To be honest...none.
I know that girl who sang that "Friday" song on the internet. Yeah, I guess I discovered her through the internet, but I discovered that she was awful.
- radio (particularly college radio), - going to clubs and hearing what the DJ played, - opening acts at concerts, - friends playing their favorite music, - the music press
Those were the ways in which bands were brought to me. Internet? Name one top artist who was discovered via the internet. Hell, at least "American Idol" produced a Kelly Clarkson or a Carrie Underwood. What the hell has the internet given us musically? Oh, yeah, "Friday, Friday, got to get down on Friday."

Probably quite a few more than I've listed below, to be honest, just through chatting about them on message boards. Certainly my first exposure to all these were via recommendations online:
Phil Ochs U.S. Maple Curse ov Dialect Sole Pearls Before Swine Gnaw Their Tongues The Goslings
I'd guess there's many more than that, my mind's just not what it was in my youth.

The internet, Youtube in particular, is where I discover ALL the albums I buy. I have used Youtube as my "radio station" at least as far back as 2010. I've listed all my recent discoveries over on the Rock forum. Since we have a bit of overlap in our musical tastes, e.g., I own Edguy's "Hellfire Club", I encourage you to check out these threads:

The internet can also help acts be re-discovered. My newest favorites who are deceased now are from when I was a little kid:
Steve Sanders of the Oak Ridge Boys Billy Joe Royal
God bless you and their families always!!!

Not sure if this counts, because most bans I have heard of outside the web, but I never heard their music until I got on-line.

Well, I am not particularly a fan of his but you do realise Justin Beiber was discovered on You Tube and he is one of the most successful and biggest selling artists of the past decade. Adele, Carly Rae Jepsen, 5 Seconds of Summer, Halestorm, Lee Brice, Luke Bryan, Cody Simpson, Arnel Pineda (Journey), Cassadee Pope (Before the Voice with her band, Hey Monday) etc are other artists and bands who got their start thanks to sites like You Tube and Myspace.

Thanks. I will check them out. I think I remember seeing some of your posts on the Music boards on IMDB. You probably did see my posts on the IMDb. In fact, the 2015 and 2016 threads were first posted in the IMDb Rock forum. I recreated those threads when I first got here, and have indicated with NEW albums that have been added since then. The 2017 thread, however, is content exclusive to the IMDB v2.0.

tpfkar Pretty much everything. I probably only had top 40/100 radio and followed 20-30 bands/artists before blogs in the mid '00s (and a bit of similar artists / associated acts on Allmusic) and then later youtube and a couple of websites. Youtube is great, if they don't keep trying to make things harder. Little Man

Tons of stuff through Mutant Sounds and various other blogs, so I had no problems w/ illegal downloads (though I do prefer to have legit hardcopies)
a handful of others I was quite well known for liking...
The Sods/Sort Sol (allmusic) Television Personalities (rateyourmusic) Amon Duul II (PCQgod or Infofreak, one of the two) Harmonia (rateyourmusic) The Sound (Darkness Fish, I think)
