hi224 No worries about that! By the way, would you recommend that movie ( Ghost Story, I believe)? I’ve heard all kinds of mixed reactions to it. @forceghostackbar Well, y’know, there were a few mythology episodes in Season 1 I really liked (the pilot, “Deep Throat,” especially “E.B.E.”), but those tend to be fairly self-contained stories anyway. I just kinda-sorta dislike the whole notion of a mass continuity in general… (Boy, did you see those reactions when I wrote that I disliked shared universes! ) Lebowskidoo 🦞 Where do these posters come from? They’re great!

gee it’s been nigh unto a year and still wanting to see the Freaks inspired X-Files ! And I still have yet to see the Christmas Carol-inspired one, so… Wow, we get things done quickly, huh? Speaking of which, how’s The Dead Horse of Sheila coming? I haven’t seen an X-Files in ages. Have to rectify that one of these days…

They were showing the X-Files on one of the re-run channels but didn't see the two I wanted to catch . Never cared much for the show. Have not located Sheila yet either but at least now am aware of it so am on the lookout. Assorted TV Christmas episodes are going to be on either MeTV or Antenna tv …. a good one is the Christmas Gunsmoke with Jack Elam … always fun to watch … not total villain in this one and not total sweet and lovable either. Jody Foster is just a little girl in it... it's that old ! Nalkarj

Hi. Here's a link to narrated ghost stories by M.R. James. Hope you enjoy listening to them. There are also BBC series on his stories, but I think it's scarier to listen and picture things in your own mind rather than see them in front of you.

I prefer contemporary Christmas ghost stories like Ghost (1990) , and there were a couple of more recent ones that I enjoyed very much , but I can't remember the names of them ? Hallmark also like to make them , and if anyone has a list , I'm very interested to know!
Two recent ones that aren't specifically Christmas Ghost stories , but have a Christmas scene and a ghostly presence are The Bookshop (2017) , about a heartbroken widow moving to a quaint British seaside village and opening a bookshop , only to find the place veiled in dark mystery and herself a promising victim to local vilification . And Sometimes Always Never (2019) , a lowkey British Independent movie about a generational family struggling with the loss of a son , who after a difference disappeared for good . (heartwarming though).

Related story, while we’re on the subject:
There’s a wonderful living history museum near where I grew up that does Christmas festivities at night (usually just after Christmas Day itself, if I remember correctly). It’s a whole “town” of genuine old buildings, brought there from all over the area, and you sing Christmas carols in the old church on the property, and you drink hot chocolate and eat cookies at the inn, so on and so forth.
It was always bitterly cold when we went, but it was always a great feeling—as if you’re walking into Fezziwig’s Christmas party. Many of the buildings are rumored to be haunted, though that’s to be expected when they date back to the 1700s, and there’s this little old graveyard on the property too, which seems like it’s far away from the church and the “town” lights, even though it’s maybe only a 5 mins. walk.
I don’t think it’s a real graveyard, but standing there, feeling like you’re back in the 1800s, with no one around (no one except my family ever walked out there on those cold nights)—not only is it like a ghost story, but also you realize how the spooky approaches the sublime.
