RDJ had drinking issues and really no career at all. And since he has done nothing special either outside of the MCU. Well, actually he'd always been working no matter how bad his personal problems were and wasn't hurting for money. He just wasn't getting really high-profile stuff. And he won a Golden Globe for Sherlock Holmes too. And his Oscar Nom for Tropic Thunder. Which is likely what will happen. None of the actors in the MCU are terribly typecast and all of them have work outside of it.

But does his future seem bright if he leaves the MCU? I don't think as I'm not sure if they are even planning Sherlock 3.

I dunno, but he doesn't seem to be all that scared of what will happen afterwards. Probably because he is now making almost 100 million a film. And doesn't appear to have a spending problem like Johnny Depp. So, his life is set, no worries at all.

And the DCEU takes another punch to its non-existent balls. This is like if Downey had insisted opting out of the MCU completely after Ironman 2. That comparison is laughable. Comparing the two actors prior to their taking on these two big roles. RDJ had drinking issues and really no career at all. And since he has done nothing special either outside of the MCU.Affleck on the other hand was an Oscar winner before taking on the role. And has a bright future as an actor and director. Not sure how you are comparing the two. Would love to hear your reasoning. Also remember Feige said years ago he understood stars would leave these roles. His idea was to do what the Bond franchise did. Replace the actor and keep the story going with the same character Shows how little you know. If you can't figure out the rationale on your own, then I'm sorry for you.

Alright. Sorry, @cowherepowerforever, though you are wrong about Affleck having a better career than Downey. Let's not forget Chaplin. And that Downey had a bunch of other respectable roles before his problems ruined his career back in the day. At his worse, Downey's career is still more respectable than Affleck's.

Ben Affleck starred and directed Argo which won Oscars including Best Picture. Starred and directed The Town which got great reviews. Got an Oscar for writing Good Will Hunting. Starred in Gone Girl which was highly acclaimed. How is Robert Downey Jr at his worse better than all that?

They're never accurate. 2) Downey has WAY more acclaimed work to his name over his entire career. 3) Downey is a better actor and always been respected for his ability. Affleck has only recently become a respected talent. I recall very clearly Affleck being considered a laughing stock with audiences for most of his earlier work. Downey's career downfall was met with a sense of melancholy.

You said "At his worse, Downey's career is still more respectable than Affleck's." Rather obviously, the worst of Downey Jr's career is not more respectable than Affleck's when Affleck has directed two highly acclaimed movies, one winning many awards including Best Picture. Has actually won an Oscar for writing and has starred in other acclaimed movies such as Gone Girl.

Downey is the better talent. He was always respected for his talents. Affleck, on the other hand, has a bunch of Golden Razzies to his name and a long-standing ill-will with a lot of people from back in the day. You're only insisting Affleck is better because he's in the DCEU.

Again, the Academy Awards are worthless. It's worthless to you because it's not your career. It's not worthless to them because it involves their career which is what your comment was about. That's also completely irrelevant to what I responded to. I never said that at any point. You're the only one obsessed with the DCEU.

Starred in Gone Girl which was highly acclaimed. But has he ever been nominated for Acting Oscars? RDJ has two Noms, and 2 Golden Globes he won. Affleck got one Golden Glob Nom for Hollywoodland but nothing otherwise for acting.

Its all about studio politics and who can kiss the most ass. Want me to go down a list of unfair wins and loses? I'll do it. Its completely relevant. If you look at the histories of both men's careers, you'll clearly see Downey is the better talent.

Apparently you even think the actors are only second rate, too. Come on, Scabab doesn't deserve this. Let's stay calm here.

Downey's career didn't suffer for a string of bad movies, anyway. It was his personal problems.
