I absolutely love this forum and I believe it's easily the best replacement board to IMDb. I have to say though that the thing I really miss about IMDb that doesn't seem to be replicated on any site is that after I watched an obscure movie from decades ago I could go to the message boards and chat with other people who have seen it and may have caught things that I didn't. That's what I loved more than anything, the individual boards for every movie and actor. Other websites have tried to copy that and even managed to archive some of the old posts, but those places are not very active sadly. I am glad this site exists, but I'm still sad that IMDb made this decision.

I understand what you're saying. With IMDb ANYTHING could be watched and discussed, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. I do like this site though and it is new, so maybe in the future?

Yeah, you never know what might happen in the future. I don't suppose we have enough members to justify boards for every single movie and actor yet lol.

General discussion can be replaced but having a forum for each and every film or TV show (and the people that worked to make them), no matter how obscure, is a significant loss and difficult to recreate. Although the bulk of them were fairly inactive, occasionally you'd find something interesting to read and make you view the film in a different light or even just some amusing trolling picking the film apart. I don't see such a feature ever working well by itself but it was the cherry on top of the IMDb sundae that made the site that much more engaging and worth revisiting.

True. I always enjoyed coming on IMDb after watching the latest episode of Walking Dead or Bates Motel. But the main thing I loved is that even the more obscure and older movies had boards. Very glad this site exists though

After the latest episode of Bates Motel I wanted to read discussion on it so I went to Twitter

The worst part is that IMDb went down the same day season 5 of Bates Motel started. That really sucked as it's my favourite show atm. I had to use reddit to see people's reactions. Not a great lover of that site although it does serve a purpose.

Not a great lover of that site although it does serve a purpose. If you go under "Television" here on these boards there's a board named "Popular Series and Fan Favorites". There's a Bates Hotel thread started there along with threads for a lot of individual shows. If your show doesn't have a thread you can start one.

I used to passionately read the individual movie boards, even for films I had no intention of seeing. I don't think I will look for a substitute site. I'll just get un-used to reading the movie boards and use the time to do other stuff.

If you're getting IMDb withdrawal symptoms a fellow member on here created what appears to be a complete archive of everything from IMDb. Pretty great if I may say so. www.imdbarchive.com/

Yeah it has been hard for me as well. after every single movie or Show I watched I used to go directly to the Imdb boards and check out the discussions. the movie DB has individual boards but they are all empty.

This is the problem and that's why the owners of IMDB are such gits for closing the message boards. These big corporations and many people in governments would like to censor the entire internet and closing IMDB is part of it.

I have said this before. I guess I can understand them getting rid of the regular boards. But they should have left the movie and individual actors and actresses message boards open.
After all IMDB stands for Internet MOVIE Data Base.

I agree. Even after watching the latest episode of a current TV show. It was nice to be able to go to that show's board and discuss what had happened or to see the obscure theories that people had about certain plots or characters. To discuss what worked what didn't etc. ON Friday night I watched a film with some friends at their house. The Age of Adaline (2015) IMDb link www.imdb.com/title/tt1655441/ It is a wonderful film. It would have been nice to have seen what others thought of the film.

I miss that too; it was actually my number one use of IMDb. After I had seen a movie -- however old or new -- or a TV show, I came straight to IMDb not because of its proprietary information profile page, but to go straight to the message board to see what people had ever been saying about that film or show.
They are adding archived boards and threads to MovieChat.org and if enough of us start using those, they will soon fill out. Apparently the owner has many more archived that will be loaded up in future, so it looks like a lot was saved.
