This seems like a good site, but I do miss the individual boards for shows and movies. I never really used the general boards on IMDb.

Does anyone have any info on how badly the decision to shut down the boards has affected IMBD so far? Please tell me they're bleeding cash as we speak.

Maybe whoever created this site can create individual actor, actresses, tv shows, & film message boards? Really, all he needs to do is create a forum section titled something like "Boards for individual films and people" (or something along those lines) and users can create a thread on there about the movie/person that they want to talk about. After all, users are not going to talk about every single movie ever made. Just the particular movie(s) that they want to discuss at the time. There's no need to create a section like that for tv shows, because there already are threads for specific tv shows in the tv section of the forum. And if the show doesn't already have a thread on there, you can create one.

Love the site. Sorry I am not on it enough. But still thanks for those who miss the boards.

This site has potential but it needs to become like the original IMDB with the individual boards for each film and tv series including the obscure [and it has to become much better known]. i don't know how much has been archived but what made the original site great was everyone knew about it and i got the impression that the makers of film and tv would look at the boards of what they were involved with and get ideas of why people like something or not. that was surely a good thing. Obviously the owners of IMDB now don't like free speech. that's what it mainly boils down to. Hollywood definitely looked at the imdb.com message boards. You know how celebrities will sometimes do that whole "read mean tweets that people had wrote about them" on talk shows. Matt Damon did something similar to that in May 2013 on a talk show (I think it was a night time one?). He read comments from one of the threads on his imdb.com message board on a talk show. I looked up the thread, and was shocked that he actually was directly quoting those comments word for word! For the life of me I cannot find a clip of it on youtube for some reason. Interesting. maybe it was on YT but got removed?

The individual boards were especially useful for very old movies. On the one for Jason and the Argonauts, Todd Armstrong's son posted years back to point out the brief scene in the movie where his father's actual voice is heard (when he shouts to drop the net on the Harpies). That kind of feedback is impossible to replicate. You simply won't get the gravitation to a new site. It's like the first stop on a highway.

I hope it disappears up it's own arse but the boards closing probably won't affect it unfortunately. I think the owners [Amazon who have ties with government and other big corporations] probably viewed it as an inconvenience and couldn't wait to shut it down. they only like free speech when it suits them.

Stuff like that is great so that's a good point. i posted on the JATA board myself but didn't realise that.

I absolutely love this forum and I believe it's easily the best replacement board to IMDb. I have to say though that the thing I really miss about IMDb that doesn't seem to be replicated on any site is that after I watched an obscure movie from decades ago I could go to the message boards and chat with other people who have seen it and may have caught things that I didn't. That's what I loved more than anything, the individual boards for every movie and actor. Other websites have tried to copy that and even managed to archive some of the old posts, but those places are not very active sadly. I am glad this site exists, but I'm still sad that IMDb made this decision. I miss that too. There are still times when I watch something and I catch myself going there to discuss it or see what others have to say and then it hits me that its gone. It was such a habit and I guess it will take a while to go away.

I tend to watch pretty old, vintage type stuff, TV and movies. So it was always a great place to pop on and connect. That's the part I like. The connecting and feedback with others watching the same thing.

Sometimes under 20 or less than 5 so it would be hard to sometimes even find posts about certain movies but at least before there was a chance. On any new site there arent enough people for there to be posts on movies like that and the ones that claim they archived 'everything' I search for things that are a bit more obscure but not even super rare and there are no posts. I also miss reading to get recs for things like horror movies because on here I would probably get recs for very common things I have already seen or at least know about.

Looking at the sharp drop in the alexa rank of traffic to imdb is making me feel better, knowing that the reason for that is the closure of the boards.
This site is definitely the most active out of the spin offs. I just wish it had more specific boards. Sci fi films sub section for a start would be great.

Great site! Also it has a Chrome extension that actually puts the film forums back on IMDB which means now that IMDB looks exactly the same as it used to! That also means that if IMDb has any plans of litigation, that site will more than likely be at the top of the list. It also means traffic stats would go back up for IMDb, losing any boycott effect and making them think it didn't make a difference after all to close the boards. I don't want to give IMDb my traffic; if we all keep avoiding it they will see the change in visits.

Oh god yes, in fact industry people of all kinds frequented the IMDb message boards more than most people know or imagine or would believe, and I don't mean trolls faking identities. On the day the boards shut down one very famous actor whose posts I had always seen around the boards I was a regular of, and who had always alluded to being an actor and having a career, though he downplayed it, told us who he was. There is a director who regularly posted on one board and everyone knew who he was. I've run across multiple real actors and directors usually posting on the board for their particular movies and projects. Casper Van Dien used to be a regular. Michael Biehn actually had long arguments with a troll on his IMDb board and it kind of became legend. Years ago David Duchovny admitted on a talk show (Leno I think it was) that he googles himself and looks at message boards, and once visited a fan site and contacted them; they didn't believe it was him but published the email anyway. He said it was all him. Many of these folks aren't too busy to get curious.

It needs growth. The broadband wouldn't support that right now and would need donations. The boards could in time be popular enough and grow into what imdb was. It will take patience and promotion. Or investors. With IMDb gone, I would actually be very interested in that.

Who was the director, and what did Biehn and the Troll fight about..could almost be a movie title Michael Biehn vs the Troll. I'd watch it

I also had interaction with some obscure actors such as Jay McKenna who was sort of an extra on many old western shows such as Bonanza, The Virginian, etc. He's in his 80's now. All the history is now lost, this is what riles me the most. You were actually able to communicate with the past and now they are dying off (especially last year and this year) and all those little tidbits about their lives are all vanished. To actually replicate a board like IMDb would be a massive undertaking and would take years and years even with hundreds of volunteers. Maybe it's something someone should approach Bill Gates with.....he is always looking for somewhere to spend his money and do something useful. I'm sure even Mr. Spielberg would want to preserve all the Movie/ TV history....better yet, just buy IMDb away from Amazon and put it back the way it was.

The director was Greg Pritikin, who was posting on the board for his film Dummy -- he answered some questions about the exact filming locations if I recall correctly. The actor I was talking to the day the boards died -- I'm still hoping he will come over here and to some of the other places, as I invited/encouraged him to -- so I'd hate to make him feel like he can't start again with his anonymity if he wanted to! He was in some huge movies, one of which is a modern classic, but he played himself down a lot; I used to think from his posts that he was a struggling bit-part guy! But it turned out he's not. He was so friendly on the boards. I wish he'd join us again. Maybe he has.
