I'm thinking of consolidating all music boards into this one and moving it to the General Boards category.
Thoughts?

I'm thinking of consolidating all music boards into this one and moving it to the General Boards category. Thoughts? I would advise against that approach. As I wrote over here: Music has specific time periods and specific genres, each with limited appeal. Lumping everything together would make it difficult, if not impossible, to find threads of interest. For example, "Music General" is hard enough for me to shift through today - since a lot of it relates to bands and/or genres I'm not interested in. If you were to add in all the threads for "Blues, Jazz & Soul", "Classical Music", "Country", "Electronic, Techno & Dance", "Hip-Hop & Rap", "Rock" and "Soundtracks and Scores", the average kitchen junk drawer would look like the epitome of organization by comparison.

As of now, on this board, there are a mere 6 threads with a post in the last 24 hours, and this is by far the busiest of the Music Boards. With that in mind, I think it's more than reasonable to consolidate them.
I am happy for them to stay segregated if that's what the majority of posters prefer however.
Perhaps you could add a YAY or NAY poll to this thread.

Forgot the other music boards were out there. You might want to move the least active ones.

Doesn't bother me. This is the only one I use.

It might help the traffic flow with more conversations concentrated upon one music board, covering a range of different musical styles.

Fair point, but let's be honest here: The other boards in the Music category are not very popular, and that's an understatement. Look at the numbers. I don't think consolidating them into one board would make it any less "disorganized" than Music General is now. Personally, I've never been a fan of categorizing music into specific genres. A lot of music doesn't fit into one genre, and there are a gazillion different genres from which to choose, and that's not even mentioning the sub-genres of those genres.

No one it seems has complained about the Music Boards the way they are now so there really seems to be no point in going through the fuss. They seem fine the way they are so let them stay that way. At least when individuals want to go into a specific area they know where to look and will not have to search through pages of threads for the topic or genre they want. I like it as it is.

I'd like to clean up the home page a little bit. It's something I've been wanting to do for quite some time. What would you think about sub-boards for the genres, then?

That would probably be the best solution for it. It serves both purposes.

Admin , as you may recall, on that other site each user could customize their own "Favorites" page. Is there a ProBoards equivalent? If there was, I think the pressure to consolidate would be far less; each user could create an interface of just those boards that appeal to them.

Unfortunately, only threads can be bookmarked here, not boards. It's stupid, I know. But you can bookmark individual boards in your browser. Sometime tonight, I may consolidate all the music boards into sub-boards under a Music heading in the General Boards category.

Sometime tonight, I may consolidate all the music boards into sub-boards under a Music heading in the General Boards category. I like the idea of having one board called, something like: "Music", on the home page... I hate having to search all over the website for multiple conversations on multiple boards about similar topics. However, I still think the different varieties of music, and their eras, need to be kept separate. I too, would not like to dig through thread after thread to find one type of music on ONE sub-board. Please try to structure the website, to have as many Sub-Boards as possible, something like this: Home
- Music
- - Big Band - - Blues - - Civil War - - Country - - Disco - - Easy Listening - - Heavy Metal - - Hip Hop - - Opera - - Patriotic - - Rock - - Soundtracks - - Scores - - ETC. - - ETC. ETC. - - ETC. ETC. ETC.Maybe for now, it might be easier for you to just move all the existing boards, and place them under one main board. Remember, you can have Sub-Sub-Boards, and Sub-Sub-Sub-Boards, ETC. Too... - - Rock
- - - 1950s - - - 1960s - - - 1970s - - - 1980s - - - 1990s - - - 2000s - - - 2010sThe etceteras are never-ending. The line has to be drawn somewhere. Civil War music? I'm sure that would be a big hit. lol. And besides, I think most people prefer a cleaner design, and definitely not a home page seven miles long. I know I do, anyway. Not only for aesthetic reasons, but practical reasons as well. For example: imdb2.freeforums.net/thread/57426/sports-board-moved-listingsI use a square monitor, so I have more vertical space than most, which is why an issue such as that one never occurred to me.

If I just move them, the links themselves shouldn't change. I know they don't with threads, anyway.

As for the boards we'll find out. Thanks. EDIT: The move is done and all my bookmarks still work!
