Hi Stefancrosscoe
How are you going today and have you had a good week? Thank you for saying that and being a busy person myself I might take a few days to reply to your posts some weeks too but know I will get back to you when I have time and don’t plan on leaving again. I like this thing we have got going here with our two different posts too ‘cause it gives our posts a little variety and hope it is not confusing ‘cause we can go back to one if that is easier for you. We are going to the zoo tomorrow with my Sister and her family and I am excited about going but I am feeling a little nervous at the same time since it has been so long since we have been to a big place like this with a lot of people but it is time we get back to living our lives like normal people again ‘cause the pandemic has taken enough months away from us we can’t get back and now things have improved here and we haven’t had any recent clusters it is the safest it has been for ages and were you nervous about going out again?
I am glad you had a good time in the city apart from passing the demonstration you almost got stuck in and it is pretty rare when we have anything like that in our town and that is more the type of thing we would see in Sydney but occasionally we get protests here over things being built, torn down and sold to private and foreign companies by the state government. It is dumb when demonstrations get violent and protesters attack people and destroy private property and it is often the innocent people passing by minding their own business that get hurt and the very same thing happens when we have had brawls which is why it safe to stay away from them. At least the demonstration turned out to be a peaceful one and my Sister and I have protested in the past but none of the ones we were involved in turned violent at any point and violent protesters sadly give a bad reputation to all of the peaceful protesters that just want their voices to be heard and we have had some real deplorable ones in our country that have attacked animals at demonstrations to get the media to pay attention to them and I remember hearing about some that were attacking horses with weapons in Victoria. The week went by, well, pretty good (for most of the time) and rather fast. Enjoyed a few movies, ate some good food, watched a bit of the Eurovision Song Contest along with my dad, and I thought (for the first time, in ages) that the best song, actually ended up winning it all. I was never the biggest fan of Eurovision, but it has kind of been a tradition, to watch it, either with my mum or dad, or both, as long as I can remember. Anyway, I also got a scare, when learning that my mum had to visit the emergency room, last night. She has a problem with getting sudden panic attacks, which causes her to get very heavy breathing problems, and I did not like some of the things she told me, so hopefully, she will get checked up, very soon and to make sure that nothing serious is causing her to get these breathing issues. I don't mind, having these kind of conversations/chats, as it is quite nice to get a chance of having both a bit going, about music, and then about something else. What you said, about how the pandemic has taken so much time and potential memories away from us, I often come back to think of that, as I guess many will, either now or later on, when it might be too late, for some. I kind of feel a bit "guilty", as I should probably have called and visited certain family members, more frequently, but with all these regulations and rules, and things is not supposed to be "easy". Thankfully, I have daily contact with both of my parents, sadly not as much as I would like to, with my brother, and a few others, but from what I understand, they are safe for now. Anyway, last week, we finally got the news, that the local gyms and most of the things we often took for granted, will re-open later this week. I am not so sure, I will be heading towards the gym, not because I am scared or kind of worried, but I just love to run and cycle or take long walks in the wilderness/forest, and the sounds and smells coming from the forest, as we reach closer towards summer, it is such a nice time, to just be able of heading outdoor, instead of working out, in a sweaty and stressful indoor gym local. I hope you and your family will have great time at the zoo. I have not visted a zoo, since, well, ages ago. But I do get to met up with some animals, not counting dogs and cats but during my runs out in the wild, I often see foxes, badgers, toads, owls, ducks, geeses, mooses, deer and while I do not see it (very few does) I certainly can hear it, the scandinavian lynx cat (I think it is called), but of course, these are all ordinary animals, still, it is kind of neat, living so close to them, and I often can hear the sounds of all kind of differeren type of creatures, late at night. Yep, we are hopefully close to coming to a place, where we can get back to our normal life, but I still have a feeling, it might take a bit longer, before getting there. Speaking of demonstrations, I respect and admire those who will try to reach out, specially when it is important issues and that needs to be heard, but so many times, sadly, a small group of violent people, tend to steal the headlines, but thankfully these cases, seems to have gotten lesser and lesser, at least in my country. When we had Easter here last year it was just after the Prime Minister announced the Shutdown and we had really strong restrictions at the time and basically weren’t allowed to go anywhere except for work, to get groceries or exercise for a limited amount of time or we would get fined or arrested and a lot of people and businesses got fined last year for not following the rules here and Victoria got the most but there was controversy over some police officers taking things too far and being violent and aggressive to people but in our state it was our State Politicians who were often on the news getting caught out not following the rules and they wanted everybody else to follow them but thought they were above doing it themselves and were your Politicians like that? There was Politician in our State Government that resigned ‘cause he was caught out traveling around the state and staying in hotels and took his Wife on a holiday when none of us were supposed to travel outside our areas but it was only ‘cause he got fined and the Premier was going to fine him he chose to hand in his resignation.
I think our Politicians have mostly done a good job of handling the Coronavirus here which is why we can live our lives closer to normal than many other countries at the moment but they also made a lot of mistakes and some of those resulted in the virus getting worse for a while and more people dying than there should have been and both parties were to blame. It is surprising how nasty some people will get on the internet when they have the anonymity factor on their side and there are cyberbullies that thrive on putting other people down out of bitterness, jealousy, hate or in some cases their own sick and twisted form of entertainment and with the main one that targeted Sydney Sweeney I think they enjoy getting attention from people that defended her and their name was ‘ICunts’, by the way which I am surprised didn’t get their account deleted and they continued it for as long as they could and tried to claim they were being attacked by the people standing up for her ‘cause they were black and when that didn’t work they started calling her a pedophile. Thankfully Sydney returned to social media yesterday with a happy video and photos of her and isn’t letting nasty people like that scare her off the internet.
That is interesting about that Norwegian article or documentary you read and sad people those ages would invest so much time into doing that when they should know better but it shows what pathetic lives they must lead if their entire existence revolves around that and one thing that stood out to me on the IMDB Board about some of the worst goblins was they were literally spending 24 hours a day on the site and looking at their profiles there were pages of posts with posts every hour and I had no idea how anybody could have the time to do that without needing to stop to work, eat and sleep but it must have been their life which was insane and makes you wonder where those weirdos moved to after the old IMDB Board closed down ‘cause I think we were very lucky to miss out on getting some of the worst ones I remember on this forum ‘cause it is a more friendlier and peaceful place without them but I imagine there are somewhere else spewing their hate. Thanks for letting me know about your sports and music festivals and when the sports do return it is possible they might be crowdless and only air on TV or only allow small crowds and I don’t know if you are a fan of wrestling but I find it funny in a way how WWE was able to continue through the pandemic while heaps of other sports had to stop when wrestling is one of the most physical sports there is.
The fact, that not only are some of those "people" on the old IMDb board, still active with the same style and obvious "love" for their fellow people, but yeah, they seem to spread out, to other sites and places, with the same posting history and themes. I wonder how much of a "life" they actually have, beside as you mentioned, wasting days, weeks, months and years, just writing the same bullshit, all over again. Yep, this place is better in many cases. Still, I have noticed since I started up here, back in 2017, that there has been a few rotten apples, (I do not bother calling them out, as there is no need, since it is so obivous to see what is their main motivation and "drive") but they seem to always come back, under new names, but with the same old posting style and themes, and I think the best way to handle them, is in 9 out of 10 times, just to ignore/never bother writing/replying to their threads or posts. Pretty much, just treat them like air, or more like the bad air that is. Kind of like with the dogs who farts, and it smells "funny" for a certain time, but then it is gone, at least for now. Yeah, the norwegian football league (Eliteserien) has returned, and while I am not exactly a huge follower, they have played a few rounds now, and I believe there is a certain minimum or maximum, to how many people they can have in the crowds. WWE or Wrestling, I queen never became my favorite sports, but I remember that for a short time, norwegian tv, used to show a lot american wrestling back in the early to mid 90s. However, I do remember there were a certain Wrestling craze, going on at that time, with Hulk Hogan suddenly appearing with Mr. T, I think, in a few Baywatch episodes, and of course several wrestlers, would go on, to have quite a fruitful acting career, where I guess my favorites has to be Roddy Piper and Jesse Ventura, who featured in some all time classic 80s action and sci-fi films. Hulk Hogan, probably the biggest star, well, his solo career as a potential leading man, heading into the same kind of roles as Arnie and Sly, well, that never went really well, but he made a few fun films, and cameos as well. Yeah, it sadly does not help, how kind and gentle your own dogs or pets are and behave, if one suddenly is outdoors, and is met up with a dog with a bad owner, and yeah, I think there are really no bad dogs, just a whole lot of very bad or horrible owners, who should never be allowed to have dogs or pets, in the first place. The most lethal or "dangerous" snake, we got in Norway, is the huggorm or common european viper. I have only seen it a few times, mostly lying in the sun, but I think very few people actually dies, from getting bitten by it. And even then, it might be some underlying health issues, that could be the reason to why certain people end up becoming so ill. I have never been afraid of snakes, but of course, things would most likely be very different, if we had the type of snakes, that you guys have down in Australia, as I remember an animal book, I loved as kid, and it said something about that most of the lethal and dangerous snakes, were usually found in Australia, rather than Africa or other countries. Speaking of a-ha, I think they "suffered" by being labeled as a "one hit wonder" in certain countries, where as in others, they have sold an ridiculous amount of records, and are probably among the best selling acts of the 80s and early 90s. I believe they really hit off well, in South America, and played for some of the biggest paying audience during their heyday. As of right now, I remember reading just a few days ago, in a norwegian newspaper, that a new movie or documentary, about a-ha, might happen soon. Might be one of those, that I will hopefully get to see at the cinemas, somewhere in the future. On why XTC never got bigger, I remember someone wrote about them, as being a bit too "clever" for their own good, when trying to appeal a more commercial audience. Not sure if that was how the band wanted it to go, but for me, I think they were very melodic and catchy, but take away the live performances and constant touring, that will surely be very hard to reach for a broader audience, specially when you do not have a radio hit, to back it up with. But I guess they usually always got very good reviews, and word of mouth, seemed to always make way for these kind of special and original acts during the 80s. Europe is a band, I only have heard a little bit from, here and there. But yeah, they were probably one of the biggest bands from scandinavia during the 80s, and it is nice that they are still going strong. As I remember seeing a litte short cut, I think from a documentary, about heavy metal or rock music of the 70s and 80s, and a few nasty critics, dismissed bands like Europe, as someone, who would never survive or last for very long, but I guess they proved otherwise. As always, glad to read your replies, and we will surely catch up sooner or later, and make sure you have great time at the zoo (damn, typical, I guess you already had, as while I am writing this, I am a few days late). Anyway, I have recently picked up a few albums, some I have heard before, and others, not. Still, I quite enjoyed the follow up, to Bat Out of Hell, by Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman. Not sure if any of those have been mentioned, or I might have forgotten. But I thought I should post a few of those I believe were among the many stand out tracks, from Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell (1993): Life Is A Lemon And I Want My Money BackLove how it sounds like a mash-up, between Bon Jovi and Queen, with lots of heavy guitars and Meat Loaf is really delivering the goods with his vocals. Well, the ladycat did grow old, and had a very comforting and nice life, as she were given to my mum, from one of her co-workers, and while she was just a little kitten, she got bullied a lot, by the others siblings, but over time, she grew very confident and became quite "bossy" towards her male cat friend. I guess something about the bullying part, still sat with her, even as she got much older. But yeah, she had a good life, considering all the love she got and care. But yeah, it is sad when it happens, and you realize there is no going back. Oh yeah, I remember well, how my dog used to be very frightened of certain sounds/noises (specially fireworks and thunder, so in a way we had a few of the same fears, as I also never were all that "brave" during thunderclouds or loud and sudden fireworks/noises), while others, would annoy and bring forward the inner "wolf" in her, and yeah, she hated cats (especially the neighbour cat), and sometimes, she got very close to catching a few, while we were off guard. Thankfully, she never hurted them, nor did she got hurt either. But towards humans, she was always cozy and friendly, never once bitten anyone, and I loved coming home from school, and being greeted by a friendly face, who was always glad to see me. My grandfather always joked about farting jokes as well, which did not sit too well, with my grandmother. However, I remember an old friend of my grandfather, had an old dog, and it used to let out some silent "killers", which smelled like, well, nasty stuff, and it took very long time, until the aired cleared it out of the room. And sometimes, the dog would almost look like it was smiling, right afterwards. Like, "Yeah, how do you like that?" My uncle had a few dogs as well, and the last one, also used to let out lots of gas, and sometimes it would stink up the place, so much that you almost craved for some fresh air. But, nobody wanted to tell off the dog, especially my uncle, who was very gentle with animals, but once in a while, he got more than enough of the smelly dog farting, and just told the dog, to be off, and it seemed like it took the message, and disappeared for a long while. With the Grunge explosion there were a number of Glam Metal bands I remember that tried to switch to playing Grunge and they lost more fans doing it ‘cause they alienated the ones that stayed with them and Skid Row was the last of the American Glam Metal bands to have success in the early 90s but after they lost their lead singer, Sebastian Bach were never able to recapture their success. Some 70s and 80s Rock Artists and bands were still able to pull through with big hits in the early 90s like Bon Jovi and Aerosmith who we were just talking before and there was John Farnham’s ‘Burn For You’, The Pretenders’ ‘I’ll Stand By You’, ‘Heart’s ‘All I Want to Do Is Make Love to You’, ‘Scorpions ‘Wind of Change’, Alice Cooper’s ‘Poison’, ‘The Cure’s ‘Friday I’m In Love’, ‘Kiss’ ‘Forever’ and ‘Billy Joel’s ‘The River of Dreams’ that all got a lot of airplay here in the early 90s but Grunge was largely the end of Glam Metal and New Wave getting mainstream airplay.
The problem with Grunge was I don’t think it was ever really accepted by the mainstream and that is one of the reasons a lot of the Bands aren’t played on radio stations today and when you look back it was actually the Alternative Rock bands that came after Grunge and were influenced by it but took a more mainstream approach like Better Than Ezra, Collective Soul, The Goo Goo Dolls, The Offspring, No Doubt, Tonic, Veruca Salt, Stone Temple Pilots, Live, Soul Asylum, Garbage, Oasis, Blur, Ash, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Matchbox 20, Bif Naked, Everclear, Counting Crows, Smash Mouth etc that were the ones that ended up on top of the Rock charts for most of the 1990s but even a lot of those aren’t played on radio much anymore or acknowledged by Music Journalists ‘cause they prefer to focus on Britney Spears, Mariah Carey the Spice Girls, Destiny’s Child and Boy Bands despite them being very popular and a lot of Classic Rock Radio Stations look at Grunge the same way they look at Metal and are worried playing bands like Alice In Chains and Iron Maiden will turn listeners who prefer to hear Elton John, David Bowie, The Eagles and Chicago away if they play it ‘cause of how different it is.
When Glam Metal came back in the 00s a lot of the newer bands like Wig Wam, Babylon Bombs, the Poodles, Crashdiet, Crazy Lixx, Vains of Jenna and Dirty Penny said in their interviews they wanted to make Metal fun again like it was when they were young and were sick of all the depressive lyrics that were coming out of American Metal Bands and Glam Metal was a genre everybody could get behind ‘cause it was about living, love, sex, partying and having a good time and a lot of the old Glam Metal bands that hadn’t released new albums since the early 90s started getting back together and putting out new music and touring too and it was a similar story with the new Melodic Rock/ AOR bands that started popping up in the same decade but a lot of them just wanted to play the music they grew up listening to and keep the genre alive for new and old fans and not be forced to sound the way Major record labels wanted them to sound and that is when Frontiers Records started getting a lot of sales and become the number one record label for Melodic Rock and many of the bands the owners were fans of signed with them and Frontiers Records now has the likes of Journey, Whitesnake, Toto, Blue Oyster Cult, Night Ranger, Ted Poley, Styx, Uriah Heep, Richard Marx, Harem Scarem, Joe Lynn Turner, and Yes along with many new Artists and Bands. I guess the sudden change in the music climate, with new fashion trends, music genres and so on, would sooner or later also have strucken the biggest acts in the grunge era, and there is no guarantee, that bands like Nirvana would have emerged out of that, still on top with both sales and critical acclaim, but it is sad, that we never got another studio album out of them, as I liked their move away from Nevermind, towards In Utero, which also divided a lot of the fanbase, but that was probably always gonna be the case. I find it interesting, those bands, who kind of got "caught" up, in all of the sudden change, from more metal music dominance, to alternative rock, and where some bands like Alice in Chains or Soundgarden, surely were a bit of both worlds, and came out of it, with huge success, where as others, probably either faded away or just never stood much of a chance. It would be a bit strange or weird, if alternative and more heavy rock music, would "scare" off David Bowie fans. But maybe those who only have heard or like his more pop-friendly stuff during the Lets Dance era, but a lot of the music he did during the late 70s and early 80s, along with Brian Eno and Robert Fripp, surely were of much inspiration towards many of the young and upcoming indie and metal acts of the 80s and 90s, and it is no surprise, as Bowie really hit off, with some very loud and aggressive guitar dominated releases, where specially Fripp were providing some absolute monsterous riffs, along with the "alien" sounds of Eno. Yeah, I guess not many would start up a conversation, when describing or looking back at the grunge era, as "fun", at least in the same way as what fun might have been thought of, only a few years earlier, during the late 80s. But of course, it must have been a blast, to get the chance of going to a show back then, featuring some of those artists, in their prime. At least, before it all went on the commercial radar, and the energy and drive were something new and different, but I guess all of these things, happens in cycles. What is new, is old the next day, and the money men, will soon find something other, to cash in on, for a while, until people get tired of it, or things cool down. I have never seen Godspell, but I might look it up. Sadly, I also has to say the same about the other music related films you brought up. I guess I have my movie work, cut out, for a while. Yep, Iris is still a huge radio hit, and where the film, well, is rarely shown on tv or spoken of. However, I have seen both the german original, and the american remake. Gotta say, I thought both films had their highs and "lows". The german one, was kind of "slow", and I never really cared too much of the characters, but some very beautiful shots and scenery, where as the updated one, is surely very different, but not something I felt hurted the plot. Also I am quite a fan of Denis Franz, so it was nice to see him in one of the roles, as well. Yeah, the Bond movies with John Barry, those just hit home, a bit closer than the ones, without his talent. It felt like the end of a era, when he left off, with The Living Daylights, just a with Roger Moore with A View to a Kill. But I am glad to have started picking up a few of these great sounding 007 soundtracks, and will surely be hunting down a few more, sooner or later. Being stuck in video games, specially ones, where it looks so "easy", and then it all gets everything but that. Could drive one a bit crazy, at times, and yeah, maybe a little time-out, is the way to go, instead of continuing on, being more and more frustrated. Speaking of Cocteau Twins, I cannot say for certain, that you would like or enjoy their music, but I feel at least, for now, after having fallen completely in love with their 1990 album, Heaven or Las Vegas, and picking up their 1988 album, Blue Bell Knoll, I think the best way to describe their music or sound, is breathtakingly dreamy and beautiful, and where these two cuts, have been going on and on, for, well a long time now. I believe they started up, sounding far more heavy, with post-punk music, but moved on, in favor of making what many calls or labels as, "Dream-pop", which is not a bad way of putting it. Suckling the Mender (1988)Fifty-fifty Clown (1990)Anyway, I hope you have a good week, and I got a few days too late, this time. But will try to be a bit more updated, as it have been a few "hectic" days, with the nathional day (17 may) and some family dinners, but thanks for the kind reply, and will be keeping in touch later on. As always, glad to read your replies, and we will surely catch up sooner or later, and make sure you have great time at the zoo (damn, typical, I guess you already had, as while I am writing this, I am a few days late). Anyway, I have recently picked up a few albums, some I have heard before, and others, not. Hi Stefancrosscoe
It’s nice to see you again and I hope everything has been going well on your end this week and Beccy and I had a fantastic time at the zoo with my family on the weekend and we got to see many animals we haven’t seen for a long time such as Koalas, Penguins, Elephants, Kangaroos, Chimpanzees, Seals, Giraffes, Gorillas, Meerkats and Wombats among other animals and you don’t realise just how much you miss certain places until you can’t go to them and zoos were one of those places for me I love to go to ‘cause I am animal lover (of cute and friendly ones. Not the scary ones ) and my Baby Niece (Kylie) liked seeing the animals too and we think Kangaroos were her favourite so we got her a plush toy of a Kangaroo and she seems to really like that and my Sister told me she had been cuddling and playing with it and I can’t wait to see her again tomorrow night. We are going to take my other Niece (Courtney) to the cinemas to see a movie next month and I am not sure what yet but am hoping they have something she will like and are there any new movies you are looking forward to seeing?
Awww! That is sad about the kitten getting bullied a lot when she was younger but I am glad she had a very comforting and nice life with your Mum when she was older and thankfully our pets get along with each other here and there is no fighting between them and our cat, Vulpix who is our oldest pet wasn’t really sure about our Malshis (Occy and Sally) when we first got them and I think she thought they were a bit annoying ‘cause they were pretty wild back then and were often wanting to play () but she has gotten used to them. Vulpix hates bugs though especially cockroaches and spiders and if we have one of those in our house and she sees it she will literally jump into action and be whacking them until they are dead and it is funny but scares the crap out of me some days when I am sitting at the table and she does it out of the blue and Beccy thinks I might have caused that ‘cause when I kill a bug like that I will hit it multiple times with something just to make sure it is dead ‘cause I watched enough Horror movies to know the scary things always come back so if it doesn’t work whack them again.
It is sad when a beloved pet passes away ‘cause they become a part of your life and I don’t think cats and dogs get to live long enough and some people might think that sounds silly but it just feels unfair and it would be nice if they could live longer. It is cute seeing their reactions when you get home and they are so happy and excited just to see you and I don’t know how but Occy and Sally seem to know what time Beccy usually comes home from work and on Monday to Friday they will walk over at that time in front of their little fence waiting and they will bark and cry if she goes to the shops and is late and when they hear our gate open the two of them go crazy barking and jumping up and down and I will have to pick them up and take them over to her some days and they go what we call wave crazy with their arms and they know when we are going to have visitors too. We have had some stray cats in our street at night that sound like they could be savage and they fight with other cats and make all these dreadful noises that wake us up sometimes and I think they would attack our pets if they could but they sleep inside so we don’t have to worry about them getting near them.
Occy got attacked by a nasty bird one time outside though and we went inside for a few minutes and went back out to find Occy with blood on his head and a bird swooping at him and some birds can be rather nasty like that especially Magpies and have you ever had any incidents with birds ‘cause Beccy and I have both had Magpies come after us and it is not fun being chased by them and is pretty scary ‘cause they will aim for your head. Even scarier than Magpies and stray dogs and cats have been the sightings we have had in our area of Black Panthers and Komodo Dragons and I am honestly not sure if the Black Panther sightings are real or made up to scare people but there are towns that have built statues of them ‘cause so many people have seen them. We have also had Bigfoot/Yowie sightings in our state too though and do you have sightings of those in your country? I have found the best thing you can do when a pet has wind is spray the house and take it out the back for a while in case it does number 2 on the floor ‘cause that way you can get rid of the smell whether they do one or not. ()
A lot of people say Grunge died when Kurt Cobain died ‘cause Nirvana were seen as the leading band of the genre even though they were trying things outside of it and it was sad he died young and they never released another album but I always wonder what Nirvana would have been like if Kurt Cobain had lived ‘cause Dave Grohl said he wanted to sing and write his own songs and would they changed and had half the songs by Kurt Cobain and the other half by Dave Grohl or would Dave Groul left and formed the Foo Fighters still ‘cause there is no denying Dave was talented and the Foo Fighters went on to have a lot of success as a band too and I think Kurt and Dave might have clashed over it if they had continued but it is kinda surprising Dave didn’t use Nirvana name after Kurt died like some other bands have such as Alice In Chains. I think that divided some fans though ‘cause some don’t see the new Alice In Chains as the same band and there are some Van Halen fans arguing over if they should keep going without Eddie since Alex is still alive and before Eddie died there was talk of David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar doing Van Halen together for the fans performing all their songs.
It is odd the lead singers of the three of the biggest Grunge bands are dead now and I was surprised over Chris Cornell and I read somewhere he was working on another Soundgarden album before he passed away and I am curious if that will see the light of day now ‘cause Eddie Money had an album coming out before he died which was his first new album in over two decades and it got pulled when he died and then they released it later and the same thing happened with the Cranberries after their lead singer, Dolores O'Riordan died and it is surprising she’s gone too. I think New Wave was the one genre that really got left behind in the 80s ‘cause we have a lot of new AOR/Melodic Rock and Glam Metal bands now but not any that are calling themselves New Wave which is a shame ‘cause it was a good genre and one that had a really unique sound to it but I think the sound become so identifiable with the 80s to people it is why it hasn’t come back but the songs on the final album by the Cars and the three songs on the New Cars (With Todd Rundgren) albums had a very New Wave feel to them.
With the Classic radio stations I do think the people in charge believe most fans only like Pop friendly stuff and that is why they will mostly stick to playing that and they steer clear of Punk Music too with the exception of an occasional song by the Clash or The Damned like ‘Should I Stay or Should I Go’ or ‘Smash It Up’ and you don’t hear Black Flag, DOA or Dead Kennedys but some of their songs had very colourful and offensive language in them. What was seen as Punk also become more about a band’s image than the music they played which is why some Punk fans hated Good Charlotte since they saw them as a Pop Rock band masquerading as a Punk band. (lol) No. Grunge was not exactly a fun genre of music lyrically and had quite a few depressive songs and I remember a lot of dark and edgy things were very popular in the 90s but aren’t as popular as they once were now. I saw some grunge bands live in the 90s when they toured Australia at concerts and music festivals like Big Day Out and I never saw Nirvana but I did see Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Presidents, Violent Femmes and the Screaming Trees and they were all good in concert.
Ohh. You should check out those movies when you have some free time ‘cause I think you might like them and I am surprised you haven’t seen ‘That Thing You Do’ ‘cause that was very popular when it came out here and one interesting note about that film is Tom Hanks co-wrote a number of the songs and they were actually pretty good and sound like they could have been real hits in the 60s. I actually didn't know 'City of Angels' was a remake and the original was made in Germany so that's news to me but I think it was a fairly good movie and enjoyed it. However, the success of The 'Iris' has become bigger than the movie and I don't know if you are a fan of the band but I have all their albums and some people don't know they started back in the 80s as a Punk band and Robby was the lead singer on the first few albums and John (their lead singer now) only sang a few songs but then they done a complete switch with John becoming the lead singer 'cause he had a better voice and more commercial appeal and it wasn't until 1995 they become well known for their hit 'Name' but they had multiple albums out before that and some fans believed they sold out 'cause they went from Alternative Rock to Mainstream Rock but I liked both. Awww! That is sad about the kitten getting bullied a lot when she was younger but I am glad she had a very comforting and nice life with your Mum when she was older and thankfully our pets get along with each other here and there is no fighting between them and our cat, Vulpix who is our oldest pet wasn’t really sure about our Malshis (Occy and Sally) when we first got them and I think she thought they were a bit annoying ‘cause they were pretty wild back then and were often wanting to play ( ) but she has gotten used to them. Great to hear how things went during your visit with the family at the zoo. I do not think I have been visiting a zoo, since, well, "forever". However, I remember as a kid, (we really do not have too many "exotic" zoos in Norway) back in the early 90s, that me and my family visited Kristiansand Dyrepark, and I got to see lots of exciting animals, some rather scary ones as well. As one of the glasses which were supposed to hell certain predatory animals from, well getting free, had been broken/shattered, by a small crocodile. And I remember thinking, that if such a small crocodile, can do so much damage, what could mummy or daddy crocodile do, if they are having a bad day? What I was most looking forward to, was getting to see the wolves, but since they are very shy creatures, and travels for several big distances a day, I guess having that kind of animals in captive, specially enclosed in such small and tight places, later on I thought it was kind of depressing, but I guess that could be said about almost every animal, at least those how spend most of the days, going from one place, to another, and never just be in one place, all the time. However, when I were about 11-12 years old, I got to visit Langedrag with my class, and it is located in more snowy/mountain area, and they had these huge grey wolves in captive, and I got to see them up close, and that was quite a sight to behold. I also remember we stood outside the home of a red fox, and the owner or one of those who toured or guided the class, told us, that it is very rarely that the foxes would come out of hiding, because of how shy it is towards people, and then all of a sudden, while we are sitting down, and he was trying to lure it out, so we could see it. It all of a sudden "bursted" out, and gave me a "kiss" or more like a lick, how dogs greet people, not sure what it means in fox language, but it was quite funny and very memorable. Then it just ran straight back into his cave, and, well that was that days highlight for me. Speaking of the Australian animals, I remember I used to have this large animal book, which had all these beautiful and some rather scary as well, animals, and I always got kind of depressed, looking at these special ones, which either had been wiped out, or were in danger of being extinct, due to how mankind have intervened with nature, and yeah, I sure hope that times might change, and people will learn to take better care and respect the animals and nature, and how fragile they are. Yeah, having a cat or two, might be a nice way of getting rid of a bug problem, as I remember the ladycat to my mum, were quite a bugkiller, and she would go all into "berserk" mode, the moment she caught wind of one or more, flying or creeping around. However, the malecat, were more like a "coward", he just looked on, and sometimes seemed to go for hiding. Speaking of upcoming movies at the cinemas. I guess the new Bond movie is something I might be in for, hopefully it will be released later this fall, as I have always felt it were perfect set up for that time of the year. Beside that one, I am not if there are that many others, at least for now. But I will try to be a bit more updated for now on. How about you, are there any new films, you might like to see? About horror movies, and scary things, always coming back, for another round. Not sure if you have seen it, but I would very much recommend it, as it is such a well written, acted and fun horror-comedy, where Bruce Campbell surely puts in, maybe his best performance, as the old Elvis Presley, who is now located and forgotten, at some random rest home, and all of a sudden, well things start to liven up at nights, and yeah, it is just one hell of a film, and the bug scene is hilarious to watch: It is sad when a beloved pet passes away ‘cause they become a part of your life and I don’t think cats and dogs get to live long enough and some people might think that sounds silly but it just feels unfair and it would be nice if they could live longer. ( ) Yep, they become very quickly beloved family members, and I would have loved to gotten a bit more time with my former dog, but she got almost 12 years old, which I think is a lot years for a dog. No matter how kind and gentle our own pets or animals might be, it is always a potential risk that other animals is anything but, and some animals might get a trauma like reaction, if they end up getting attacked or hurt, by another dog/cat. Not that unlike how we humans would react, but sadly, for some dogs, they are tied outside (with no place to go/escape) and then to be attacked when the owner is away, by another animal, that must be very tought to handle, specially if the dog is very small or young of age. Black panthers and Komodo dragons? Wow, I am glad we do not have those kind of threats, wandering around the woods, at least for now. As there are lots of people buying illegal and dangerous animals, everyday, and I guess I do not need to warn of the risk of endangering the natural food chain, by including animals that have no natural link to the enviroment, as that is how Australia and America has sadly gotten to wipe out, or caused lots of damage to the animal kingdom, and it seems like an impossible task, of trying to make up for all those years of chaos. However, sometimes it also can do the opposite, actually some species come out much stronger, as they have to find new ways of cope with all these new and very different animals, when trying to find food or shelter. I am not too updated, or even aware of any Bigfoot/Yowie sightings in our country, as probably the closest, would be the more typical nordic/scandinavian mythical creatures, such as the Hulder, de underjordiska, trolls, tusser and draugen, which mostly comes from old folklore and books/stories. But I remember a tv-show, back in the 90s, which followed these more mythical creatures, and were trying to look more into what caused them to appear so frightening or haunting, and I guess back then, some hundred years ago, or less, more people lived outside the big cities, with far more distance from each other, and I guess some late night drinking and a bit of imagination, when wandering through the dark woods at night, trying to get back home. Well, I can see that the natural noises in a large wood, might cause some "sightings", but these days, those kind of experiences are proably less common. I was quite a Nirvana/Kurt Cobain fanatic, at least for a short time, during the early 00s. Bought into everything they put out on CD, VHS or DVD. I guess I kind of moved on, but having gone back, and re-visited a few other famous or big grunge acts, I never quite got into Pearl Jam, but Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Nirvana were probably the three, which I felt most closer to, and I am thinking of giving a few listens to my Nirvana records this summer, as I always think of their records as "summer" music, or rather fitting for that time of the year. Kurt Cobain as a solo artist, that sounds interesting. I could see or hear him do lots of different (very different to the grunge sound), maybe more within the same style as their Unplugged MTV concert style of music, not that heavy or fast, and I think it might have suited him as both a singer and songwriter. Was it Michael Stipe, how said something about that him and Kurt, were planning on writing some music together, and which were supposed to be very mellow and "quiet" stuff, but sadly that never happened. The new wave sound, I guess kind of got "burned out" very fast, as it was such an eccentric, different and new style and direction, probably the best thing which came out of the punk-rock movement, at least so I feel. It were melodic, energetic and so many great and exciting young artists came out of it, some with very fast and sadly short lived careers, others, who have enjoyed several decades of success, and is still here with us. But I guess the best ones, tended to either gotten "swalloved" up by the big music machine, and then spit out, when the hits were no longer there, or they were seen as "yesterdays news". Joe Jackson were one of those truly gifted and sharp young talents, who had some impressive records and hit songs back in the late 70s and into the early 80s, but I guess somewhere along the way, he parted ways with the more commercial business, and maybe decided to do things his way, but his first 3-4 albums, are truly great stuff, specially Night and Day (1982). It is quite interesting, why some genres has either surived, or come back from "hiding", where others sadly has just faded away, and got stuck there. We have had so many different retro-nostalgic revivals over the last 15-20 years, and maybe the new wave era, might get another go, sometime soon. One can always hope. Thank you for the videos of the Cocteau Twins and I think I do remember hearing them now and I am familiar with the Dream Pop genre too and The Sundays and The Innocence Mission's earlier albums before they become more Pop/Folk have been called that. By the way, have you heard of the band, Magnum? I think they are one of the most underrated Rock bands of all time and they started back in the 70s and are still going now and have a lot of good songs out like these below. Have a good week and I'll catch up with you again soon. Oh yeah, the radio stations usually loves to play it safe, only playing the same songs, over and over and over, and it is kind of a shame, as so many of these great bands and artists, must have at least a dozen or more, far superior songs cut out, yet all we here is the same stuff, and yeah, that kind of sucks, if one is a fan of the bands or artists, rather than those who only listens to the hits, and nothing else. I understand how some fans, might got angered by hearing or reading that certain very commercial and surely anything but "punk" rock in music or lifestyle, gets labeled that term, when they are just as innocent and melodic, as the next pop-star or band. I remember when Norwegian critics, started calling Avril Lavigne, for the young punk-princess, or something like that. And yeah, also Linkin Park, as heavy or hard metal, that did not sit too well with the fans and audience of heavy metal or hard rock. But I guess they do not care too much, those who writes such articles. I am sorry of not having gotten to hear/write back, about all the songs you have posted. Will try to do so later on, as things have gotten a bit hectic, but I will come back to those. Magnum? Were they a prog-rock act? Sounds familiar, but then again, only in name, as I have most likely never heard anything from them, yet. Anyway, as of right now, I have been listening to some Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds records, and the one I have been hearing recently, is The Good Son (1990), which I believe comes with some stunning cuts, but I feel I am not truly all "there", yet. My favorite, as of now, is still his Murder Ballads, but from The Good Son, my favorite cut, right now, has to be: By the way, finally now it seems like the summer is about to get ready for me as well, at least that is how the weather looks up, and hopefully it will stay that way, for a long while. Sunny, warm and also a bit windy, which I love, cause just hot and steamy/warm, with no wind, that is, well can get a bit too much. But at least, the sun is back, and considering how much rain and grey weather, we have had for the past few weeks, anything resembling summer weather, is very much welcome. Anyway, you take care, and be sure to have great weekend.
