Downey's worst film can't possibly be worse than Gigli. Downey's career didn't suffer for a string of bad movies, anyway. It was his personal problems. Well, I'm just glad he fixed all of his personal problems thanks to the help of some great people like Jon Favreau and even his wife.

It wasn't like he was blacklisted, even at his worst he was still getting plenty of work mainly because he always managed to be a consummate professional on every set and always knew his lines. He never did anything like show up drunk or stuff.

And I cannot believe I'm actually having to argue about this with people. Its common knowledge in the real world that Downey is a more solid talent than Affleck ever was. So his recent successes magically blots the failures of films like Gigli, Paycheck, Daredevil, Pearl Harbor, and his other duds? Or his Golden Razzies? Or the fact that there was a huge hate-train for him around 2004-07?

formersamhmdActing wise no but this was about his career in general of which he does have 2 Oscars, 2 Golden Globes and 2 Bafta's. He was also nominated for a Bafta for Best Actor. @weirdraptor It is irrelevant because you said "at his worse". I'm not talking about comparing their overall careers. Ben Affleck's career which involves multiple Oscar, Golden Globe and Bafta win awards. As well as being a lead star in some big movies, including some acclaimed movies is obviously better than Robert Downey Jr's career at his career worse. justanaveragejoeNo but his best movies are better than Downey Jr's worse movies. One of which has a 0%.

Donwey had to do that, too, except it was harder for him. Even years after the first Ironman people were still making fun of him for his past drugs problems. Affleck only had some bad films in the past to recover from.

@weirdraptor
Again still all entirely irrelevant because this also wasn't a comparison of Ben Affleck's worse against Robert Downey Jr's worse or why their career saw a downfall.
You seem confused on what you said or what I commented on. You said this
"At his worse, Downey's career is still more respectable than Affleck's."
And no Downey Jr's career at it's worse, is not more respectable than Ben Affleck's when he's directed, wrote and starred in several highly acclaimed movies and won several top tier awards.

Wrong again. Downey's career never suffered for a string of bad movies. Affleck's did. Therefore, Affleck's worst is worse than Downey's. And the awards don't matter and do not reflect quality, so stop bringing them up. Downey's done a lot of severely highly acclaimed movies, too. You keep acting like he doesn't. Once again, your bias in favor of everything related to the DCEU is showing. I suppose you also think Henry Cavill is better than all the MCU actors that are within his age range, too.

You never said that Affleck's worse is worse than Downey Jr's worse. Your comment t also had nothing to do with whether or not Downey Jr has done highly acclaimed films or not either. You're just moving the goal posts and ignoring your own comment now that it's been pointed out as being wrong.

Come on now, no one is saying that. Both Affleck and RDJ have had their ups and downs, but neither are bad. Affleck seems better suited to writing and directing though.

You can't just say one actor is better than the other without looking at their whole careers. You're the one throwing irrelevant crap at me because you can't bear to have someone say an MCU actor is better than your precious Affleck. So tell me how bad all the 1980-90 actors MCU actors are in comparison to Cavill.

I made a comment that losing Affleck this early in the game is like the MCU losing Ironman during/immediately after Phase 1, and now everyone's hounding me.

Given how this is Affleck's 2nd full appearance, it's more like if they lost RDJ after Iron Man 2.

That's the exact comment I made that people won't leave me alone about and somehow segued into these DCEU fanatics trying to push the idea of Affleck being the superior talent on me.

Nope. Its complete relevant. You can't just say one actor is better than the other without looking at their whole careers. No it's entirely irrelevant because your post wasn't referring to their entire careers. You specifically pointed out the worst of Downey Jr's career in comparison to Affleck's career. In which case you're wrong about that. The worst of Downey Jr's career is obviously not more respectable than Ben Affleck's career with what he's achieved.

Him making bad movies doesn't really have anything to do with anything really. Your oh so precious Affleck's career is mostly made up of duds, whereas Downey's isn't. I rest my case.
