Well, Synapse is finally releasing the long awaited restoration of 'Suspiria' on blu-ray in December. Like their most recent releases, it will first only be available on a limited steelbook edition, and then later I'm sure will have a standard edition. (at least that's the way their last couple of releases have gone with 'Phenomenon' and 'Popcorn') There's a bit of conflicting information between the Synapse website and Amazon... Synapse has a date and price of Dec. 31 / $49.95 Amazon lists the same as Dec. 19 / $89.95 Surely, the Synapse price is the right one. (and don't call me Shirley) synapse-films.com/blu-ray/suspiria-40th-anniversary-limited-edition-steelbook/Anybody psyched for this release? I know I am. I usually don't splurge for the pricier releases, but since this is one of my favorite Italian horror films, I might have to. (EDIT: I just pre-ordered through Synapse)

I'd love to get it, but $50 is too much for a single movie and anyway, I've only got region B Blu-ray player. Here's hoping that Synapse's print will be licensed by some European distributor later.
It will be interesting to see how things release looks. Italian 2007 remastering gets a lot of hate for being too saturated while the more recent Italian 40th anniversary remastering seems far too muted. Based on screenshots that Synapse has released so far their Tovoli-approved remastering is certainly much closer to 2007 "oversaturated" print.

I've absolutely loved some of Synapse's previous transfers (Prom Night, Curtains), so I'm hoping this will be as good. I imagine a cheaper standard version will follow in a few months, for probably about half the price. Hopefully they'll license it out to a Euro dealer if the print turns out to be as good as I'm hoping.

I'd prefer to wait another couple of months for a "standard" edition to be released. Even $50 is too much for my blood; besides which, since I live in Canada, I always have to factor in the exchange rate.
I'm sure the restoration has made the film look more gorgeous than ever.

Thanks for the heads up. That release is a thing of beauty, however the price is, well not to my liking and since I already have paid out several times before for other DVD versions of Suspiria, I am not planning on getting this one, if it means I have to buy a new Blu-ray player and splash out 80-100 bucks for just one film, no matter how great it is and Suspiria is a great film but not my favorite of Argento so I will be on the look out for a possible cheaper standar version which also could work with european Blu-ray players.

I would love to have that Blu-ray, but yeah it’s way too expensive. Gonna have to wait for the standard edition like I did with Tenebre and Phenomena. I do own the Synapse Demons and Demons 2 Blu-ray/DVD Limited Edition Steelbooks though. They were the same price I think, but Demons is my third favorite movie, so...

I haven't bought the 'Phenomena' disc yet, but plan to. I bought 'Tenebre' not too long ago and just absolutely loved the job that Synapse did with the transfer. I think they're about as good as it gets when it comes to restoring films, or at least as good as Criterion. I just wish they would get their hands on more titles.

I would love to own this, but the price is too rich for my blood. Think I'll just stick to my Anchor Bay deluxe edition DVD for now.

Synapse always does a stellar job on their releases, and I can't see "Suspiria" not following same suit, but the price is rather steep. Especially the exchange rate on top of that.
I might just pick up the just released local (Umbrella) 4K release of the film instead. Umbrella is surprising me with some of their releases over the last year, even upcoming ("Silver Bullet").

Hey, that's good to hear 'cause I've got Umbrella's 'The Blob' (1988) on order right now. It's listed as a region B release, but several of the user reviews promise that it will work on U.S. players. I sure hope does, I'm taking their word for it. Plus, it's an awesome remake.

I know I got some of their releases which are all regions, while others like you mentioned "the blob", are only labelled B region. It might be fine though, as it was the same for "Q-The Winged Serpent", labelled region B only, but it actually worked on my multiregion player that was locked on region A at the time. Played fine. Then I tried a copy of "Don't Look Now", labelled region B only, but this one wouldn't play. So I guess it can be somewhat of a lucky dip. "The Blob" is one of the few remakes where I prefer over the original.

Not to hijack the thread, but Umbrella releases ARE region free, right? 'Cause I pre-ordered a copy of "Silver Bullet" from Amazon.ca (I'm in Canada).

Yes and no. Some are advertised all regions, while others are just region B. I don't know what their process is in deciding what region code each release gets, but it's probably your best bet to send them a general enquiry regarding what region code "Silver Bullet" is going to be. I noticed on their website it doesn't really tell you on the "Silver Bullet" page. "The Entity" is exactly same. It doesn't tell you what region, other than a dash in its spot. I thought it meant no region code. But I came across a copy in store and it was advertised region B. "The Blob" was the same too. So it's possible "Silver Bullet" might be region B too? Like I mentioned in the previous post. My copy of "Q - The Winged Serpent" according to the case is region b, but surprisingly i got it working on a region free bluray player when I had it locked on region A and it played fine. Looks like it might(?) be same story for "The Blob". But then I tried another umbrella region B bluray afterwards which wouldn't play. So you could luck out either way.

I'm expecting it to come in the mail within the next 3 weeks or so! I preordered in late Oct. I have been looking forward to this for 4 years, since Synapse first announced they had the rights.
The $50 (includes shipping in a sturdy cardboard box) price tag is very steep, but I really like the film a lot. I paid $46 I believe, for Demons, Demons 2 and Phenomena steelbooks, and I like Suspiria more than the Demons movies, so I justify to myself paying that price.
I missed out on the Tenebrae steel because I have not seen the movie and didn't want to spend so much on a blind buy. Couldn't care less about Popcorn.

I checked at Amazon.ca and it's listed as being "all regions". So hopefully that IS the case.
I know I really should look into getting an all-region disc player. A number of people have made that recommendation.

How about the Dakota Johnson's version? That will be awesome. I can't wait. I think it should release next year.
