Dear delusional fan boy.
You get an A for effort and Merry Christmas but until Marvel has a female superhero movie out your thread means jackshit, diddly squat, muffins in the oven and when is this Captain Marvel coming out? The year 2019 or 2029?
Are we going to see it in our lifetimes or is the movie that keeps getting pushed back? It has been pushed back already and history shows it will be pushed back again for Iron Man 4, Captain America 4 and Thor 4. I Hate to crap all over your charade but DC already have Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 2, Batgirl, Harley Quinn and Gotham City Sirens are coming. DC has 2 female fronted TV shows and LGBTI representation in Supergirl, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. A Harley Quinn TV show is next.
What does Marvel have? Jackshit.
If you want to steal the credit first you need a movie kid and I ain’t seeing anything that makes me believe Captain Marvel will come out before Iron Man 4 or Thor 4. Fuck, who are we kidding? Iron Man 5, Thor 5 and Captain America 4 and 5. Marvel will throw in a remake Howard the Duck before they ever put a female superhero movie out. Watch and see.
Replying to this particular post may not be completely relevant, but just to address what seems to be a very pro-DC, anti-Marvel view on the subject...
Both DC and Marvel could be accused of misogyny and homophobia over the years. It's not just Marvel. You take all the various incarnations here - DCEU, DC Films, DC Comics, Marvel Films, MCU, Marvel comics, X-Verse...pick them apart or go in depth and you can't really say one is worse than another in it's treatment of various cultures, sexualities, races etc. But Marvel is certainly not the big villain in this story, as DC is not the hero.
Sure Wonder Woman was a pioneering female character but after the war for many years she became something completely different, less independant and strong, and seemed to spend as much time doing household chores and crying over boyfriends than saving the world. It took a high profile femenist to publicly criticise DC for them to get back on track with the character
Look how DC handled HIV storylines compared to Marvel. The Northstar story in particular is handled well by Marvel. Meanwhile DC have a cliched camp character Extraño (who name is translated as "strange") is infected with HIV by an Aids-Vampire called Hemo-Goblin, who only infects people of colour!
Marvel had the first openly gay and bi-sexual characters.
The X-Men were embraced by both the gay community and civil rights movement in the 60's as it was seen (and to an extent intended) to reflect their struggles.
I'm pretty sure Marvel have had more different female led comic books over the years than DC.
And let's not forget DC have been accused of the worst cases of "fridging" in comic books.
Yes it seems that Marvel may have dropped the ball with female characters on screen. One movie and 2 TV series. And only the TV series under MCU. But one problem MCU have is that they do not own all their characters. The number of female led films they can make is limited. And yes maybe they could have made a Black Widow film or a Captain Marvel earlier. But they are all potentially a much bigger risk than a Wonder Woman film
And whilst Marvel have had control over some of their characters since '98 , DC have had control of all of theirs since '89. So Marvel took 7 years to do a female led film (and 10 to hire a female director). DC took 15 years with Catwoman. But what is genuinly shocking/surprising is that it took over 25 years for Wonder Woman to have her first film (and DC it's first female director). Ignoring DC-Fans historical revisionism, Wonder Woman is a major "brand" full stop. Regardless of gender. She sat on the bench for a quarter of a century under DC's watch, whilst they continued to churn out male led films mostly starring the same (safe) two characters (meanwhile X-Men franchise, populated heavily with strong positive female characters are being made).
Also isn't representation as important as inclusion. I can't think of any examples where MCU have played their female characters in any negative way. But look at Suicide Squad - Harley Quinn is constantly pining over an abusive boyfriend, when the camera can stop focussing on her ass, Katana does little but mourn her husband, Amanda Waller was a reprehensible piece of shit, and Enchantress...Christ I have no idea what to make of her.
Why are you casting doubt on Captain Marvel being released. There is not a long running history of it being delayed as far as I now. It's casted, it's got a script, it has directors and it has a shooting date. Yet you are confident we will get Wonder Woman 2 (well, that's a no brainer I guess), but also Gotham City Sirens, Batgirl and Harley Quinn, none of which I have heard even have scripts.
As for Marvel's so called "strightwashing" I addressed that elsewhere following your and DebLovesBeccy posting of a link on the subject
A show like Supergirl has time to focus on a lesbian relationship and explore chracters sexuality. A film doesn't really have time to do that for a supporting character...it's not straightwashing, it's efficient storytelling. I don'y watch Supergirl, but I was/am an avid Buffy fan. In that it gave space and time to develop Willow and Tara's relationship, and that is what made it so well grounded, written and moving. It wasn't shoehorned in or rushed. Such things can seem as such in the space of a 2 hour film.
Back the the intitial subject of the thread. I don't agree with OPs initial post, but really, why some do not question why DC took so long to make Wonder Woman, regardless of what other film studios have, or have not, done since, totally baffles me.
(these may come across a bit scattershot..trying to do it in spare moment at work)
