to give themselves a chance at a chase, needing 247. Nit the best if starts though, 4/26…. That being said, Mayers, Holder and Da Silva have form in chases…. Big effort from here though…..

If they go it's tickets for the Windies, but if Blackwood and Holder keep their shit together they can propel their team to an unlikely win. Should be a fascinating afternoon at Centurion. Boom, there goes Holder, he's out off a peach of a ball from Rabada. 128 for 7. Is that it, or can Joseph stick around with Blackwood? I think the Aussies are going to win tomorrow, it'll be tough going, but if they display true grit they can get across the line.

South Africa blast out the Windies, Rabada showing his class.
Likewise Nathan Lyon - first Australian spinner to ever take 8 wickets in an innings twice. Considering Australia’s pedigree in this area, (Warne, Benaud, O’Reilly and Grimmett to name but a few) it’s a fair effort….

If it's 4-20 with those 3 gone though then it's 80/20 India.

I predict they’ll lose seven wickets before they reach the target.

Australia lose a wicket off the second ball. And a review as well. 1 for none. Khawaja gone.
I’ve got a horrible, sinking feeling about this….

Lyon was insanely good yesterday and other two spinners were very disciplined. It was a great innings by Pujara. I think Aussies deserve this victory here. They will win by 7 wickets i think
