Get Out is definitely #1 for me. It's just a bad movie. Spideman: Homecoming . Don't get me wrong, I liked it a lot (7/10 ) but I don't think it was amazing, which a lot of people and reviews made it out to be. It Comes At Night Logan Lucky

I woulnt call it bad but it is indeed overrated. I just thought its an OK film. Not sure why it blew up so big for.

Honestly a lot of the Oscar contenders haven't impressed me much thus far. Lady Bird has been getting stellar reviews and same with Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri but the trailers for both haven't impressed or wowed me at all. I haven't seen either yet so I'll reserve judgement until I have.

Get Out Baby Driver Wonder Woman I like the numbers one and three, but I can agree. The people who really praise them acts like neither genre existed before them. They both became political causes. I really disliked Baby Driver.

By all means it was well-made – the acting was good, it was gritty, realistic, and atmospheric – but nothing happens. It's boring.

In order to reply, I looked up the highest-grossing movies of the year. There are some bad movies on the list, but they didn't gross as much as expected. That and the bad reviews mean that I can't really call them "overrated."
My only pick would have to be BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. I didn't dislike it, but I also didn't like it. It certainly doesn't deserve to be #1 on the list.

I actually just seen get out. I woulnt call it bad but it is indeed overrated. I just thought its an OK film. Not sure why it blew up so big for. For a lot of movie critics these days the political message is more important than anything else, so if the film checks off the boxes for various SJW causes then it will get praise. But who knows what money was given in marketing or even if that was needed to ensure it getting a propaganda boost. A horror movie that is advertised for its "important" message on race is not exactly traditional or audience-friendly.

But who knows what money was given in marketing or even if that was needed to ensure it getting a propaganda boost. Riiight... It had nothing to do with the great performances and directing. It also had nothing to do with a script with an intriguing mystery, hilarious dialogue and many details that cleverly pay off later.

So what accounts for the hyperbole? SJW enthusiasm?

1) The scene where Catherine Keener hypnotizes Daniel Kaluuya alone is an example on how to make a movie. 2) I was referring to the worlwide consensus, which consists of more people than the one in this thread. 3) I thought Social Justice Warrior meant "Misogynist who asks for equality." Boy, it's hard to keep up with the terms people constantly come up to justify why other people react to movies differently. God forbid people judge a movie objectively. God forbid we admit that if our opinion is the minority then maybe our point of view isn't the right one.

Wonder Woman was good....but I can't see anything that elevates it over any other decent comic book movie. Of all the films I've seen based on comics this year (7 I think), it's not near the top

based on the 2017 movies i have seen the following are definitely the most overrated as they are average-ish at best... -It (this is boring. i could not finish it which makes it the worst movie listed here and the most overrated. prior to seeing this i thought it had potential to be better than most horror movies given my impressions of it etc, but i misread this one.) -Get Out -Logan -Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (out of the four movies i listed in this topic this would probably be my favorite. still, not worth re-watching which means it's Thumbs Down status for me. basically it's one of those movies that was enjoyable enough for a viewing but since i ultimately judge movies based on whether they are movies ill re-watch from time-to-time or not then it's ultimately a Thumbs Down.) Logan is watchable but forgettable. it's pretty much the best X-Men movie but that's not saying much since they are all forgettable. basically that movie is more of a 6.x/10 range tops for the average instead of it's 8.2/10 with over 410,000+ votes which is a joke as very few movies are worthy of a 8.0+ average in my mind. hell, not many are even worthy of a 7.x/10 average. hell, i would say the movies i listed above are definitely not worthy of having anything higher than a 6.x/10 average. also, i see some listing Baby Driver and while i would agree it's overrated given it's average rating of 7.8/10, i still like the movie overall. it does loose steam later into the movie though. ill see how it is on a re-watch at some point. it seems IMDb's standards are getting lower as it almost seems like it's getting to easy for movies to crack 7.x/10 for the average as normally i see IMDb average ratings like this... 4.x/10 and lower = crap 5.x/10 = generally negative opinions 6.x/10 = mixed-opinions 7.x/10 = generally positive opinions high 7's and higher = the more praise movies but it seems some movies get into the 7.x/10 ranges too easily. p.s. but as a general guideline... super hero movies tend to have really inflated scores and none of them are THAT good in comparison to ALL movies as that's how movies should be judged based on how they rank amongst everything you have seen. with this said... i realize some people genuinely do like some of these a lot and for those people it's fine if you want to rate them really high but, at least for me, the general super hero thing lost most of it's appeal as i got older. i still like some super hero movies but there are not many worth re-watching. hell, my favorite super hero movie is Man of Steel and while it's within my Top 248 movies, which sounds like i praise it given that info, i still only scored it a 6-6.5/10 which makes it a bit outside of My Favorite Movies (which contain 196 movies). sostie I don't know about you but most comic book/super hero movies are not worth re-watching but that's one of the ones that are worth re-watching. so if you want to adjust it's score based on this, then if anything, i would say it's underrated as i am sure there is some super hero movies on IMDb with higher average scores that should be lower than Wonder Woman if you ask me. plus, another reason that makes that better than the typical super hero movie is that you just don't see quality female lead super hero movies and it's pretty safe to say Wonder Woman is the most known female super hero. p.s. for the record... i gave Wonder Woman a 6/10 (a mild Thumbs Up). I have seen it once so far but i expect it to hold up on a re-watch. prior to seeing it i was hoping for a 6-6.5/10 but that did not happen. still, it scored about where i expected it to though as i assumed it was likely not going below a 6/10, but thought it had potential for a 6-6.5/10 if done right.

Baby Drivr for sure, all style and flashy gimmicks over actual story. They should have gone with Jamie Foxx at the end.
