I liked Antman myself, I thought it was different enough but not so different that it felt like it wasn't part of the MCU, people will complain about a whole slew of things in the MCU films most of which this film addressed or played to, why does every MCU film have some sort of massive threat to deal with, well in Antman it wasn't a major threat but a personal conflict, why don't they call the Avengers, this is stated outright in the film by Antman and even the reason why they don't is given what with Pym's issue with Stark and the other founders of shield.
Also given how much things got shook up and the lack of time they had to get a new director & crew, rewrite the script, film and post-produce it, which was all of about a year from when Wright left to when the film was released it was a pretty decent movie.
For Antman & The Wasp I think theres reason to be optimistic, this time it's a "proven" team who in less than a year made a $500m grossing film and it's a property that is now far better known, which means they can do more things, they can have more leeway where as before Wright tried getting it done his way and he got the boot so no one was going to try and throw their weight around after the last guy got shit canned for it, now however they can because Marvel know these people can make a film lots of people will see.
