Was there anybody who even thought it would bomb? Seems like it was a guarantee to be successful from the start. No one thought it was going to flat out bomb but, no one was thinking it was going to be a slam dunk either. Given the reputation of the Thor franchise and the comedic overtones - I think it's safe to say Ragnarok's critical and financial success almost came out of left field. Certainly no one thought it that it would ever compete with Justice League on any level.

Wow, I wish there had been more "Thor Ragnarok will bomb!" threads just so we could bump them. This is Guardians part 1 all over again. WOW! That's one of the saddest things I've read in a while. Yeah, Justice League is losing to Thor.

scabab justanaveragejoe - hate to narc on fellow posters but, don't know how this box office conversation got derailed in favor of a discussion of penology, trampled civil rights and unfounded accusations against other community members. Can we have a clean up on aisle four here?

Recent tracking has it at opening between $110-120 million so pretty much the same as Thor. It'll likely go up but I don't see it doing as well as Batman vs Superman. I also think if it opens anywhere near Thor numbers then it will ultimately gross less domestically because it probably won't get very good reviews so might fall apart quickly like Batman vs Superman did. Not that Marvel movies have the best legs either but it's good reviews could help it more. That's kinda what I'm saying. Let's say Thor ends up with 115 and JL gets 120. That has to be concerning for DC. Wow....how the world has changed in 2 weeks. It used to be that Thor even being close to a JL movie would be kinda embarrasing for DC. But a Thor movie beating a JL movie? That wasn't possible last week. A JL movie failing to break 100m on its opening weekend and not getting close to a Thor movie? That was not credible enough to even be fiction. Yet here we are. What was known is now turned on its head.

I figured that it would make less money than Batman vs Superman and I made a thread on that as early as March but I would never have thought it would have made less money than Wonder Woman. I don't think many did either considering tracking was considerably above.

It's going to kill for Thanksgiving (here in the states).

Can we have a clean up on aisle four here? Now I've seen everything. What happened to your catch phrase? Also you never answered my question about why you are using a Batman villains name when you hate DC? Also I hope you're not suggesting civil rights are not worthy of fighting for and racial slurs are okay? Also JL box office could be better. Gosh what a disappointment. I doubt it will cause WB to abandon all future DC movies or bankrupt DC or in the long run fulfill the sad delusional fantasies revolving around the mcu being the only comic book movies produced that for some sad reason take up many mcu fanatics thought process. So is average joe a mod here now as well? Damn is there that much modding needed?

Well, Iron Panther is gone, and scabab is trying to mod by himself, which resulted with users arguing with him, I ask Admin maybe he needed help, and bam! Maybe this can balance everything out.

Oh yeah. We DID start with two. Modding must be more dangerous than I thought. Be careful out there. I'll add that I am man enough to admit scabab does a pretty solid job despite my early apprehension. Vocal apprehension I might add.

I'm not suggesting anything other than that I don't need to know about anyone's criminal past nor do I need any lessons in racial sensitivity. I too hope that you're not implying that there anything unsavory in my pleas to the mods. I've placed a temporary moratorium on the usage of my catchphrase during these trying times for DC fans. We're all very passionate about our fandoms, and there's no need to be disrespectful in the face of a genuine crisis. A dire prognosis for Justice League is distressing news for the genre as a whole. Please note this comes from a primarily Marvel fan. As for my usage of LDM for my avatar, he's a cool character regardless of his publisher. Lord Death Man for Justice league 2, please do spread the word.

I assumed Marvel had chosen Thor Ragnarok's release date solely to vex WB and frustrate their efforts to dominate the box office with Justice League. I felt like they were sacrificing Thor to stymie the DCEU's march to glory with JL. I was wrong, Marvel believed in Thor and they thought it had as good a chance as any of their other films of standing up to the competition. Well played Marvel.
